i have already installed ubuntu on a cf card using an expresscard adapter however my compact flash card is too slow. I am thinking of buying an xporter xt 32gb usb stick with 26mb/s read and 7mb/s write with a 0.6ms access time and installing ubuntu on it. Would the performance be better/ worse than my installing ubuntu on my internal hd with 27.5mb/s read/write with a 16.8ms access time. If so, to what degree?

in my opinion, installing ubuntu on your internal drive will provide better results (at lower cost, free!) than on a usb stick...
but its totally up to you. -
i wanted a 32gb one but i may just go for a jumpdrive lightning 4gb usb or a sandisck ducati 4gb cf both with faster reads ( and access times ) than my internal hd.... anyone know of any 32gb or 16gb usbs that have a read speed of at least 30 and writes of at least 15mb/s
thanks"!!! -
I made the LiveCD into a LiveUSB
A fully functional OS in a usb -
If you want a fully functional OS on a usb, I'd recommend persistent mode.

no! no! no! lol persistence is no good. just install the full os on your usb
-
What do you have against persistence?
Why do you prefer live to persistence? Saving settings, etc. is helpful.
Full OS takes a lot more space than persistence -
-
2 gb is not a lot, but enough to store the OS, some customizations and some apps in persistent mode. The OS only takes about 750mb, settings take almost no space. I have a 1gb usb with some settings and essential files for emergencies - if my hard drive crashes I can still connect to the internet, access my office VPN, etc.
