i've got the download of Ubuntu 8.10 in progress, i'm pretty excited to try it out from my understanding i can boot and run Ubuntu from the CD to try it out, though i've read it will be a little slower ran from the CD.

i'm just wondering if anyone can give me some tips on booting from the drive, as well as helping me find some tips on how to install it if i like it, i'm not having much luck with search...

i appreciate any and all help :D

For dual-booting, read one of the step-by-step how-to with screenshots from this website before anything else.
When you want to burn the Ubuntu CD Image (ISO), use a program like ImgBurn and burn it at a slow speed (2*/4*) to avoid any burn errors.
If that's been done, you will need to make your CD the first boot device in your BIOS.
Usually that can be done by pressing F8 when you've started your computer and then select the CD/DVD as the first device in the boot menu but you have to check this out yourself.
When that's done just pop in the Ubuntu CD, reboot and you can start with your new Linux OS.
    Cheers and have fun.

I usually copy the image to a USB flash drive and boot it from there, much faster and I don't waste blank CDs that way...
