So, anyone test out any laptops with Linux?

    I'm looking at:

    HP DV7

    Dell Studio 17

Asus ???? So many models but most are 1366 x 768.... How is this resolution? I don't know if I should go with one higher. I watch movies and like the option of 3D applications.

What wifi cards are in these laptops? I think there's an Intel in the Asus.

I use VLC, Kaffeine, OpenOffice... I want to try Blender, video editing software... Kino...

In Windows, I would like to use the Windows-base programs of the above... VLC, Movie Maker, MS Office etc. etc.

Most people are saying to go with the Asus. I think the hardware in these would be okay for installing Linux. The only question mark is the 1366 x 768 resolution, maybe, and the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4xxx cards (4560, 4670 etc.). I didn't really want an ATI card but they are relatively powerful and the power consumption isn't bad. The Nvidia GT 220M cards in many of the Asus laptops would be easier to work with in Linux, though? I'm not sure I should make the card be the deciding factor, though.

    I want these specs:
    P8400 cpu or better
    discrete video card (mentioned above)
    eSATA
resolution? I don't know for sure....was hoping for a higher one but do I need it?

Any comments? The above can be applicable to Windows but I was wondering what hardware are in the laptops above. They don't mention the specifics of the wifi card usually. I think the rest is easy to deal with except for the ATI card possibly being a bit more difficult to use the drivers.

    Recommendations and/or advice?
