    sound card drivers

    I just installed mandrake on my laptop. I've never used linux before, so i'm kind of confused. Does anyone know where i can find drivers for my sound card? it is a conexant ac-link.

    Mandrake? Are you sure you're using Mandrake? Because Mandrake is no longer supported/updated. That is, Mandrake has changed its name to Mandriva. So, if you actually installed Mandrake, my first suggestion is to reinstall it with either the newest version (Mandriva), or try the newest version of a different distro, such as Ubuntu.

    You will need to install and configure alsa in order to get sound working properly in Linux. If your laptop is an HP DV6000 then the correct sound driver for you would be the hda_intel driver.

    BTW.. If you are using an HP DV 6000, a lot of folks putting linux on it have had problems with getting it running. At the minimum you want to make sure you have the latest BIOS on your laptop, which supposedly fixes some issues.

    sorry - yes it is mandriva.
    The intel driver worked - thank you.
    Everything else seems to be working fine.
