I am currently trying to install arch linux.
Everything goes fine till I get to "select packages"
It does the little search and pops up with the error...
"Pacman preparation failed! Check /dev/tty7 for errors."
When I select source I choose the option "FTP/HTTP", and it finds my ethernet cord, and everything goes smooth.
At the next step where it asks you to choose a mirror (Where it mentions about the 50kb/s throttle ect.) I choose one and it seems to work.
I keep getting that error though when I click "select packages". (I have tried different mirrors, and still get the same error.)

When I try to select the chose "CD-ROM or OTHER SOURCE" in the "select source" it says.
"Packages included on this disk have been mounted to /src/core/pkg. If you wish to use your own packages from another source, manually mount them there."
When I press enter it immediately goes the the error message.
    "Package directory /src/core/pkg is missing!"

On the arch linux download page I choose a torrent download of the "FTP ISO" (and i686).

When googling around to see if anyone else has the /dev/tty7 error problem the only link I came across was this.

    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65707

No one answers his question, but he edits saying he solved the problem, and he thinks his CD was incorrectly burnt.
So I proceeded to download a new iso (the same as before), and burn it onto a CD, and still get all the same errors.

I am kinda confused, and would appreciate any help.
    Thanks

You can't select "CD-ROM" as a source because you downloaded the FTP install iso. If you want to install Arch from the LiveCD download the main iso.

Did you follow the beginner's guide up until the error? Set up your partitions correctly, etc?

Right before you start choosing packages maybe try switching to another console and confirming your DHCP is set up and working properly.
