Yeah Eurocom has pretty much had the laptop on 10% sale since december last year non-stop without fail. They should just lower the price period, lol.UsmanKhan likes this. -

So I had a nice surprise cleaning up some junk in the basement and found out that I must have ordered a U3 Plus awhile back for my old laptop and never used it. For those with the U3 Plus that are modified, will a single zalman fanmate 2 controller work with a splitter for 3 fans or will they draw too much current at max pwr? In other words, does each fan need their own controller or will one suffice for all 3?

That one doesn't have much for power. I went with a four channel Kingwin FPX-001. I also am using Coolerguys 4 pin Molex power supply. I saw this set up on @Mr. Fox's video.UsmanKhan, Mr. Fox and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

I went for the noctua fans. They move about 150 cfm per fan. Plus they have a 150000 hour life expectancy and a 6 year warranty.

My new fan controller. Lamptron CF525. I shouldn't have any power limitations and I may be able to add a few more fans to the mix. I am still unsure where I'm going to place it on the U3.

Hey guys I should be getting my system in the next week or so .. is there a laptop cooler you recommend. I'm trying to keep my system quiet. Gonna run it at 4.5 with and under volt.

A good portion of us are using a modified U3 cooler pad. Whether you plan to overclock or not, it's a great investment to your already large PC investment.

Does it need to be modified?

It definitely helps.
My max temps dropped between 5-10 C. My average temps have always been pretty good, but they are around 4-8 C better. -
I'm sure it will help keep the noise down.. are you guys just replacing the fans ?

I don't care about noise. The speakers are plenty loud and I want this thing to dispense ice cubes. Yes, I replaced my fans.

I just ordered one ! Thanks for the advice and recommended fans ?

Vardar are powerful and reasonably quiet. If you don't want loud you aren't going to get very much air flow. You may as well stick to the stock U3 fans. I went with Noctua.
You could purchase a fan speed controller to keep the fans quiet, then boost them as needed.UsmanKhan, Rage Set, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

The used F5 I purchased off @win32asmguy was delivered today! It came in pristine condition, with all the original packaging and materials and he went through the trouble of thoroughly benchmark + stress testing it before it was shipped out. He was a great person to work with and had fantastic attitude, I really appreciated it.
I took the back panel off and stuck in my m.2 and 2.5 ssd (interesting caddy btw). Plugged into power brick and booted right up in seconds. After spending about 15 min installing drivers, installed CPUID HWPRO and ran FS, and SD.
That was on auto fan with G-SYNC off. With G-SYNC on, the frames will lock at 59~60fps throughout the entire benchmark, which was nice to see. Played few hours of FF14, Tera Online and Nier at max settings and lets just say I'm extremely happy with the performance so far. This is all on delidded 6700K and GTX 1070, so this is making me even more excited for the HIDevolution's laptop to arrive.UsmanKhan, Prema, win32asmguy and 4 others like this. -

I believe @Mr. Fox and @Papusan have a video or a breakdown of what they did to their U3's. I was fortunate to acquire mine from Mr. Fox, so all of the work was done for me. I have upgraded the fans and fan controller from the ones he used originally. Ha! You don't want to use the current fans I'm using if you want quiet.....As you can see it's an inside joke amongst us.
Edit: Any 120mm fans will do over the crap they use from the factory on the U3, but you can always try the stock fans on the cooler to see if they make any difference to your liking. -
Thanks for the info !! I think I'll ordered a few fans see what I can find that quite and still pushes air .

See the links in this post for what I am using. It has more than enough power, reasonably priced and small enough to fit without taking up space where you need fans. The fan controller like I have on one of my U3 coolers and the one @Rage Set has seem to have vanished. I haven't been able to find them for sale anymore, but I like the updated version I am using on the cooler with Vardar fans better anyway.

Cool, congrats on new laptop! You can definitely undervolt that CPU for a start if you want cooler temperatures - the 6700K I run in my desktop can run at 4.5Ghz at 1.28V, and I see from your screenshot that you're at 1.3V max, so you can either undervolt or overclock as you see fit, or a little combination of both!
And that's a GTX 1070 in there right? Performing fine for GTX 1070.Donald@Paladin44 and UsmanKhan like this. -
It can be spikes up to 1.3V. Load voltage counts. The voltage control isn't equal good on the notebook MBUsmanKhan and Donald@Paladin44 like this.

