It's one thing you would want to rule out, the 870M was not exactly a frugal card on power.

You need to use either the same, or higher to avoid causing damages to either the AC adapter or system. Yes, it can cause the flickering due to insufficient power supplied. -
Im useing gt60 2pe dominator pro 3k gtx 880m,can i update my nvidia driver useing nvidia geforce experince/nvidia site?

You can try then you will know.

I gave up trying to fix the realtek drivers. I decided to buy one of those 7.1 card adapter which was really cheap, and now I have my audio and mic working just fine.
HOWEVER, I have just realized that my steelseries engine decided not to work properly... The breathing, wave and audio don't work anymore. I already uninstalled it, used CCleaner, and reinstalled it but didn't solve my problem. I saw on another forum about updating my EC firmware, but I'm a little afraid of bricking my system for no reason and I don't know where to check my current firmware version...
Can you guys help me out? -
Hi, first of all sorry for all these questions but I'm very naive about thermal pads. How can I change thermal pads on the CPU and the GPU? Should I buy it as a whole and then cut it into proper sizes as the current pads? Will one standart sized thermal pad be enough? What is their standart size by the way? Which thermal pad brand do you recommend? Thanks.

Update BIOS & EC is pretty safe overall, so don't worry about it.
Under rare circumstance if you do brick it, it's under warranty and MSI will take care of you.
Update instructions are pretty detailed which are available on MSI's BIOS/EC download page. -
Thanks for your reply. I updated the firmware and it was pretty easy. However, it did not solved my problem. I don't know what would be the next step. Do you guys have any idea? It's weird because it was working just fine but out of the blue it doesn't anymore. Also, I don't know exactly when it stopped working...

In your previous fixes did you do a system restore? Worth trying if you did not.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
If restore doesn't work, then back up the data then perform system recovery using internal recovery system, or recovery discs. Something have gone wrong and it's possibly a software-related issue. -
Thank you guys for your replies, I appreciate it.
I tried the last system restore point but it seems that the problem was further in the past so restoring didn't quite get to the problem. If I perform this recovery system strategy would I lose everything in my hard drive (C:/)?
One last note: I installed a MSI keyboard led manager (KLM) and I was able to change the color and set to breathing and other modes that were not working. However, it does not work quite as properly because it shows some little conflicts with steelseries engine. When I uninstalled KLM, steelseries was still able to activate breathing mode (and the others) but I couldn't change the color, it would present the last color that I have set in KLM. In my opinion, it indicates that the steelseries can't change or manage the keyboard backlight entirely.
Again, thank you all -
hey guys..wanna ask..is it safe to upgrade to windows 10 from windows 8? cuz im aware that the scm controls the touch sensors on top of the keyboard and it is hard to re-install?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It's fine to upgrade to Win10 but there may be some issues due to limited software support from the manufacturer.
SCM software should still work, including the touch sensors. -
hah! cool then..will try upgrade to windows 10 soon..will post about it after i install..hope all works fine
-
Hi guys, here's the update.. just upgraded my windows from 8.1 to 10. so far so good. scm, sse, killer network working fine except i cant seem to open the sound blaster cinema software..and for the gaming centre and the rest, i dont have the software installed..heheh
-
To fix Sound Blaster Cinema under Windows 10 go to (C:\Program Files (x86)\Creative\Sound Blaster Cinema\Sound Blaster Cinema), and delete the SBCinema.exe.config file.

Have you cleaned SBC2 up by uninstalling and purging the directory completely? Or try deleting the SBCinema file as Zar mentioned?purlezz likes this. -
@Zar thanks man! will try that soon! but had to revert back to 8.1 cuz im using dual monitor and dota edge pan somehow for some reason doesnt work on windows 10..tried console settings, didnt work.
@Kevin havent tried that..refering to /\ ..if i can find a solution for the edge pan problem in dota 2, ill go back to windows 10 :O cuz windows 10 is just simply fast and smooth :OKevin@GenTechPC likes this. -

If you want, please try again, there are several users who had gotten it to work without SBC2 crashing.purlezz likes this. -
cool! thanks man! will certainly do! after i find the root cause for the edge pan problem for dota 2 in multple screens D;
-
great news! i dont know how but the edge pan for dota 2 is fixed..prolly because previously i upgraded to 10 with both monitors on, this time i tried upgrading it with only the laptop monitor on. and the sound blaster works flawlessly by just deleting the config file! thanks guys, @Zar @Kevin@GenTechPC ! *thumbs up to both of u!*

