    Is it Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10?
Compiz should be already there...you can enable the effects in System --> Preferences --> Appearance

To manage themes, you can install "emerald" by clicking: System --> Administration --> Synaptics package manager

To be able to configure specific effects you can install "compizconfig-settings-manager"

in compizconfig, go in "advanced search" then "actions", you will see the shortcuts for the effects

example: try Windows key + Tab

no, its the one where you get like a full cube of screens..... is there like a list of diffrent shortcuts somewhere, cause win+e wasnt on any on the key lists in the config, but worked......

You could also try installing ccsm (CompizConfig Settings Manager) from the repositories using Synaptic Package Manager. It is a GUI interface and you can do tons of things with it !! You could also check out this guy at http://forlong.blogage.de/ scroll down the page quite a ways and he gives you the way to activate the cube and a lot of other cool settings.

You can also press Ctrl + Alt and then use your mouse to rotate that cube. If you've transparency set up, it looks quite cool. IMHO it's a gimmick. But then again this is on teh EEE, and it has a weeker card.

Also, the wiki's sort of helpful. http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/

And teh beryl FAQ too. http://www.beryl-project.org/faq.php