So you're getting his-and-hers machines for yourself and your spouse? Awesome! My wife and I did the same thing s few years ago with our (then-current) Thinkpad W700 laptops. This past year, she opted for a Clevo from System76, whereas I got the EVOC 16L-G-1080 from HID Evolution. She wanted something a little slimmer and lighter and didn't need the GPU power (her machine has a 1070 GPU) or SSD expansion. It was his-and-hers machines, just not identical this time.Donald@Paladin44, mizerab1e and Mr. Fox like this. -

For anyone interested in a rolling work table that works well with this laptop, here is what I built. I built it in 2015, but it's working nicely with the new EVOC.
The table is from Balt's WOW series, with the addition of a monitor arm from the same product line. I have made two modifications to the table:
- I detached the work surface from its supporting bracket (just a few wood screws) and offset it a few centimeters to the left. I am right-eye-dominant and prefer to have the secondary monitor toward my stronger eye. The EVOC laptop is heavy enough to very slightly (maybe 2 degrees) sag the table, but not enough to be a problem. It would not sag at all if I were using the table as designed (laptop centered), but I wanted to be able to look over my laptop screen to see the television across the room.
- I drilled and tapped a hole below the collar where the work table arm encircles and clamps to the vertical column. A screw in that hole allows the work table arm to be freely rotated without gradually working its way down the column. The clamp is quite sturdy, and I don't want to give the impression it slides down a lot, but over a long period it does work its way down if you rotate the arm a lot (which I do). I drilled and tapped the hole "because I can", at my favorite working height.
One of the things I like about this table is that the vertical column has openings so you can route cables through it. I secured a matching black outlet strip to the base of the cart. A spare 330W power brick is also secured to the base, with its low voltage cord routed through the column alongside a gigabit Ethernet cable. As you can see from the first photo, my workspace is uncluttered by cables, and there's lots of room for a mouse to the right of the laptop.
Although I happen to be right-handed and right-eye-dominant, all of the components I've used are symmetrical, so one could easily make a left-handed version of this project.
(Thanks to my lovely wife for snapping the third photo.)Donald@Paladin44, UsmanKhan, Mr. Fox and 2 others like this. - I detached the work surface from its supporting bracket (just a few wood screws) and offset it a few centimeters to the left. Thanks for the feedback! It is completely stock and nothing done to it, just wanted to establish a baseline before I start messing around with it. However, I'll most likely leave this laptop untouched as possible since I'm 100% satisfied with its performance and confident wife will be happy with it. Happy wife, happy life, you know how it is.

Can anyone explain the whole deal with vBIOS and how important it is for this laptop? I looks like this laptop is running 86.04.2b.00.14 and there is 86.04.5B.00.8A that is passed around in other threads, would appreciate it if someone was kind enough to explain if its necessary.

Sorry to bother everybody, but I'm not too good with my system and I was hoping someone would be able to help me here (I combed through a bit of the 6xx page thread but couldn't really find an answer).
I recently ordered the Eurocom Tornado F5 with a GTX 1070, i7-7700, and the standard 230W power supply. Anytime I try to run a game, my computer immediately crashes with varying colours and reboots to the login screen for windows. I've updated my nvidia drivers to the latest ones that I know of (382.55), and I also tried significantly underclocking the GPU with MSI afterburner to no avail. The 3DMark demo seems to run without issue though.
Any ideas on how I should proceed? I've sent in a support request but I was hoping to draw on people's experience if they have any to solve this issue. Thanks in advance. -
Ha ha ha, nope! Sorry was just looking in the wrong folder here:
86.04.2b.00.14 is shipping vBIOS version
86.04.5B.00.8A is newer vBIOS with raised raised 3D clocks
Actual ASIC (RL) Boost clocks are identical, so difference caused by raised 3D base clocks is mostly for optical appearance, but it may run hotter due to not down-clocking as much.
There is also the even newer 86.04.5B.00.82, which was crippled by MSI (massive downclock) to get weaker cards stable without having to recall them. So stay away from that if your system is stable as it is.Last edited: May 22, 2017Huniken, Donald@Paladin44, Rage Set and 8 others like this. -

Very interesting information. My Tornado F5 shipped with the 86.04.2b.00.14 bios, but would periodically drop out of games while playing. After updating to 86.04.5b.00.8a it fixed that issue. Sorry to hear that is happening. Today is a national holiday in Canada, so you probably will not get a reply until tomorrow.

Hahaha, now? I know what you mean, and I'm joking, but this guy has been killing benchmarks on a restricted BIOS and has only had little time with his machine set free.Donald@Paladin44, Rage Set, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
Thank you - having firmware that does not emasculate performance helps a ton.
Not that I know of.
And, the BIOS still is not 100% cancer-free. MSI still has some seriously nasty CPU TDP throttling demons lurking in the shadows that @Prema is hunting down. That is why you are only seeing 5.0GHz 3DMark runs from me and no Cinebench runs over 4.8Ghz. MSI really screwed things up badly and it's taking a lot of effort to find and kill the cancer cells.Last edited: May 22, 2017Huniken, UsmanKhan, Donald@Paladin44 and 2 others like this. -
I just noticed the brightness adjustment hotkeys are working on my laptop with my 120hz screen now. When I first built the laptop they did not work and I moved to Svet's bios about a month ago. I never tried it out until today, but i can confirm it adjusts the brightness now as intended. Not sure if something else was updated via Windows update that corrected it.
