Who has a laptop with a GMA x3100 and is running compiz-fusion ? Does it work well ?
-
My GMA900 runs compiz-fusion near perfect. I don't know any one personally that has the x3100 yet, but I would hope it would perform just as well.
-
I'm not running it because performance is terrible! I don't know if it's just me, but when I enable XGL, it slows to a crawl.
Furthermore, this is supposedly a driver problem. When one boots the live CD, Compiz is disabled on the X3100 because it's on the blacklist.
It's not the only problem I'm having; Google Earth won't display overlay images or roads properly.
I'm being patient with it. I imagine it will all get sorted out eventually, since the driver is a work in progress, but for the moment, I'm not using it. -
It works mostly fine... If you enable it. Check out the T61 thinkwiki for instructions how to.
Video doesn't work, which is why I think it's blacklisted. The desktop effects and such, the ones that do work (water doesn't), work pretty smoothly for me. -
Awww it seems horrible...

I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 with Compiz Fusion enabled on my Fujitsu Lifebook A6030 which has the X3100 and it's working flawlessly. I also have Awn running which requires Compiz Fusion (or Beryl) and everything is running smoothly. Note, I'm only using the default extras with trailfocus enabled.

1) ALT + F2
2) gksudo gedit /usr/bin/compiz
3) Add a [#] in front of [T="$T 8086:2982 8086:2992 8086:29a2 8086:2a02 8086:2a12" # intel 965] to turn it into a comment rather than delete it (minus the []) -

"XV does not play with XAA under compiz, only with EXA "
I can still play videos so I see no problem with commenting out the blacklist.
Edit: I'm not using the default video output as it doesn't work. -
also, can i see what your xorg.conf looks like? -
I can't be the only one that it performed horribly for.
As soon as I log in with it enabled, the whole screen goes white (whereas it shows the splash screen without Compiz) until the desktop loads. Then everything is slow to draw and lags and is overall just awful. Redraws often involve the screen flashing white or the window involved flashing white.

Dunno.. It works very well for me.. minus the video.
But if you add the # to the blacklist line, you can just to into appearance and turn off effects if you need to see video. Turn it back to whatever you want (I got to custom) for it to be enabled again.
I'm sure it'll work itself out.
And for those wondering, once compiz is updated you'll have to do it again, the new code will overwrite your comment. -
The main "problem" with X3100 is that it uses the system RAM thus the amount of RAM affects on how smoothly all the effects work, and do not forget about your different CPUs which also affects to the overall performance of the computer.
So people please check your RAM amount and your CPU if you're having problems with X3100. It would also be easier to help you guys if you told others that information :GEEK: -
how smooth do you guys think x3100 will work on a high res display? I know people have said it's smooth on their laptops, but there is a lot more to render on a 1920x1080 display.

I have a hp dv 6648se that has the x3100 graphic Video , i have Ubuntu Gutsy and i try bout the script for the toshiba laptop and the other recomendation to put # on the compiz bin, but i have a problem.

Cairo Clocks doesnt apear it apears just a white square...
and about my RAM it is 2 Gb
mmm how do you get to see video with compiz...
and other question is this Graphic card a Bad Graphic Card ?,
i just have buy this laptop to have compiz, so i am a little frustated my old laptop was an hp dv 1000 and it works fine with Beryl... -
For the record, using the '#' trick to comment out the black listing of my card allowed me to run Compiz just fine on my T61 running Linux Mint.

On my EEE, I have Linux Mint and I run Beryl [pretty much the same as Compiz Fusion anyway] without much trouble. There is a performance difference - the EEE does indeed slow down after enabling Beryl as my WDM. I don't see why an X1300 should have any trouble provided you get good stable drivers.
