there is a new realtek 8192se driver that works with my thinkpad t500 with the "thinkpad bgn". I am using jaunty x64. In June of last year, lenovo switched from using atheros to a realtek card in the non-intel wlan option, and until now, I haven't been able to get a satisfactory wireless performance.

this new driver, released march 11, works much better than my old one which dropped the connection every 5 minutes (no joke).

    here is the url
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...peID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true#RTL8192SE

in case anyone is unfamiliar with make, here are the steps I used to install

    unzip and put in desktop
    open terminal -
    cd Desktop
cd "enter name of the driver folder rtl8192se..."
sudo su "now enter sudo password"
    make
    make install

    hope this helps

    Edit update:
After half a week of extensive use (finals week), I've concluded that although it is much better than what I was using before, it is still much worse than my windows 7 driver.
It still drops the connection once in a while, maybe every 30 mins on average depending on my campus location(windows driver never drops connection). The drops seem to occur bunched together though, so I can usually get around 1 hr of uninterrupted browsing before dropping a couple of times in quick succession.
I even did a recommended fix of deleting lines with "denable_lps" in the makefiles but I still get drops. Hopefully a newer driver can improve on this, but I am reasonably happy with this driver considering past performance.

Hey thanks for sharing about the thinkpad B/G/N. I will be getting a T500 with the realtek wifi card. I see from your post that it's not too good with linux. How is it with Win 7 or XP?

I started a thread asking about it's performance here

But I only got one response from an actual user. I was just wanting to know/hear from an actual user of the wifi card who could comment. Sorry to sort of go off topic, though it is related.

    Cheers!
