    :p thks to everyone in the forum i finally got xp installed along with vista. now i am trying to install linux but....
    it doesn;t load up at all if i just press enter and i have tried this website, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=521753 but i only get the part to get into the "safe mode' but don;t know how to install graphic drivers, i just don;t get it :p i would really appreciate if anyone could help with me installing ubuntu on my comp

    Which version of Ubuntu? Have you tried the first steps to boot normally the livecd?

    You tried the following (taken from the website quoted)?:

    At the LiveCD initial boot screen do the following:

    Move The Cursor Down To Safe Video Mode
    Select F6 for more options
    Add the following option to the beginning of the options list:
    break=top (and put a space after it)
    Press enter to start booting
    Ubuntu will start booting, but kick you out to a command prompt; at the prompt type these two commands:
    modprobe piix
    exit

    You will now boot into the LiveCD normally.

    well it is working now and using linux fine except the sound doesn;t come out.
    i use the one for dell vostro 1500 which is using almost samething as vostro 1700. i am happy with it but now i have window problem :p

    sudo apt-get install module-assistant
    sudo m-a update
    sudo m-a prepare
    sudo m-a a-i alsa
