Got a few over at China saying it's possible. Can't confirm this, but looking very good to me... especially once you get a hands on the custom BIOS that Svet might do
-
Wow I love it ! Very temptingg!
-
Out of curiosity was that what it was?
Has there been many problems with the MS-1762 mainboard going bad.Mine went bad after a few days. I think I used it for a total of four hours in four days. I came back to try and use it and it wouldn't turn on. Pushing the button would make the light come on for split second and then go off. Nothing else would come on. The fan never spun. The hard drive never spun nothing. So I've worked it out mostly with the company I bought it from but, Im curious if Im going to have this problem again in the future? -

It's not something I have seen banded around much, looks like you were just the unlucky one, hope you get it back (working) soon!
-
Your 16F3 barebone should be able to upgrade to steelseries keyboard from the branded model. but some newer barebone models won't work anymore, won't even detect the keyboard.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
If your 16F3 came STANDARD with the Blue backlit keyboard, the 24 color Steelseries keyboard will not work. -
meaker anything i can do to improve my performance i have a 680m and a 3610 right now. I saw some mod i can do with a bio flash to oc the cpu and gpu, but is it a huge gain?

It's a bit of work, you can kiss your warranty good bye, but you will get 40-50% more out of it.
-
=( nvm i like my powernotebook warranty.
-
Hi guys sorry for the late reply. Thank you all for the feedback. I guess that idea is a no go but ill think about it again when the need to replace it comes. Anyway, I have tested alot of games already and all of them work perfectly at very high settings so far. I cant wait to play crysis 3/ HotS on it.

For now it's a got a lot of power stock, it's mostly worth considering when the warranty is out anyway

OK so I posted that my laptops main board went bad. The company did great in immediately having it shipped back. Once it got there they verified that it was indeed not working. They then informed me that it was going to be sent to MSI for an RMA. I find this as not acceptable as the laptop is brand new and if MSI has to replace the mainboard it effectively becomes a refurbished laptop which is not what I purchased. I had to fight a little to get them to replace the laptop. They claimed it was a misunderstanding and said the would ship it out in 2-3 days. I said fine even though I need the laptop rather quickly. They told me 2-3 days on January 24th. It was in the evening so I didn't count that day.
Well today is day four. I e-mailed midday to check and see what was up and all I got back was "It will ship today". I then sent a second e-mail before the place closed. No response but, I did get a quantum view for UPS saying they have had the electronic information sent over. That means it's not going to ship till tomorrow ..... day 5. Should I be this frustrated right. In my eyes the guy has basically lied over and over again. The review for the company were excellent. Should I write this off as bad luck and maybe they ran into some issues? I'm concerned know about how my warranty will be handled in the future?
*Update*
Well I've never seen that before. The package was actually picked up by UPS at 10:00pm. So it did ship yesterday which is great. Should be here by Monday. I'm a happy camper. -
Just curious; how does it exactly become a refurbished laptop if MSI replaces the mainboard?

