Sure, there's wubi, which installs Ubuntu within XP and can be run from XP without restarting. The program is even recommended by the Ubuntu team, and I believe it can be downloaded from download.com

    How does that help me?
I'm looking for an app like v lite that I can use in XP to burn a modified Ubuntu/openSUSE disc.
EDIT: I've heard of Wubi, & its interesting. Does it allow me to choose to run linux or windows or does it have to be started after windows boots completely?

Sorry man, I misunderstood your post. Actually, it can't help you. AFAIK, you can't really modify a distribution until installation or you select an optimized distro. And Wubi is pretty much Ubuntu for Windows, meaning it will install and run Ubuntu within XP. Also, I do not know whether or not you can customize the distribution, or if there are alternatives.

if i understand correctly, you want to customize ubuntu for some system from within windows or within linux if it can't be done in windows. if so, google kickstart or re-spin. or magic iso if you're linux challenged. i found it easier to just install mondo rescue on all my linux boxes, back up and compress the entire drive, the save the iso or burn it as a bootable dvd. all my systems are different so it doesn't do me any good to build one custom distro for all my systems. however, after i customized my systems and created the bootable images the way i like them, i never have to worry about a hard drive failure for any of my laptops. i can just swap out the the drive, pop in the dvd, and i'm set. the whole process takes about 10 minutes.

I think you can use the Ubuntu Alternate Install CD to customize the default image, much like you can with nLite/vLite. There is an "OEM install" option, which would allow for the modification of these things.

There are some tools like Remastersys that will let you create an ISO of your system once it is customized.
