The merge of Compiz Extras and Beryl is now called Compiz Fusion. You will find it included in recent major distributions (Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, Mandriva, etc.)
-
cool thanks but witch would you say was the best
and will it run smoothly on my system -
I can't help you with virtualization because I haven't tried it.
Other than that, in a regular installation, it would run smoothly with your hardware. (What is your graphics card?)
Ubuntu and Mint are both easy distributions but Mint is even easier for a beginner. On both, it's really easy to enable the visual effects. -
No. VMWare doesn't supports the kind of graphics you need for Compiz in Guest OS VMs. (And probably never will IMO)
-
o well guess ill have to dual boot
-
Looks like you might be able to do it: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=84344
-
I've tried it via dual boot and also VMware, and the VM will lag considerably.
So -- no it won't. :/ -
What the best way to run Windows only tax programs (vertical market) on a linux desktop? VMware?
-
Have you tried WINE?
-
Not in a long time....I thought that was built into most linux distros now, no? If not, I guess I need to install it.
-
You will have to install it.
-
I've installed it, but can't anything to run right off....looks like searching for native dll's etc.....i.e. a pain in the arse
-
Wine sucks. I just Load Windows to VMware and work with certain windows apps from it.
-
Beryl will not run in a virtual environment as virtual machines do not yet support 3D acceleration. The same thing goes for games.
-
that's what I was thinking would be the more civilized way to do it...
will beryl run smooth in VMware
