Weird, I do need to flash my bios to do that though?

    nvm, I can't read.

Just did the same, gonna test and see if it works any better. Though I think I should still get it sent for repair. Just to be safe.

Haha, well at least I didn't have to play for hours, 15 minutes was enough on aggressive.rw and it shut down again. Checking the logs to see my temps at that time.

I have been playing the new tomb raider game since my post around 9:30-10:00am? No issues so far? What the hell? How would the fan setting fix this issue? How would they get messed up? Well worse case, I got the RMA info if I need to send it in anyway so we'll see huh? I'm amazed right now....

Glad that's sorted for you, I too have been playing the new Tomb Raider a week or so ago. I kind of am fond of it.
Sadly though, this fix did not work for me. Still trying to find my purchase order so I could RMA this thing...

Oh trust me, I'm not holding my breathe just yet. I have been through hell with this thing the past month and a half. I would go 24hrs no issue, then I'd get 2 reboots in 1 day, then I'd be good for days, get multiple reboots within minuts, then be ok for 12hrs, get 1 reboot, then be ok for a week, get 1 reboot lol It has not been fun. I had to atleast try the fan thing, but I'm worried it will happen again in a week and I'll be back to the point of having to wait for it to get worse again before I send it lol

i know what you mean, intermittent problems are the pits, plus you have to ship the thing and wait, and who knows if they'll find the problem.

if you do ship it, make it easy for them to find it, reset your fan profile to normal and tell them the best way to get a shutdown if you can.

well I'm gonna test till saturday, if I have no issues I'm going to set it back to default and see what happens. I mean, wouldn't the stock fan profile causing reboots be an issue? what would be the cause? I'm happy its working now but being FORCED to change something from stock settings to work properly is an issue is it not?

i know what you mean, i have to set my keyboard speed each time i press the function key, i keep meaning to rma it but what for? i've already took it out enough times to know how to put it back together, they should just mail me one and be done with this annoyance.

And this fan problem, seriously when is msi gonna get a design expert on this? i think they need to set up a special rma line just for fans. i'm not kidding, just this thread alone you have atleast 7 or 8 ppl who have had fan problems in the last year alone. Search the thread, its all there.

idk if its standard putting a button to make the fan go 100miles an hour, it just seems like they gave up trying to auto-regulate. Sure its a usefull feature and i use it all the time, everyday, when the fan keeps going all the time and the temps don't come down i press it and makes it go down 10c very fast, but it's a pita to monitor it myself and not have the fan stop by itself.

And right now i'm not using my fan slowdown batch, with the whistle this fan makes all i get is the noise and none of the benefits of silence, if anything the noise is more pronounced because there's no wind to cover it up.

    LOL

i'm loosing patience with this fan problem of mine, i need to nip this thing in the butt asap.

watching an Xotip PC review of laptops, trying to find one i watched last weekend showing a picture of infrared heat sensor and how the heat flows out of their laptop with 3 fans in a laptop.

    here http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=UnUThlPz3iE#t=1641s

Below is one that shows the fans inside a Sager laptop, i think they might be pushing it with 4 fans in it. lol

Good god i can't stand 1 fan, i can't imagine 4 running at top speed. they must be running super slow and still get the same airflow. i want one of those lol

SAGER NP9570 (Clevo P570WM) Unboxing & FULL Review - YouTube

i hope they run much much slower and quieter than only 1 fan.

thanks Xotic Pc very thorough review, hope there's more. i'm subscribing to your channel.

Oh well, due to other problems I can't send it back to the reseller for their repair. Will have to fix it myself, either that or I'll have a glorified power rig not capable of being a glorified power rig.

what other problems? puter related stuff? like you need your laptop for work?

yunno if it does take just 3 weeks to ship and get it back, why not get a cheapo laptop at some store then keep it for the length of the return window (14-30days) and keep returning it until you get your msi back.

