hi i bought a E1505 recently and im considering dual booting it with ubuntu 6.06, just wondering whether or not anyone on here has any experience running linux on one of these if so how easy is it to install everything (wifi mainly ubuntu comes with a app for just about everything i use on here anyway preinstalled) and whether or not it uses both cores?

maybe comparing oranges to grapefruits here, but i installed ubuntu on my dell desktop a while back (2.8 ghz p4 w/HT) and it always worked fine. HOWEVER i really never use ubuntu anymore and the partition is just taking up hard drive space, so i'd advise against it unless you're really into linux. can't really comment on ubuntu wifi, sorry.

I installed ubuntu 6.06 on mine. Everything works out of the box, including the intel wireless card (not sure if before or after the kernel update), except the 3d acceleration. After getting the drivers for the ati card, got the resolution to 1680x1050, and everything works like charm now.

I'm going to move this to our linux forum. I think they can probably help you out more than most of us over here can.

Dont worry Linux will work very well on your laptop specially y if your have a Intel video card on your laptop. Ubuntu is a great distro for automatic hardware detection. Maybe ubuntu wont use both cores but its easy to make use of both.
Just install a linux kernel with smp support from ubuntu repositories.

dvd playack wasn't the best on the e1505 (i had one and sold it)
i had to get a new lappy with nvidia drivers, cause the ati ones aren't mature yet.
