    running linux for the 1st time

    hi so I just uinstalled linux on an old compaq persario 1700. It works off of the ubuntu cd fine, but when I finished installing off of the cd and try to bood off of the hd, nothing happens. It gets past the part that says startig up and loading and then the screen just goes black. any suggestions?

    Do you see Ubuntu splash when loading? Is it after that?