1. Okay..... This seems to have fixed Sound Blaster Cinema. Thank you much.
However, it appears that config file is NOT "recreated". It appears it's necessary to "save" ones settings?
Like, I adjusted the BASS while in movie config, and restarted, and the bass setting went back to it's default? But, the program at least works it seems, just your settings aren't saved after restart.
BTW, there's a HELP file on this at the MSI website in the FAQ's.
Apparently the full and proper fix (which will fix my issue above likely) is to uninstall Audio Drivers and SBC, and then install them again, and things should work again. Win10 over-rights some audio files causing our stuff to not work. So, a fresh install of the OS shouldn't have this problem, since we install our drivers last.
2. NEVERMIND.... It's working again apparently, and MSI has went to a different Audio system apparently, so I guess we are fine now. Anyone know if there's any way to get MSI and/or SoundBlaster to keep this program updated? Because, it makes a far more powerful speaker experience, volume and quality, including the internal speakers (I don't even use external speakers because they are so good). It's a huge mistake to stop using this.
3. My Windows 8 Key??? I had WN8 installed on my laptop when I got it, tried creating a restore disk, but never could, would get errors, both for USB and DVD creation.
Like an idiot I didn't use a Jelly Bean Finder to find out my Key (didn't think of it at the time), so ended up installing and using a pirated key, to do a fresh install like I wanted.
Everythings good still, but is there any way to find out what KEY I had? Like, do they hide it inside the computer or something when they install an OS for people? Would the people I bought it from have it on file (Pro-Star)? I mean, there is a key for every OS they install, so it must exist somewhere?
4. NEVERMIND..... Ah.... Click MORE on the right, and there's the attachment/pdf. In MSI's FAQ's section for a computer, for many Windows 10 issues it says to "Refer to PDF" or "refer to the attachment file".
What the heck PDF or attachment file are they talking about? I've checked the manual and quick guide software manual.Last edited: Sep 5, 2015 -

leeuniverse,
MSI switched to Nahimic, but this audio system only works on newer version of BIOS, and if you did updated the BIOS then SBC2 will not function unless you revert to a previous version. Software license is embedded inside of the BIOS.
Regarding product key, you can use AIDA64 to find out your product key in the BIOS, it's under ACPI and then MSDM table. -
wait what? @Kevin@GenTechPC , i can install nahimic on gt60 2pc? how?
-
Thanks for responding Kevin.....
1. So, if one ever does update their bios, is one then able to use Nahimic for this computer....? And is it really good sound, a good replacement?
2. Wow.... cool. Going to have to look into that. Thanks much. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Nope, only the systems with 9xxM GPUs. -
Hey guys hope you can help me out. I got the MSI GT70-895 model and ever since I upgraded to windows 10 the power scheme in the dragon gaming center program is always blank. whenever I switch profile modes they work just fine but the dragon gaming center program just remains blank. I already reinstalled the dragon gaming center app along with SCM. Is there anything else I can do? Everything else works fine with windows 10.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, they still need to sort out small details like that.

Thanks for getting back to me. I've installed this SCM but the dragon gaming app still remains blank at the power scheme. The Dragon Gaming Center app I currently have is version 1.0.1312.1101. Is there another version of this app you have that I can try?
-
ahhh..wasted..thanks anyway..btw..any of u got any recommendation for the best driver for gtx 870m?

Remove it, and try this one instead (v1.0.1501.2801).

I found a thread on GeForce forums about serious issues with the 880m GPU...
I have the opportunity to buy a gt70 with the 8gb 880m from a friend.
Is there still an issue today? Or is it safe to buy the 880m?
Cheers! -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
There's no issue but note that 880M is a generation behind and can be obsolete in another year. Of course, cost will be cheaper for buying a product that is older. -
I am referring to this:

What is the desktop equivalent in gaming performance at 1080p to the 880m?

GTX 660 > GTX 590 > 880M > GTX 750 Ti > GTX 560 Ti. -
So is it safe to say that the 880m is a bit better than a 760 and a bit worse than a 770?
Can it maintain 60fps in AAA titles at ultra or close to ultra?
Cheers!