Hi folks!
I'm trying my luck here as well: I have a MSI 16F3 (GT60 barebone) with a gtx680m. Has anyone successfully updated its EC+BIOS? I have a slight throttling issue and have been told that such update might fix it, but I cannot find any EC+BIOS specifically for this barebone and the GT60's bios is not fully compatible (or at least that's what's in its disclaimer). Any thoughts? Any and all reply is much appreciated. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
My 16F3 runs with the GT60 anti-throttle firmware along with an unlocked bios I got from Svet on the MSI forums. Be aware that I use a 240W alienware brick that I modified to soak up any extra power requirements.
-
Hi there Meaker,
Thanks, that is valuable info. Would that mean the latest official EC+Bios plus Svet's vbios or the beta EC on the MSI forums, some other unlocked BIOS+Svet's vbios. Do you need a modified bios (not vbios) at all to cure your throttling issues, or the EC is enough? I don't really want to overvolt right now, I would only like to see the the throttling gone. Do you think the standard 180W brick would have trouble with a non-throttling, software OC'd i7 3630qm+680m? Thanks again for your time and assistance, I'm learning and hope tp ask less questions...
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
3630QM is locked so the only overclocking would be through the GPU. Stock Vbios you are fine, once you start using even the unlocked bios you have to be really careful.
At 4.2ghz and 1033/2600 I am sitting at about 225-230W from the wall. -
Hi,
I've got an 16f31 bare-bone and i cant adjust the brightness with fn key (s-bar brightness adjust doesn't work either)
(win7 ultimate sp1 64, i7 3630, gt675mx 2gb(310.90),16gb ram)
Any ideas? I have tried stock drivers that came with the notebook also upgraded ones and still not working.
also the standby light flashes kind of fast (like 2 times/sec), is it anyway to modify that?
Thanks -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Make sure you have the latest BIOS and EC.
-
seen many customers with this issue. if you haven't done any modification with BIOS or EC then try uninstall S-Bar > reboot > reinstall S-Bar.
If you have already update BIOS and EC then tell us what've you done so we can help. -
I haven't done any bios/ec updates
bios ver E16F3IG6.70R (10.26.2012)
EC: 16F3EG61 v4.09 (6.13.2012)
I just did uninstall and reinstall sbar as suggested still doesn't work ... (the fn+up/down arrow moves the slider on sbar but there is no effect on brightness) (SBar21_21.012.12039)
Thanks. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Then I would update the bios and EC
-
Then... could you please provide download links?
Thanks. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You are best off getting them from your reseller
Shoot them an email.
-
Let's just say I didn't choose my reseller for their excellent customer service
If I had I wouldn't be asking here for the updates...
I was just hopping to get the updates for the 16f3 barebone faster .... seems I was wrong
Thanks anyway. -
EC and BIOS update are not required for S-Bar to work out of the box. did you install .net framework 4.0?
-
Yes I have. According to MSI tho the EC can have impact on FN key functions...
I see there are different BIOS+EC combos for win7 and win8 ... for MSI branded notebooks at least
Do resellers use special BIOS+EC for barebones ?
Thanks for your time. -
You can test to adjust the screen brightness in BIOS by holding Del key. if it's not the BIOS or EC issue then it should work in the BIOS.
-
I'm wondering if the wd green 2.5 inch 2tb drive fits in the optical bay of the 1762 barebones as they are 15mm tall.... anyone suggest me if that is a good idea and having my backups synced in it? Currently running a 512gb ssd and 2 1tb samsung drive, as one is having permanent bad sectors my plan if possible is to get the green drive taking all the files on both my drives and have the good one backing up my os periodically, how does it sound? Any confirmation of 15mm drives working on optical bay will be of great help, thank you.
-
It works in bios... so seems to be W7 problem ...
I tried again different s-bar versions none adjust the brightness ... Micro Star SCM service is running also Microsoft .NET Framework service... I also did windows update... updated intel graphics and still not working.
Thanks again for your time. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You are using the official mobile drivers right?
-
then it has nothing to do with EC or BIOS. it's software and drivers issue.
Uninstall both SCM and S-Bar > reboot > install only S-Bar > reboot. -
Micro Star SCM service is installed/uninstalled along with S-bar
Both intel/nvidia drivers are from MSI site (for w7/64)
Only way to modify screen brightness is from intel control pannel.
Thanks, again for your time. -
You can try update to EC version 502:
http://gentechpcforums.com/Images/MSI/EC/16F3EG61.502.rar -
Thank you. That fixed the brightness adjustment.
The s-bar isn't even needed for the FN keys to work.
Thanks again for all your help. -
Should be getting my barebone 937-176262-033 next week. Do any drivers come with the laptop? Any difference between drivers of msi gt70 and barebone? Just wanted everything ready for installing hardware and win7. Should I put new thermal paste on video cards heatsink?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If you ordered it with HDD and OS from a reseller they should do a full install for you. The drivers are the same yes, don't forget to pick up the latest video drivers from Nvidia
-
No I ordered just the barebone laptop part# 937-176262-033 on amazon from seller computer upgrade king. Thats why I also was wondering if I should bother to repaste the video cards heatsink while I have it all open to put in cpu and stuff. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You will get a driver disk, though if you can download the latest you are best off using those.
-
Just received my MS-1762 laptop!!
The touch panel seems conflict with the FN button, especially the bluetooth and WIFI activation features if SCM is loaded....
if the SCM is unloaded, no more conflict, but optical driver can't reject anymore...
Any tools that can fix??
I have try update to latest SCM (10.013.03016) but still doesn't help...
And the microphone's volume is in extreme low..... I try all the way with the realtek apps, cannot crank it up even I set it too 100%..... is it normal??? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Did you get the right SCM version for your notebook? There is one for windows 7 to windows 8 upgraders and one for native windows 8 machines.
-
I got the one for native win8 while my laptop are built with clean win8 install
honestly I have also try already the win7 to win8 version, that one lead a crash -
one question just popped up in my mind, I am very tempted to getting the UEFI firmware on my 1762 which is currently running the BIOS firmware, afraid of failing to update where some people in china successfully upgraded from bios to UEFI (yes i'm chinese and I did read through the whole procedure) in case of a bad flash will purchasing a pre programmed UEFI BIOS and soldering it straight on in a computer repair store be an idea of testing compatibility where in the case of a fail test I can resolder the BIOS to the board and still get the OS running?
-
Got my Barebone put together and everything works great except keyboard. It mistypes and I think its thinking I’m hitting the tab and return when I’m pressing keys on the middle of keyboard. Going to contact seller (Computer upgrade king) hope they can send me replacement keyboard, don’t want to send back after I installed and got everything running.
Edit: Keyboard issue ended up being how sensitive the touchpad is, i turned it off and everything is good now. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The touchpad is interfering with the keyboard? Double check the connector is secure fully.
-
Its interfering by being too sensitive I think. It is causing curser to tap and double tap while I type. I just turned it off in s-bar until I find a way to make it less sensitive. Touch pad works fine on its own just can’t type and have it on at the same time, but never had that problem before with a laptop. Its almost like just touching the surrounding area of the touchpad triggers it. -

just got a friend who visited me from Australia.... with the super raid adapter being sold separately there for my 1762, snapped on an m5m works without a single problem, gona get the second one as soon as I have the money and setup raid just to verify that the old 1762 supports all the hardware options on the GT70, currently replaced the steelseries kb and the dual msata adapter without raid.
-
Hey thanks, worked like a charm!
-
I got exactly the same problem here in my 1762! I try my best to slip my hand apart from being touched the pad, but sometime it still trigger an unknown touch and lead a cursor jump... still undergoing some test to see if it is my hand come close to the pad again or hardware problem....
I will try the touchfreeze tools as well, thanks everyone!
