I returned my first GE63VR because the screen developed a line of dead pixels in 24 hours. Second unit has been perfect since.

Do exchange right away if you find any problems because no one wants to end up with a system that has issues which you paid with your hard-earned money.

My GE63VR charger is wonky, I want to play on the safe side but I cannot find this thing available for purchase anywhere?
Does anyone know where to buy a new charger?? -

Try requesting RMA for charger, buy a new one then return it when yours comes back.

What kind of issues are you having with it? And how long have you had the system for? It is covered under a 6-month warranty.

Hey guys,
So after lots of hassle with my laptop (ge63vr 7rf), ive finally got it back from the service center. the laptop LED issue was indeed a hardware fault.
Has anyone noticed the HDD making a noise when u tilt the laptop left or right? i notified the tech guy and he screwed up my entire laptop trying to get that fixed. (installed wrong recovery(i had completely wrong drivers that didn't work with my hardware) , replaced my WiFi chip and didn't even notify me until i manually checked and yelled at him. apparently he "forgot" to mention it when i clearly asked him why killer WiFi software wasn't working). Anyways the new HDD still has that noise issue, but its lesser than the old one. From what i know HDD's shouldn't make any noise at all.
More importantly ever since i got my laptop back , the CPU temps have gotten very high. GPU stays good at 75* but my CPU seems to go 90+ (this is with undervolting -0.100) when i'm playing games. It also seems to be very jumpy , like it'll jump from 40-60 in a second and drop, didn't have this issue before. Could anyone help me figure out what could be the issue?
Really disappointed with their "official service". I got my laptop back in a worse state than i gave it. the back sticker(where the serial number is) is all worn out like its a year old laptop. My i7 sticker in front came out, it was like someone pulled it out and put it back.
The only reason i had some things sorted was cause i had to go to the service center directly and get him to do it in front of me and "magically" the recovery worked properly , the old WiFi chip worked too.Last edited: Mar 17, 2018 -

What service center are you talking about? -
Oh i had given it to the MSI Official service center here in UAE.
-
MSI service centers suck is the vibe and story I’ve heard tome and time again. I constantly hear the same story and it usually goes like this. It took forever to get the laptop back, still not fixed or fixed properly and the laptop is always returned banged and beat up. Bottom line it’s bad. I will never send my laptop to them for service after the stories I’ve read hear or on reddit over the years.
Next time either return the faulty laptop or fix it yourself. Never send it to them for smallish issues like noises hard drives or broken WiFi cards. Better to repair that yourself. -
Hey guys just want to be absolutely certain that if I buy this 144hz monitor:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-x...:2&gclid=CJCFgL-z_NkCFdmzswod9DoByg&gclsrc=ds which at bestbuy actually looks like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF270H-...ie=UTF8&qid=1521598860&sr=8-1&keywords=XF270H will I be able to hook it up to a ge73vr through mini dp to dp and get 144 hz at 1080p?Last edited: Mar 20, 2018 -

Hi , I posted this in the MSI Rep thread also , Just want to give it a shot here too . I have a question,
What is the difference between this panel and a Rev. C1 ? they both have the same part number and maker only difference is the Rev. C1 and Rev. C2. Reason I ask is because i bought a replacement (c2 version ) to replace the broken screen (c1) But the screen doesn't work properly(dim faint screen) Would that make a difference?Attached Files:

Well I got an MSI GE63VR 7RE(Raider)-013XFP, this week after *zapping* my GE62VR 7RF Apache Pro with static electricity whilst trying to do a repaste
. Over the Moon with it, performs better than the 62 although similar in spec(thinner Lighter better cooling)
Need to speak to MSI about repairs. Not looking forward to the bill for a new mobo even though it is still in warranty.
Was much amused to find that BOTH the 1TB HDD and 256 MB M2 were completely blank. First time I tried to boot went straight to bios.... Just as well I had a spare M2 with semi-working OS to Repair/Reinstall from, and there are 2 slots instead of one hehe..
Screen is lovely but not getting used much atm as I work on a desk with 2 external monitors. If I open the lid, I obscure my view lol.
Obviously I transferred parts I already had such as:
Intel 8265 Wireless
16GB DDR4 (came with 8)
Samsung SM961 NVME
Seagate Firecuda 2TB
DVDRW in usb enclosure
Very Pleased so far. -
Enjoy your new beast! Hitting 8 months with mine, still pleased as ever.

