Hello
I just made a tutorial on how to install the driver for the 4850 on vista 32:
http://rupp3r.free.fr/gt725/tutodriveren.htm
(it looks like it don t work for xp)
edit: +100/150 on graphic score of 3dmv
-
Very good work Rupp3r, +rep for you sure, im going to add this to the OC thread first page also because the 9.6 supposedly gives a nice boost in games, and therefore OC with it should be pleasant
Thanks again! -
Looks like its exactly the the same as what i done. Except i didn't rename the driver first. What are the benifits of renaming?
-
Probaably to avoid confusion when installing i guess Fox, but im not sure, i will actually learn to mod drivers i think hehe.
-
It seems that aren't any gain in crysis, just in 3dm vantage, but i don t have test any other game
renaming the driver lets us submit the result correctly in 3dmark
edit: +0.1 fps on crysis
-
So technically you could rename it to a X1600 pro and kill any record on 3dmark?
-
if futuremark hasn t any protection system wich detect the code of the card yes, but i think that they are not so stupid
-
Haha, good idea tho fox
but i doubt itl work. Shame about 9.6 in crysis :/ i was hoping but oh well, vantage is good though (wait it actually isnt) because of the fact vantage doesnt support my native res....

I Installed the Blu-Ray software a few nights ago, and restarted the notebook, and everthing seemned fine accept that the head phone jack wasn't working. Audio was still comming out of external speakers.
Checked the cable, looked at windows audio manager, and noticed that software was set to external speaker. Changed to headphone out. Closed software, which then defaults back to speakers. Tried again, applied settings, still defaulting to external speakers.
Ok, so now I download latest audio manager from MSI to use on my GT725.
Install the drivers. Restart, laptop now recognises headphones are plugged in. Good.
I restarted the machine again last night, and notice the audio control manager has stopped working again, so can't use head phones. AAAhhh!
Seems to be a problem since installing the Blu-Ray software
-
Yeah like I said, it looks worse in real life. Week by week you can notice it spreading too! I would love to get it painted in red, like the other highlights around the keyboard, but I'm not willing to go through all the fuss to get it done. Just annoys me, thats all... I think I've gotten the .inf files for 9.6 right... I've just gotta test them. Will post soon. Do you want a better pic of the desktop Cat? PM me if you want with your email. Then I can send Hi-Res.
-
just got this baby today and its awesome. how do I increase the OC to 20% instead of 16%? I have the gt725-074US model
-
Hey Snake 'n' welcome aboard
You will need to activate it in your bios ( i believe f2 during boot up) and then you need to go to the advanced tab, press fn and insert and advanced controls should become available and you should be able to change overclock settings from there, if 20% is unstable, and your ram is set to 800MHz, set the RAM speed to 667MHz and it should stabilise up. -
Wow! I think sales of GT725s have just spiked! Not a bad thing, though, everyone is getting a beast of a machine. I must appologize, though, I must have not read the post that said a guy had already made a tutorial to mod the .inf. Thanks anyway though, will try that.

Hey guys, do any of you know where I can get a 64 bit version of Vista for free, while keeping it legal? I'm not talking about a cracked version, but rather one that I can install on the GT725 (when I get it) that can utilize the serial they have used for the 32 bit version that the laptop uses.
I'm aware that you can order a DVD containing it from Microsoft, but I don't really want to pay anything. -
I'm pretty sure, this is worth a try: One day I was reformatting a computer that had a key for Home Premium 64bit, and I put in a Bussiness 64bit disk, entered the Home Premium key, and instead of installing Bussiness 64, it installed Home Premium 64. So judging from this, I'd say you can throw in any 64bit Vista disk, enter your key, and all should be sweet (as well as keeping it legal) I've been meaning to try this for a while now, but haven't gotten around to it.
-
Except no one I know uses Vista, so I don't have a disc.
-
well im sure you can find disks somewhere
ANd it'l be legit so longs as your using a legit serial.
