Does the GT780R and GT780 have Sata 3 or Sata 2??
I have looked everywhere on the internet without luck to finding it (googled, forum search and everything, nothing found) -
It supports SATA 3.
-
Made me confused when a reseller told me that it is Sata 2
and thinkin' that it has HM67 express -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
All laptops using the Sandy Bridge processors (i7-2xx0) have SATA III controllers for Ports 0 and 1, which is where the hard drives are connected. Ports 2 through 5 are SATA II, but that is where your optical drive and eSata port are connected. -
Thank you very much.
Now I know it.
a reseller that told me that it is Sata 2, is completely wrong... must tell them tomorrow.
Must get this Laptop to my birthday -

You are most welcome. We will be happy to serve you should you choose to select PowerNotebooks.com.
-
Thx for the support and I will consider buying from there
-
Do more than consider... do or do not. There is no consider.
-
I checked the prices there, it is nice, I will buy Notebook from there
-
I'm not sure if i can do this, but great experiance with Ken and ordering my laptop!

Hello,
Do you know of any work around for the external HDD part ?
I have ~10 Western Digital HDD books plugged in USB through an USB HUB and everytime I boot I have to hit F11 and select the Intel0 option. That or plug in the USB during the Windows loading.
I'm also the owner of a G73-SW that will just boot with all drives connected and while I tend to prefer MSI (because I have had an amazing 4 years experience with a previous laptop) this is quite annoying.
I have tried going into the bios and setting Intel0 as the primary boot device with everything else disabled but as you said it keeps trying to boot from one of the HDD either way.
Any help on this would be really appreciated. -
This is truly a beautiful laptop for shure. Here is what the designers used as inspiration when they designed the GT780R
-
And to those complaining about the ratings at newegg. Look at amazon. 6 reviews so far and very nice rating.

No workaround for now, try reporting the issue to MSI and they'll probably release a BIOS update.
-
Yes, this is the only way this issue will be resolved.
-
Already reported to MSI and I think this will be a easy fix via BIOS update.
-
I saw this price for the future GT780DXR: 1700E for the same config that the GT780-54US minus 8Go Ram plus of course the 570m (1.5Go)
MSI GT780DXR-218 - Achat / vente pc portable sur Templeinformatique
It's only 50E more than the GT780r version (in europe laptop seem to be very expensive
)
So it looks like that the GT780DXR could be around 1800-2000$ in North America... it sounds good to me. I am waiting for their release! -
unfortunately yes -.-
the cheapest gt780 in germany costs 1499 ~= 2154$
the most expensive gt780 costs 1999 ~= 2873$
so yes, it is very expensive >.< -
The typing on the keyboard is perfect. It is not sticking to the laptop body perfectly, but I have a very strong feeling that it is the job of the people at the customs office. The backlighting is overall even, but the right alt and ctrl keys are just a tad brighter. The only problem so far is that when the laptops turns on the color is automatically set to white and I have to restart the KLM app in order to gain access to different colors of the keyboard, otherwise the LEDs just ignore me. I think that this is just a software issue that will be resolved in future updates. Overall, I could not be more impressed by this amazing machine.
-
Funny, here in brazil the same laptop costs 5490 BRL ~= 3583 USD
You still think european prices are that expensive now?
Kidding, but the reality in brazil is sad
-
my keyboard is also not sticking poroperly ,specially below arrow keys

Mine as well, Just never got around to brinigng it up.
-
Can someone explain to me why the GT780DXR is going to have half the RAM?
-
Because nobody needs 16GB RAM
-
Because more people need a faster graphics card than need >8GB RAM. You can always add the other RAM. The slots are not going away, they are just either empty or full of smaller chips.
Homer -
According to the site, it's using 2 dimms (4x2). Which is perfect for upgrades. I really hope they've improved the keyboard by then. Still need to replace my aging Gateway FX.
-
+1, suprised my Gateway has lasted this long. Only nice part about having excessive amounts of memory is being able to turn your pagefile off.
-
Sigh... this again...
I have two virtual machines running, each with 4GB of memory allocated. This leave 8MB for the main machine.
Sorry, but an experienced user can and will make the most of 16GB of memory available. *YOU* may not need it, but *YOU* don't speak for anyone but yourself. -
Same here. I'll upping to 16GB and turning off the pagefile. Should be very fast. -
You got this totally wrong mr. *YOU* may need it, but I speak for everyone else. And 8GB is not enough? I`m sorry but for 99.9% of all notebook users 16GB is major overkill. So yeah, using "everyone" is not so wrong.

