doesn't work out of the box, and without a connection to the internet, i don't see how to get anything working. most of the fixes involve downloading a package from the internet. i can move files to the computer and thats about it until the internet works.

its just a pci wmp54g card. pretty standard and used to work out of the box on older linux versions.

    thanks!

by the way: its the earlier broadcom version, that is confirmed not working out of the box. the later ralink version does work, but i have the broadcom one ;)

Try using a Linux LiveCD on a wired connection somewhere and download ndiswrapper. Which distro do you use? If it is Ubuntu or debian-based, there are live CDs which is from one of the Debian-based distros. Install ndiswrapper on it and then burn it onto CD and install it on your computer. Best option is to temporarily use a wired connection for your computer and install ndiswrapper on it.

    Check this page, though:

Try an Ubuntu or Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron liveCD and see if it can connect 'out of the box.'

The version of your wireless card is probably 'version 4.5?' I would enter that in search boxes as well as the card name and see what you find.

My wi-fi worked when I connected up to the internet through Ethernet, installed the first 2 updates(below 10), then I went to Hardware Drivers, and the drivers were just there waiting for me to install.
My wi-fi is broadcom, but I don't think it's the same as yours. It's:
    Broadcom B43 wireless driver.
Yeah- I don't think we have the same, but this method might work for you :).

Have you checked the restricted driver manager like Emor said? Older distributions needed the ndiswrapper, but if your card is 43xx based (most are) then there's an open-source-ish driver that's working as of late.
