I'd like to know how to change the initial splash screen showing Ubuntu's progress as it boots up. I'm running Feisty.

I can't really find any boot screens out there, but I'm looking for something dark that doesn't use the Ubuntu title or logo; preferably something simple and generic, perhaps even a verbose mode boot screen with a progress bar. I've already looked at gnome-look.org with no luck.

You can always `apt-get remove usplash` to remove any kind of bootsplash. Otherwise, look for usplash themes on Google. I've never wanted to change since I reboot so little.

there a a numer of guide to do this online. I tried one but it didnt work :(

maybe you need to use a .png image and I used a .jpg

basically the new splash needs to be put into /usr/share/pixmap and you need to change gnome-sessions splash screen key to the new file
