I know that's the problem I had when I installed 7.10, and I had to fix it by adding support for my card to some list or other.....maybe it's something similar.

    I did this command:
and then added this to the end of the file:

This will only work if you have a SigmaTel sound chip.

Reaktek isn't in that model line.

I wasn't suggesting that those exact steps would work for him, just that it might be something similar. ;)

wait for April to come :)

8.04 is still in develpment so the best thing to do is just wait if you have problems (imo)

yeah, definitely wait for april to come around, though i would also recommend liquidiq's info above about compiling alsa drivers from source to see if that will help (after uninstalling alsa from ubuntu first of course). many people with similar problems saw their issues fixed my doing this, so it's worth a shot.

Well, I upgraded to 8.04, but I didn't lose my sound. In my situation, it's loud and crackly. I have an HP Pavillion dv6000. Also, the sound buttons on my keyboard do not change the level of sound like it should. Any suggestions on ways to fix it? Thanks!

I know this thread is about the dev version but I had the same problem with the 8.04 release and I just found the solution for my audio problem here. I hope this might be helpful to others.
