i've been reading issues about the m1330 using the hdmi port in ubuntu, specifically with sound. so when i bought one of those $800 46" lcd 1080p DP46848's from walmart last week i tried connecting my m1330 via hdmi to it. on the m1330 i left the sound settings alone but i already verified the speakers and internal mic worked. in order to get the picture to the lcd screen and sound to the tv's speakers i did the following.
**install 2 packages
$ sudo aptitude install nvidia-settings libasound2-plugins
**detect tv
$ sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf-backup
$ sudo nvidia-settings (you must use sudo or root to save changes)
**click on - x server display configuration
**click on - detect display
you should now see your tv in the 'layout' window next to your other monitor
**select the monitor window for the tv
**click on the configure button (i selected twinview)
**choose resolution and whatnot (relevant to your specific setup/cabling)
**click on apply
you should now see output from the m1330 on the tv but you may not have sound
**click on save to x configuration file & select merge
$ sudo shutdown -r now
you should see the nvidia logo on the m1330 and tv during bootup. once you log in and play a movie or whatever, you should have sound from the tv as well. some people have reported fuzzy text or images but i set everything to 1080p and text, images look pretty sharp coming out of the m1330. if you have quality issues, your config may need to be tweaked. i.e., if your tv only has dvi, component or is only capable of 720p or 1080i. if you fubar your xorg, you can fix it through a tty console or play around with nvidia-settings,
ctrl + alt + f1
login
$ sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf-backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf
reboot or restart x
by the way, $800 for the DP46848 was well worth it if anyone is making a decision on picking one up. the only cheap-ish one i saw was a 46" sharp for $899 coming out on black friday.
