thanks....I see that grey is still there....

I'm not even sure whether I like the theme or not; I mean, its not aesthetically displeasing, however I feel that taking a negative (inverting colors) of Ubuntu's previous color scheme is a pointless change.
-
It certainly doesn't look attractive. Especially to newbies I guess.
But don't most users here immediately change color schemes and more?
I mean, when I see those horrid colors, I already start visualizing a new desktop/GTK-engine/window-borders/theme etc.
Tbh, I find the standard scheme not important at all.... -
It might very well change before the final release. I understand that some of the work they are doing is a test to ensure that darker themes are usable. This, in and of itself, is a worthwhile endeavor. You don't want to offer darker themes and have the user curse because some checkbox or icon can't be found because the developers did not think things through and the contrast between GUI elements is screwed up.
Hmm... as I'm writing this I am reminded of a Gnome theme which was broken. If you had a list of items, the selected item in the list was not highlighted but disappeared from the screen! The theme had not been properly tested.
As far as I'm concerned, they can release whatever alphas with whatever color schemes but I prefer that they switch back to an appealing default before doing the final release of Intrepid. -
I don't immediately change things. My computer is a tool and I'm doing work with it. I don't have much time to fiddle around with themes and color schemes. Sometimes I change some things but that does not happen very often and also I've found that the "OMG! kewl! l33t" themes that some people rave about come with plenty of caveats (fair enough) or bugs (not acceptable).
So I want defaults that are conducive to productivity rather than some ugly scheme coming with the excuse "well you can always change it!" -
Seeing as its Alpha, I think I'll reserve my opinions for the final product.
-
i'm more interested in the internals than if the default scheme is ugly. i mean, it takes me five minutes to change the default theme to something new so it's something i have time for. however, with the new murrine engine that's *supposed* to be out for the official release, you can use real transparency for the windows. so if i kept the default theme, i think i would just make the windows less opaque and use the mist window border. i guess what i'm saying is ubuntu can be an ugly p.o.s. and fedora the shiny bauble of operating systems and i'll pick the ugly o/s. although, i have 5 minutes to spare.
-
Didn't they say they're putting a 'contest' on deviantart to see who can do the best theme?
-
I said that was an idea over at BS, not yet put into actuality.
-
too dark too see falling asleep...
Nightmare!!!! oh wait i just set my laptop screen brightness too low.
There goes the battery life, bye bye 40% i had too because too dark...
