I would take a 1680 x 1050 screen any day of the week over a 1920 x 1200 screen when it comes to a screen size of a meager 17".
People are just hyped into believing that bigger is "always" better and thats just not the case especially with regards to LCD panels of smallish size. You would be very hard pressed to notice the difference between a 720p and 1080p at say 32". True 1080p doesn't really begin to distance itself from 720p until you reach the 46"+ range.
So I would wager a good amount that you couldn't tell the difference between screens. Build quality would have more to do with overall satisfaction.
The other benefit to having a 1680 x 1050 screen is that you can play games at the native res with more juice than you would a 1920 x1200 screen. Down-grading from native res can make a game look wack.
I do still feel sorry that you were provided incorrect specs, and you received a different screen. Fortunately in this situation I think you will in the long run find the screen to be more than adequate and probably never feeling lacking accept for the simple math of 1920x1200 > 1680x1050 but that doesn't mean its better. -
What about the litmus test 3dMark06 Vista64
-
I agree. Unless you are using it for CAD/GFX you will never miss the rez.
-
can we please kindly have the 3dmark 06 benchmarks ???
-
result are posted in my sig and some pic
-
The more I look at it, the more annoyed the keyboard surround makes me...
-
Thanks !!!
is there something wrong with the 3dmark 06 benchmark url ???
-
u mean the red trim or the mess i got lol
falling cat wait a few min i will fix it i m running the marks again without turbo i will post that 2 -
lol, yeah the red trim... Should have been CF, at least black, IMO.
-
Thanks !!!
-
well well well ... finally we have it ...
at 3.0 Ghz running on the cpu ... the 4850 just squeeze out about 9400++ on 3dmark 06 ...
thats quite a modest score ... -
I guess the 4850 isn't such a Geforce 9800M series killer after all. A notebook with a C2D @ 2.2Ghz + Geforce 9800M GTS scores around 9600+ in 3dmark06.
-
Golly, spray paint and overclocking.... might have to jump OFF this bandwagon
-
well then ...
it will be pretty interesting to see how the 4870 stacks up in 3dmark 06 ...
-
It's still about 1000 or so points better than what the 9800M GS of the Asus G50VTs were getting before overclocking, however, as I have mentioned MANY times befores: I have seen synthetic tests having almost zero correlation to real world performance. We need some app & game benching...
-
that was nt turbo i messed up the setting did it again check sig
-
better... but not the 10k everyone assumed.
-
Maybe a drivers issue?
-
i am thinking of updating the driver and try again u never know
-
Hopefully...................................................
Should hit 10k without the "turbo". -
I'd say hit it with the latest and greatest drivers and see what she puts out.
-
can't wait to see the benchmarks for Crysis!!!
-
thats a little better with the 9700++ score on 3dmark 06 ...
it seems to have exceed my expectations slightly ...
-
yes ... please do kindly post some crysis benchmarks too
thanks
-
perhaps the 10k score belongs to the 4870 ...
-
Thats with overclocking the GPU to near BSoD numbers. Most stock 9800M GTS sporting laptops like the 7811FX/7801-5u score in the middle 8k range.
I would suspect that with turbo and some tweaking GPU clocks the ATI could pull in low to mid 10k range. Just need to put the proof in the pudding and unfortunately I do not have the rig to do it. -
It was ASSUMED that you would not have to tweak it to get it to the 10k range
-
It's over in the ASUS forum, the OVERCLOCK YOUR 9800M GS THREAD, clocked at GTS speeds, reported temp during 3DMark06 test run was 87C, and stable. Hardly near BSoD, as it would seem that they still have a bit of thermal headroom if the components can stand up to further up-clocking.
Then again, I'd expect the 4850 to be overclockable as wel, but like I keep saying, lets see some app & game benchs. Synthetic test almost always have very little correlation to real world usage. -
Not to be a pain in the butt, but did you manage to get your unboxing video up on youtube?
-
no pain at all i am still working on it i think there is an error in the file so i am conveting it to diffirent format and spliting it. hopefully that will work finger cross
-
Well, according to the synthetics, this is between a 9800M GT and a 9800M GTX. Vantage score is pretty close to that of a 9800M GTX with a T9600. Now we just need in game benchmarks to see what this thing could really do. Also, what Driver/Catalyst version are you using?
-
ok guys finaly unboxing p1 is up check sig sorry about the quality u have no idea how much i have to suffer to get this working so plz dont take the thanks
-
awsome vid! looking forward to your gaming benchmarks! really nice rig. Just a suggestion for a game benchmark. if you have steam u can dl the dow2 beta and try that
-
Nice vid mate
-
ok both part up and runing have to delete some pic of my sig as its limited
-
well not much steam left lol i have nt even had any food all day just been filling my stomach with GT725 lol
ok what is dow2 post a link i will try someone here ask me to down load cpuid moniter i did if u wanna know anything let me know also downloaded cpuz -
dawn of war 2 is an rts game. and a very good one at that. its not out yet. whats out now is the beta, and i'm contemplating getting the same laptop as you to play it cause my laptop with an 8600mgt can't handle it. to get it go to http://store.steampowered.com/
and get the steam client. from within that client u can get dow2 and many other games.
Its called the dawn of war 2 multiplayer beta. its free now
And thanks for all the effort so far! -
Did you get a GPU-z screenshot yet, faisalhero? I'm curious to see how much overclock head room it still has.
-
hopefuly this will help any pro let me know
http://i39.tinypic.com/k4terp.jpg -
You, sir, are a hero. I can't believe it's only clocked at 500 MHz, that's pretty low for a RV770. Unless ATi really turned down the core voltage, it should be able to at least match the desktop's clock speed (625 MHz). The problem with ATi's architecture is that it does not perform well at low core clock speeds, because its shader domain clock is also tied to it. If it's anything like my HD 4870, even increasing the core speed by 25 MHz would yield an easy extra 600-700 points in 3DMark06.
Out of curiousity, can you access the Catalyst Control Center? I'm curious to see if Overdrive is enabled for the mobile cards.
-
i guess i can what do u wanna know?
-
What about the GPU temps?
-
Right-click anywhere on the desktop and it should be there in the drop-down menu. If not, MSI probably installed their own version that disabled it and you will need to install new drivers from ATi's website. By the way, yours came with Catalyst 8.12, and just missed the new 9.1 drivers.
-
no pro installing 9.1 now cpu tem in the last post check a few post back plz
done got 9.1 would that make any diff? -
It depends. The original 8.12 had some issues, and sometimes last month ATi released a hotfixed version that helped out the new HD 4000 cards a bit.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/catalyst-91.html
Look at the 1GB 4870's performance. -
If you are able to overclock the GPU, please let me know how and what clock speeds you set it up as.
-
i guess it does help here new 3dbm turbo

how come in the 3DMark06 benchmark the ram says 3GB, does it not recognize the left over 1GB?
-
with the vista 32bit it only read 3gb i guess thats the reason