I think there was a typo in your post... The right order should be GTX 590 > GTX 880M > GTX 660 (and Ti). The rest is right.
Yes, it is a bit better than a 760 and a bit worse than a 770.
Well, it is really dependent on games. It is still a very powerful mobile GPU and it can maintain 60 fps in many AAA titles at ultra but there are also titles that it cannot. You can see its game performance on Notebookcheck:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-880M.107622.0.html -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
590 is measured based on single GPU (w/o SLI enabled) from Passmark, that's why.
-
Any vbios tweaks worth it today on the 880m?

Hey guys..im sure yall heard about the new nvidia gtx 980 for notebook (not the 980m)? What u guys think about it? Do u think itll work on msi gt60/gt70? :O
-
How do you mean? GTX 590 > GTX 880M is true but not GTX 660 > GTX 590. I don't trust Passmark because it is such a nonsense that even put 780M ahead to 880M. Or more even put 775M ahead to 780M. There are many samples I can show like this. Notebookcheck is much better for reference.
There are but they tend to warm the GPU and it is already working too hot in my opinion.
I heard GTX 980 for notebooks is apparently using a new MXM module so it might not work. Upgradeability was one of the main reason I bought this gigantic laptop but it is very costly either to buy a new GPU or a whole new notebook so I'm not sure I buy a new GPU for my relatively old notebook rather than buy a brand new notebook.purlezz likes this. -
Me too! Sigh! Such a waste..and mine is not even a year old yet! D; and that's a sad news regarding the gtx 980 notebook. Sucha waste :O

Hey all....
Is there any "real" fix for Sound Blaster Cinema to work? The "deleting" config file thing causes you to not be able to save your SB settings.
Also, I seem to be having "crackling" audio sounds in certain instances like when I very first start my World of Tanks game, and I've been noticing stuff sometimes with movies I watch.
So, I tried Updating the latest Realtek HD Audio Drivers, reinstalling SB Cinema. No go....
I downloaded the "last" MSI release, installed that instead, and then SB Cinema. No go.... SB Cinema will work again, but it now won't detect any "devices", so the program thinks there are no audio cards installed even though I have the official driver installed.
Is there a way to get SB Cinema to recognize the device? The idiot Moderator on the MSI forum "locked" a forum thread that discussed the issue simply because it was "resurrected". Which isn't a bad thing because it gives context, and it's the only dang thread that Google can find on the subject.
Anyone have any thoughts?
The recent guy that had the similar problem seemed to indicate that finding the "right" Realtek driver got iti working again, but then he said it's still not working LOL, so I'm confused. -
For mine i resetted my device and reinstall sound blaster cinema on w10 with w8.1 setup and it is working fine..i had my realted installed first anyway. I tried the realtek drivers from realter site itself and it didnt work, only the one msi provides works flawlessly. probably u can try to reinstall it again?
-
Sorry, could you be a little more clear in step by step form indicate exactly what you did, how, with what exactly etc.?
Thanks much. -
Hey all.... If you get a "Black Screen" on computer restart when installing the stupid Windows 10 Updates today, simply unplug your mouse (and maybe any other things plugged in?) and then restart and "eventually" the startup screen will come up again and the updates will finish installing.
I don't know yet how to perminently fix the problem. Some are saying it's graphic cards related update problems, that the computer thinks it's looking at more than one monitor, hence the black screen. -
Alright
I did a fresh install on my windows 10 and here's how i got my sound blaster cinema working.
Download the realtek audio and sound blaster cinema driver from the msi site. I downloaded the drivers for windows 8.1 64bit.
Install realtek, restart comp.
Install sound blaster cinema, restart comp.
Tadah. Done. Hehehe. -
Thanks much, that's what I needed.... Of course it would be a "fresh install" issue.
I normally do that cause updates always cause problems, but I used a "special" key to activate my 8.1 cause the computer place don't give you a disk or key, etc. and I wasn't able to create a restore disk for some reason, so I got screwed. Anyway, could you tell me how you dealt with that? Did you just use your 8 or 8.1 key for the fresh install? Thanks again.
Oh, forgot one thing.... It's my understanding that Windows 10 Update will "overwrite" some drivers like I think the Realtek sound driver. Did yours do that and you have no problems, or did you force that driver to not be allowed to be updated?Last edited: Oct 3, 2015