That's what i'm preparing to do soon, i'm going on a trip for a week next week, I won't take it with me. its just too heavy to carry with me were i'm going and i won't have time to use it much anyway. i'll just get something cheap at a bestbuy in town to work on when i land and get a refund when i leave.

i've been meaning to get the keyb fixed for a year on this thing lol if only they'd ship me one, and there's the fan problem. Might as well put that down time to good use. idk if they' d put in a 3rd antenna for my 1103 while they're at it, and take care of that damn muffled mic problem while the screen is open.

its all little things but they insist on doing it themselves cuz of the warranty. i can get a keyb from gentech for 75$ but that seems way too expensive. i'll have to check how much shipping to msi would cost me to see if its worth shipping it or buying they keyb myself

anyway that's a slice of my life in the coming weeks.

    lol

Nah, I mean my current financial state won't allow me to get the cheapest of laptops. I just can't send it back, for I'll still have to pay for the currier, which is money I cannot spare. It's purely personal problems. I'll see what can be done about this, for the restarts have become more frequent.

    I'll give it a shot.

Lets see if this works, if not then it might be a problem with supplying power to it. Either that or the motherboard is fried.

The models before the GT60 and GT70 did not have the internal graphics enabled (they do not use optimus/enduro).

I've been using 1761_30HU for about a year with no BSODs.

    How did you Flash....MSIHQ Tool?

After the flash did you turn off and remove the battery for a few minutes?

When you restarted did you enter the bios and reset the proper settings? ei AHCI/Raid/IDE?>Boot Order>Clock>>>then Save and Exit?

After the 30HU flash the bios is set to Raid by default and a drive with Windows installed while in AHCI mode won't boo with Raid bios setting.

Hi, any gpu on Kepler not working with 780GT that means GTX680m, 670MX, 675MX. You can upgrade to GTX675m or AMD HD7970m but its problem to get one with good vbios for MS 1761 :(

Worked fine in my 16F2 but the latest bios revisions for AMD and Nvidia seem to have done some odd things with older models.

    Memtest86 Updated

MemTest86 is a free, thorough, stand alone memory test for x86 architecture computers.

    Version:V4.2.0

    Release date:18th March 2013

    Free download of MemTest86.
    Memtest86 - Download now!

    Release Notes:

Fixed issues with USB keyboards. The USB keyboard functionality is memory mapped into a portion of low memory on some (maybe many) machines, typing on a USB keyboard changes some values in RAM as the key presses are stored in memory as you type. This can cause the keyboard to become unresponsive during testing or input from the keyboard to generate errors in the tests.
Fixed crash when configuring memory ranges. Changing the meory range during the first test, or changing the memory range multiple times during later tests could cause the current test number to become negative, triggering a crash.
Fixed highest error address not reporting correctly on error.
Fixed error counters overflowing and reseting to 0 after too many errors.
    Fixed max contiguous error reporting.
    Cleaned up some UI text.
The Windows USB package now includes ImageUSB to make creating Memtest86 USB drives easier.

Well, just sent off my GT783 for repair, finally. They said will take up to 2 weeks for it to be fixed, but I'm not optimistic about that. They listened to what the problem was and they too think it was a faulty GPU. So To everyone out there who owns a GT783, be wary of the faulty GTX 580M's. That, and the thermal paste job probably was poor. We'll see.

Which MSI Service Center did it go to?

If they no longer have parts available that are needed to repair your still under warranty GT783 then you may very well find your returned notebook to have a GT70 motherboard and GTX67M(X) graphics card.

This has already happened with some GT783 notebooks that have been serviced.

Hello guys! I have a wonderful MSI GT780, i've already sent it back to the manufacturer because of the video card stopped working, when I got it back I got a new video card, the same model of course (NVIDIA GTX 560M)
So I've been thinking about upgrading my laptop to a higher GPU, since I don't have the space for an stationary computer. I wonder if:
1-is it possible to upgrade the video card on my MSI GT780?
2-if it is possible which video cards models are possible to upgrade to? If possible I would like to upgrade to one of the latest graphic cards, a GTX670M or higher.
3-what do I need to modify on my laptop if I want to upgrade? Any modified software or special installation for the upgrade? Or do I just need to change it and I'm good to go?

