i was looking for some sort of benchmark tool to compare the raid 0 setup on my 1720 and ran into iozone. i imagine once you figure out all the capabilities, or even some, it can become pretty useful. so far i've only played around with read/write stuff but i like how the output is ready for surface graphs in excel. anyone else running linux/iozone on a 1720?

Looks like a great app. Unfortunately, it's not in the Arch repos (yet
). It might be nice to do a comparison between iozone and phoronix-test-suite for disk benchmarking.
What do you think of iozone's accuracy, and have you done any comparisons between the different filesystems? -
so far i've only run iozone and bonnie++ on my raid 0 for the 2 drives in my ubuntu 1720. the results between the 2 for read/write & re-read/re-write are comparative but iozone seems to be more accurate. well, from visual comparison. bonnie++ is just a line of text whereas iozone gives multiple lines to create graphs all in one shot. i've been comparing them to a friend's raid 1/0 and single drive set ups (windows/ubuntu/fedora) and just from raid 0, in regards to read/write stuff, the performance is definitely noticeable/benchmarkable. we get around the same results depending on what we're looking at, more so when hitting the larger file sizes. benchmarking can get complicated with iozone with all the options but there's useful documentation out there. i'd really like to find another 1720 to compare with that's only using raid 1. or just 1 drive. or even raid 0 just to compare with mine. i'll have to check out phoronix. they even have a nice little .deb package ready. i like how ubuntu makes me lazy

forgot to mention i'm going to get mondo working with imaging/restoring raid on another raid set up first. mondo works great with single disks and even lvm but want to test it out on something first for raid. after that, i was going to look into raid with ext3 indexing enabled and at some point reiserfs.
