Hi all, I'm seriously considering switching back to windows in my netbook because, no matter what linux distro (I think I'm using that word correctly) I use, neither suspend nor hibernate work correctly on my netbook. I have a Toshiba NB305, and I have tried Mint, Ubuntu, and am currently using Jolly. Not only do those functions not work, but on Ubuntu, my netbook took literally 10 mins to start up (I timed it).
I've searched for a fix, and tried one but it didn't work. Idk whether it was due to my severe lack of linux knowledge or the fix just didn't work in general. If anyone could give me step-by-step, idiot-proof instructions on how to fix this problem I'd be so grateful! I really do like linux and would rather not have to pay for a windows installation cd.
    Thanks!

Toshiba has incredibly broken BIOS/ACPI implementations. It's not surprising that you are having trouble. To suspend, try using the s2ram command from the uswsusp package.

You can track down startup delays with Bootchart

    That's unfortunate :(
I went into my config.d folder to attempt a fix via the info here: [ubuntu] uswsusp s2ram works, how can I use it for the suspend option in the menu ? - Ubuntu Forums
but my config.d folder didn't have any files in it, and Jolly OS wouldn't let me create a file in it. Once again, I'm a total linux-idiot, so I feel like this is something that I'm doing wrong...So what am I doing wrong and how should I do it correctly?
    Thanks!

Does s2ram actually work for you? You can try it with the command: sudo s2ram -f
