    Deal All,

My laptop's native resolution is 1920x1080. When I shifted from windows 7 to ubuntu 11.04, everything is too small to look comfortable.

Change dpi in "appearance" only changes the font size of ubuntu system not those "minimize", " maximize", or "close" button. Also this does not apply to other programs like firefox, chrome or rstudio, etc.
I can manage o change the webpage text inside those, but button, tab size, tab font and search bar, etc. still remain small.

Therefore, in ubuntu whether there is a way that I can change global settings for everything.
In windows 7, change the text size in control panel changes everything, making everything bigger under 1920x1080. I so far didn't find anything like that in ubuntu.

Could anyone please suggest a way?

    Thank you vey much

This may get more replies in the Linux subforum, as it's an Ubuntu-specific issue that people more familiar with Linux will be able to answer--I have moved your thread there, but feel free to report the post and ask for it moved back if you wish.

Go to your Appearance prefs under Fonts then choose Details at the bottom right. Change your DPI settings to higher than 96. ;)

This is what I did. But this only changes the Ubuntu system. But not software programs. Like in chrome, those tab still very small. Other program I use, like Rstudio, the menu, or font size of software itself still small.

Those sizes are dependent on your GTK theme, or your KDE theme, depending on what toolkit the app uses. You can set the fonts in your theme to be larger or smaller. Those settings combine with the DPI setting for the actual text size. Chrome uses its own themes, or it can use the GTK theme. You can do some customization with gnome-color-chooser beyond what is preset in the theme. DPI settings can often require an application restart to take effect for firefox etc...