I've already upgraded my RAM from 6GB to 14GB. Thanks for the help!

I've been trying to go through a couple posts after searching, and I am now still left wondering. I think I have a problem with my comp.

After maybe 3 months of owning a 780dxr, my RAM card(s?) left me hanging. I had to send it in, and I got it fixed. After getting it back though, it just sorta didn't feel the same anymore. Everything felt a bit slower and a bit..worse. And now I have problems while playing a game
(Heroes of Newerth, which has this RECOMMENDED:
    Processor - 2.4GHz Core 2 or i3 / 2.2GHz i5 or i7 / AMD 3500+ or faster
RAM - 2.0+ GB for Win XP / 3.0+ GB for Win 7
    Video Card - 256MB Geforce 7800+ or Radeon X1900+
    OS - 32-bit Windows XP, 64-bit Windows 7
    Network Connection Required (Broadband))

    My specs are:
    i7-2670QM
    570M, 1.5gb
    2x4gb RAM ddr3
    2 x 750 HDD
    Win 7

I went through pretty much all fixes suggested in the HoN-forums. And I still get huge FPS drops in teamfights (part of the game where a lot of stuff happens on screen). This never used to happen before, but now it does. (Used to happen on an old Acer, but ThrottleStop fixed that) I also have issues in NBA 2K13, usually at start of quarters while playing, it lags, the fps drop, and after a while they increase.

I tried HWMonitor to see my temps, and while playing it's at about 85-95C for the 570M, and the core-temps of the i7 are all about 85-90C. If I don't even play, and just run the game (menu) it's still at about 85-90C on both. Is this high? Very? Maybe I need to clean it? I saw some guides here, but I don't have compressed air, and everything is closed now since it's easter. Any alternative to comp.air? Just good old blowing? My idle temp with only browser running is 55-65 for GPU and 60-65 for CPU. Is that ok? Anyone have any suggestions for what could be the problem? I think the laptop DOES get warmer than it used to. But I haven't cleaned it for 14 months, maybe it got cleaned when it was getting fixed about 6-7 months ago, but I do not know.

These are really high temps. Maybe the thermal paste is put on bad, perhaps the heatsinks aren't tightened properly. Either that or you need to clean out the dust out of it.

Hmm, ok. Is the thermal paste expensive to get ahold of on my own (and hard to apply?). And is the place where it should be applied + the heatsinks easy to access and something I can fix on my own? I am from Norway btw. And I bought the comp from a webstore.

The thermal paste is quite cheap, accessing the heatsink is easy. There are a few tutorials on how to change the thermal paste on 780. But mind you, this will void the warranty if there is any.

Thanks for the help. This thread is full of how to's, and I love it :D. I'm not sure really, what voids it? I am in Europe, so I don't know if I have the full msi warranty? I have already sent it in on warranty once (the webshops warranty), and they broke the "breaking this voids the warranty"-sticker, without putting on a new one. So if it's about that then I 'm good. Unless there is something else in there by what they can detect me "breaching" it by?

Regardless if you're in Europe, which is the same case with me, the reseller who sold you the laptop generally provides you with a warranty for a year or two or whatever thy offer. Usually you should have your warranty papers etc. Also the warranty seal can be located at the back of the laptop.
Also opening the laptop yourself would void warranty in most cases.

Now 90 C is quite high temps. I get 75 C GPU and 70 - 80 C CPU on my GT783, which is more or less the same thing only with an upgraded CPU and GPU. The difference between these is quite minimal as I am aware.

On idle I'd reckon you should get aroun 40 - 50 C CPU max, as well as around 45 C on you GPU.
At least that's what I've been getting.

Also, if you are going to change the thermal paste on your CPU and GPU make sure you follow the guide very thoroughly, for if you do a bad pasting job you might be back to square one, no progress. Also if you read the first page of this topic you should be able to see what recommended thermal paste is best to use.
