SO I am new to linux..just downloaded ubuntu tonight. I am trying to learn how to downloard programs(so far aim and flash player). However I am having trouble. I am loving linux so far but just want to be able to download programs and then continue learning more things(I really want to learn how to configure complz with the different plugins.)

So any help with this stuff would be greatly appreciated.

Try AmaroK. Or Rhythmbox (I think that's what Gnome users like). You can't buy your music through them, but they are very nice tools. Better than iTunes in many respects.

Actually, Rhythmbox (I hate typing that word) has support for the Magnatune Music Store. Haven't purchased anything from there, so I can't report as to the range of music available, but it's there.

You can use GTKpod in Ubuntu. Rythmbox also has the ability to connect to iPod and share files with it (assuming they weren't bought from the iTunes store; they have DRM which prevents usage in Linux). You just have to have the plugin enabled (go to Edit>Plugins). I believe Amarok also has this ability.