I hit a problem today, i was playing company of heroes with some friends via wireless lan. I had the settings medium high. Everytime the game started i lost connectivity to my friends, i tried everything in book, dirrefernt people hosting, everything and could not get it to work. So i finally tried lowering the settings... and it worked, played solidly for the rest of the evening
The medium high settings i was using the computer is welllll capable of running, and on a large map, with 8 AI im still returning 50fps+ with out turbo.
Any ideas what it might be, i think the drivers have caused a hiccup somewhere, and lowering the detail seems to disable those "broken" elements. What your thoughts? -
Blah.. I keep hearing about all these guys getting their GT725's in but I'm still waiting on mine. Being in Iraq sucks, takes forever to get things in. Lol! Oh well.. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait
.
-
just played a 3v3 on company of heroes and it plays flawless for me. I get an average of 35fps on native res of 1680x1050 with everything on the highest settings including 8xAA. No hiccups at all. btw I did that tutorial that guy posted for 9.6 and everything plays sweet for me, but i dunno if its better than the old drivers.
-
You can just download a copy, and use your serial (only slightly illegal
)
-
Hi guys, another soon to be owner of a GT725, if it ever gets here.
I know how you feel twistaye, I ordered mine over 2 weeks ago and it looks like it hasn't even left the states yet. Trying to be patient in Australia. -
Oh crap. Seems like your in the same boat as I was. Not to put a damper on things, but after mine left the US, 3 WEEKS LATER, I got a nice little letter from customs, saying I owe them somewhere between $150AUD and $370AUD. Ended up costing $250AUD to get it released
. Congrats on the buy though
. Oh, and, uh, welcome to the GT725 owners lounge.
-
Now this post it to all the people that have just bought an MSI GT725: The paint will rub off around the monitor (see my post where I uploaded the pics a couple of pages ago), and theres nothing you can do about it. However, the touchpad finish, which is made from the same paint will wear off as well, unless you buy a vinyl touchpad protector from me for $5AUD
. Will post overseas (Selling will be done through eBay). Raise your hand all who want one
-
Completely shameless lol
-
Curious though, how does one scratch the monitor insides when the book is shut? Surely you arent brushing its teeth
Its just odd how the screen outline go scratched like that.
And welcome aboard wheels! -
How does the warranty stand with cosmetic damage like this? Surely its not fit for purpose?
-
Hmm thats true, but you tend to find, even repaints will come off...again, i had this with my sony, you can use warrenty, but the paint will just do the same, unless you re-coat it yourself.
I scratched my mousepad
! Now i need to find some cover for it or something.
-
Hey lambofreak, if you are who I think you are, I hope your feeling better, and my touchpad cover arrived today. Now I just need my lappy to put it on, lol.
Also, which model did you get, the 74 or the 212. If yours is the 74 looks like I could be up for more from customs because mine is the 212.
Did the seller mark it as "warranty return", not that I think that would fool them, but if they didn't with yours it gives me some hope.
As to the marks on your laptop screen surrond, it looks like the MSI may have a problem I had with an old IBM I had. The screen had some movement in it when closed because it was held by magnets and not a catch. If I packed things in with it in the case, the rubber stoppers on the lid would compress and the lid would rub on the body. -
Well I was bored and I thought it would be funny to run a 3dmark06 on the laptop I've been using.. (until my 212US gets here
).
So low and behold.. the almighty power.. of the Compaq Presario F700

Hi all
I was looking for a gaming notebook and my budget is about 1200 GBP so i found the MSI GT725
The model i was looking @ is this one:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-017-MS&groupid=959&catid=1441&subcat=
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 2.53GHz 6MB Cache (1066MHz FSB)
- Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 512MB
- Memory: 4GB DDR2 RAM
- Hard Drive: 500GB SATA (5400RPM)
- Optical Drive: Blu-Ray
- Screen: 17.0" WUXGA+ LCD Widescreen (1920x1200)
£1078.99 inc VAT
I have some questions though
1_Everywhere i looked says this Dual core model has a 1680x1050 resolution, but this one has 1920x1200,could OCUK be wrong ?
2_Isn't the 5400RPM HDD a little slow for this rig ?
3_Can anyone post his/her gaming experience with the HD 4850 in games like Crysis/Crysis warhead
4_How is the build quality of this notebook ?