Yeah I would leave the pagefile alone too.
-
I want to remove the keyboard, in order to put some tape under it, to stop it from unsticking itself. Does anybody know how to remove the keyboard without damaging anything?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Carefully pop the power strip off starting at the right or left side (where the on/off and touch sensitive buttons are). Don't lift it too far up because you will pull the cables loose.
Then you will see 5 small screws holding the top of the keyboard. Remove those, and be equally careful about lifting it so that you don't pull the cables out. -
Hi guys, I've been lurking the thread for several weeks. I bought a GT780R from Gentechpc. Just got it in today. Keyboard is very impressive! Everything works like it should so far (I've only had it for a few hours though), except the computer is not recognizing the webcam. Is there something i have to do like install a driver? Other than that the whole experience with Ken and Gentechpc has been wonderful and the laptop is great. Highly recommend the laptop and Gentechpc to anyone.

Use your drivers CD. Go to Utilities and install Simple Camera. It is what is says it is...Simple. If you want more, you will have to get your own camera software.
-
Sorry for being a nube, but do I need to install everything on the CD? And thanks for the fast reply BTW!
-
Try Fn+F6.

Macon, Ga., eh? Warner Robins here!
Congratz on that new toy! Enjoy & Welcome to the Party!
As far as the webcam, it uses a native WIN 7 driver, so no other driver is needed. Don't forget to turn the webcam on from the control bar. Also you will need to install software optimized for HD webcams...... a few suggestions can be found HERE!
The software Donald is suggesting, Simple Camera, is free, but in my view is total crap, and not worth the install.
No, everything you need should already be installed. There is a beta graphics card driver you can download for increased performance, found HERE!
ENJOY!
-
Ahh! thanks! that was it. Then EVERYTHING about the computer is GREAT so far. I think the tape worked Ken!
On a side note how do I get a signature? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No, just Simple Camera. Do you see a shortcut icon on your desktop that says Simple Camera? It doesn't come installed by MSI, so unless GenTech installed it you will have to from your CD. Then make sure it is turned on (Fn+F6). -
Does this computer have multi touch? I thought I read that somewhere but I haven't figured that out yet. Cool that we are from basically the same location!

In the upper left-hand corner of this forum page, click ' UserCP' (User Control Panel), and from there, click ' Edit Signiture'..... then create and ' Save' your new Sig.
Also, you will need at least 5 post for the signiture system to become available..... info HERE!
Download the GT780R Manual HERE! The information you seek is on pages 82 - 84.
-
My computer does not have the icon referred to on page 82 of the manual
-

Well, presently I do not have one of these units (awaiting GT780DXR release), so I can not check the System Tray icon for you. Maybe another user can confirm this icon, but nonetheless, the user manual should provide the info you need for gestures. Unfortunately, the Sentelic touchpad is not as fully featured as the Synaptics touchpads. Perhaps this will improve with future driver updates. Either way, I prefer a good wireless mouse over the touchpad...... never use touchpads.
-
Make sure you have touchpad driver installed and the icon is on the system tray.
If you can't find it you can still go to control panel> mouse > device settings tab and click settings button.
But there isn't really any settings need to be change as long as the touchpad driver is installed, you can just test it with two fingers to zoom in/out by open a picture in Windows photo viewer, or Adobe Acrobat reader works too. -
The best I can tell only the windows driver is installed. I am running MSI Live Update 5 to see if there is anything not on the computer or outdated.
-
Alright, I followed a link in the first post to a touchpad driver. Installed that and now I have the icon and it all works! Its weird that it didnt come with it.
