I've got a Canon LiDE 6-something scanner. It works nicely enough under Windows, but Ubuntu 8.10 doesn't recognize it at all.
So I'm wondering, what's the best-supported (and cheap!) scanner that works well under Linux?
update: it's a CanoScan LiDE 600F

That way, you remain in Ubuntu (*cough**cough*) but can boot up Windows 'inside' and use your scanner. Otherwise, you need a Windows partition or a dedicated Windows machine when needing your scanner. -

Yes, your model doesn't appear to be supported.

The LIDE series up to 60 is supported and after that, Canon decided to give up on Linux support. Some of the PIXMA series of printers still has some support, though. But, for scanners, forget it.
I mostly look at HP, Brother or Samsung for printers and the all-in-ones often have a scanner so they are often supported if one of those brands, especially HP which has the HPLIP driver (and/or hpijs/hplip). -

Epson V500 works like a champ in Linux btw. 64 bit drivers for it also. -
I have a brother MFC and everything works. So my vote goes to Brother MFC if you looking to replace your scanner.
scanner doesn't work
