Hello,
i have installed 8.10 and it detected almost everything but my ethernet card does not work
as as per the vendor its:
Intel 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection (Boazman), PHY, PCIe x
any advise how to get it working ?
Thank you

Have you tried looking for the drivers online, then burning them to a CD(under the assumption you have a spare PC available[the one you posted from
], and a blank CD), and then installing them on Ubuntu. IDK if this would work, but it's worth a shot...

That would not work, that's now how Linux works.
And all Intel ethernet cards should work fine by default. Are you sure the card isn't dead? Does it work when you're using a LiveCD? How about under Windows? -
well card works on windows and it shows on lspci command
i think its because of the known issues listed at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/beta :

I think if you update now it should function afterwards.

These cards had driver problems before 2.6.27-RC6 that made them at risk to becoming bricked, so they were blacklisted. If you have the background with the weird psychedelic poca-dots, you need to update.
If you are updated and it still doesn't work, use the command "modprobe e1000e" to load the driver, and use the command "ifconfig eth0 up" to bring the interface up.
You can also check your kernel version with the command "uname -r". If you have 2.6.27-7-* you are good. -
update worked thanks

Like Charr said, there was a problem with the 2.6.27 development series, that could destroy the NIC.
That's exactly the reason why I'd strongly recommend to use stable distributions, and NEVER a "beta" Ubuntu version.
They tend to use heavily untested and unstable software what can be risky for data and hardware.
Edit: the "NEVER" means: if you don't know what you do
Real betatesters may of course use it, because they are aware of the risk. -
non-beta doesn't load anything not even the vga card
