Whenever I charge my computer to 100 percent, and shut it down, the next time I use it(usually say 5 hours later), my battery is around 75-80 percent. Is this weird? I think it is but I'm not positive.

It sounds like your battery is dying, and can only hold a charge when it's getting current.

It happens some times. :) Not quite the same, but I bought a brand new car battery once, that died after a week and wouldn't hold a charge at all.
I take it you bought it new? If so, just contact HP tech support, and they should send out a new one if it's indeed bad (it sounds like it is).

I see. They will still do it even if I use ubuntu right? Not sure about their warranty policy.

yes. you don't have to tell them you installed ubuntu because it's not relevant to your battery depleting when your computer is switched off

I've heard reports of people where their laptop's wireless cards still suck power even when it's off. Maybe its something along the lines of that?

It's better to leave the battery off if you don't need it. Keeping the battery in while on AC power and not charging will kill the battery alot faster.

I know my laptop uses battery power when it's off, regardless of what operating system it uses when it's on. This is because the infrared sensor is always functional, so I can turn on the laptop by remote.
