    Dear all,
I bought my first laptop a few days back and I am happy to be in this forum.

    Dell Inspiron 1525
    1.83 Ghz Core 2 Duo
    2 Gb RAM
    160 GB hard disk
    Marvell Yukon 88E8040 ethernet controller

I installed Fedora Core 8 32 bit version along with the Vista that came preinstalled with the laptop. FC8 detected all my hardware which was not the case with Fc7 that I tried before. FC7 didn't detect my ethernet controller Marvell Yukon 88E8040.

I am thinking of installing opensuse 10.3 because I would like to try it out. I could go in for a triple boot with Vista and FC8 or I could remove FC8 completely.

If anyone else has opensuse10.3 on a Dell Inspiron 1525 please share your experiences. My main worry is about the ethernet card which needs the driver sky2. I don't have access to a wireless network.

    Thanks in advance.

Suse 11.0 will be released early next month, use that.

Thanks. I have been reading on opensuse 10.3. It uses the 10.6.22 kernel while FC8 uses the 10.6.23 kernel that has sky2 driver. The 10.6.21 kernel with FC7 didn't have sky2 driver at all. The 10.6.22 kernel seems to have sky2 but there have been some reports about it being buggy at least on some google searches.

Guess I'll go with FC8 for now.

Suse 11.0 uses 2.6.25 kernel, and it seems that has sky2 drivers.