5_How much a P9500 can be OC'd with the Turbo button and how much a Q9000 can ?
thanks alot
-
Hey there, its also on laptopdirect.co.uk too.
I think its 1680x1050 unless the specification is apserlutely correct.
The 5400RPM is slow yes, optimise it and its fast, very fast
im talking (20 second windows load up and like 3 second login)
My machine can fluently run crysis because of an even lower native, i think the 1680 machine can fluently run it with driver update and turbo mode
, im not sure if Crysis is multicore optimised but who knows, just wait for some replies methinks.
And twis LOL!!!!!
Haha, i cant wait till you post your GT725' over it
-
1. UK models are different than US models, which get most of the conversation
2. Don't know, I have a US model with 7200 rpm
3. Crysis demo at High w/ 2x AA is very playable. That is at 1680x1050 though
4. Solid... only issues are cosmetic (touchpad wear preventable with screen protector, slight wear around screen possible)
5. Q9000 only gets 3-5% gain to like 2.06 or something, P9500 goes up to 24% with the BIOS option to 3.14 -
thanks for the fast reply guys
laptopdirect is reporting 1680x1050 too,but OCUK reports 1920x1200,strange
-
If you youtube MSI GT725 faisals video is on there with UK model, he will have the specs listed i believe.
-
I better ask OCUK themself
-
Hey.
With the UK models the dual core version is 1680x1050. The quad core is 1900x1200.
5400rpm seems to work okay.
As the guy above said all games are good so no worries
-
I will make a video of HDD performance and upload (as well as crysis running) on a tv with the different res' 13** (similar to the 1280 res model) 1440, 1680 and 1920.
-
thanks alot for the help guys
Yup i think OCUK is wrong, the dual core model has a 1680x1050 screen -
I've just ordered the MSI 725 - 087(uk) model from ccl.
yeah that model only comes as 1680 x 1050.......but personally it won't make much of a difference for me tbh
Edit: I'm a total noob at Overclocking etc.
If I change the turbo mode to 20% or 24%.....how do I test that it is stable and not causing any damage to my system?
(I'm probably not going to OC my gpu, just the cpu using the default turbo mode)
~thanks -
Welcome abord elite
(Man MSI are selling well this week hehe)
Well when it comes to the CPU, setting 667 mhz on the ram w ill alow 24% to run without bsodding which is good
GPU can handle easY overclocks too if you really need it
-
is there a way to disable the startup bip? I seek in bios but found nothing
-
I have another question too
How does ATI Mobility HD 4850 stand against NVIDIA GTX 260M ? i was reading this chart:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
And it seems they perform close to each other and mostly the ATI model has an slight edge over its nvidia's rival
Any ideas? -
About right, though I have seen higher numbers on overclocks on the GTX260/9800m GTX.
-
Ive seem the hd4850 rip the gtx280m appart overclocked with a modded gt725.
-
But if I remember right, all the charts I've seen in games have shown the GTX280 come out on top of a single HD 4850. They're both great cards, though.
-
Can u plz post the link of those charts?
Also does anyone have any links that compares HD 4850 with GTX 260M ? -
When comparing overclocks, the gtx 280 gets ripped a new one because it doesnt have much overclock potential.
This is a sager with gtx 280m and qx9300 with GPU overclocked and CPU.
MSI GT725 with minor overclock and qx9300.
It gets over 14k when it has the clocks really ramped up, and it is stable too. -
I messed up. I thought you guys were talking about the 280, not the 260. I believe the charts said the 280 was higher than the 4850, but I'm not sure about the 260.
You can be like me and just go to Google images and type in *your game here* benchmark and there should be charts if it's a fairly popular/recent game. -
Wow, the CPU really does a number on those 3dmark06 scores... with a P8600 OC'd 24% (2.97 GHz) and the GPU at 550/900 I get 10723...
I expect it to be less, especially the CPU score, but the SM 2.0 and 3.0 scores are 400 points less as well. -
Bear in mind neil, the 4850 is NOT fully overclocked, and the GTX 280 is, and also the CPU is also not fully overclocked either
The abilities of this machine are fantastic to be honest.