This is a tough one . Does anyone know how to turn on the usb lighting without installing dragon center?
Last edited: Apr 4, 2018 -
Those settings are located in the dragon center app.
-
I have no idea why I wrote afterburner! Very embarrassing
I meant to say dragon center. I think there might be a way to activate a flag to turn the usb lights on without dragon center -
I'm not sure , but dragon center is very useful. why you don't want to install it? it makes life so much easier doing things like that and it monitor your cpu and gpu
-
Dragon center can be a resource hog and also interferes with my custom voltage/frequency curve. Why would I want to overclock 200mhz when the voltage is so high I will tdp throttle to lower clocks anyway.
-
i got you , well you can always install turn them off and uninstall , or check hardware ID.
-
MSI categorizes their laptop tiers from lowest to highest as: GE --> GS --> GT. GS is technically higher tier because you get same specs as GE, but thinner chassis. There are also configurations with Thunderbolt 3 for GS.Vistar Shook likes this.

yeah, i ' m very disappointing that MSI not bring thunderbolt 3 on GE63VR 8RE/8RF.
i think my candidates for now is ROG GL503GS with 8750 +1070 + 144hz IPS G-sync + TB3.Kevin@GenTechPC and hmscott like this. -
Hey everyone. I'm about to purchase a ge73vr. It's a stock version from a local retailer so no fancy clean windows install like HID might provide.
With that in mind, is there a list of things I should do once I open it? I remember flashing my bios on my old laptop. I seem to recall something about the vBios as well. It's been a while. A step-by-step list would be really helpful but any advice would be much appreciated.
Also, apologies if this has been asked and answered already, didn't feel like sifting through 138 pages. -
It wouldn't be so long if every time someone needed some answers they used the search bar and some keywords instead of being lazy and asking for another several posts to clutter the thread.
Google 'how to check bios/firmware version' to see which versions you're running. Download BIOS and EC firmware, they have instructions in them how to install.
Google 'clean install windows 10', use Windows Media Creation Tool to reinstall Windows 10. Go to MSI website, look for ge73vr, download drivers and install them if they haven't been updated already by Windows update. Go to Device Manager to see driver versions for appropriate hardware. Graphics driver don't bother with GeForce Experience, just download the drivers only from Nvidia website, I think the latest version hasn't presented issues. For Utilities, Dragon Center, Nahimic, SS Keyboard, and SCM are probably the core ones you can find good use for.
Search the thread or Google for 'stuttering', 'micostuttering', or 'TrayPwrD3' if you get stuttering issues after a Windows 10 update. This isn't specific to MSI laptops, many gaming laptops have this problem and it's well documented on the web. TrayPwrD3.exe is probably most simple (temporary) fix right now for it. It's a program that keeps the dedicated GPU (dGPU) minimally active. You can set a Task to have it run every time you boot up. This is also documented online.
These are some basics. Try to Google stuff and learn something new.Last edited: Apr 6, 2018Sinbuster likes this. -
Thanks bbot3k. I just needed a starting place which you provided rather well. It can get overwhelming digging through forums for advice.

Flash the latest bios from your support page - there are a few versions so make sure you have the page for YOUR specific laptop.
Also Flash the Latest E.C Firmware, again from the support page.
Flash the Intel Management engine patch - also from the support page.
Follow the guide here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/nbr-windows-10-clean-installation-guide.781178/
Yes I am saying you should wipe and start again without the bloat. All the relevant drivers etc are downloadable, so dont worry about losing anything on a brand new laptop. It makes a huge difference.Sinbuster likes this. -

Cheers @ Kevin@GenTechPC. Here's one: Does it make a difference if I flash things before or after the clean install? I assumed reinstalling the OS would default everything.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It does not, but it's still recommended to update BIOS/EC to the latest version once you have it. -
@Kevin@GenTechPC how well this new 8750h in the GE63/73-8RE handle the heat compare to 7700HQ with stock paste. ?

for the multicore, yes. its good and worthed to upgrade from 7700hq. but from the temperature side ? i dont think that article can answear my question, how ? because every laptop has their "own" cooling design and behavior, thats why i m asking @Kevin@GenTechPC , coz he already test the 17 inch version, i want to know the ge63 8RE performance especially on the temperature departement.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this.

Ok, I'm back again. I managed to flash the bios and the EC Firmware. Before I dive into reinstalling the OS, I have a couple concerns:
1. Minor concern I suppose but the keyboard isn't matching the colours I set. On a steady light blue the number pad keys along with a few others are more green than blue. My preferred colour is all white but that ends up being a purplish colour which is rather odd. Not game-breaking but annoying.
2. This issue is more concerning to me. My cpu fan is fluctuating in speeds even at a low idle. I've included a quote from Xardas who summed it up nicely.
I don't know if this was a specific issue targeted in the latest Firmware update but MSI specifically mentions fan issues with regards to Dragon Center. Step 8 of the Instructions PDF provides a batch file to correct the fan profile. I've tried it to no effect. I did download Dragon Center but it was because of the fan fluctuations not the cause.
Have others experienced this? How concerned should I be? Frankly, it's a big deal for me. I don't understand why it won't keep a steady rpm. More importantly, I can't seem to find any software that would allow me to do this. The advanced options in Dragon Center aren't very fine-tuned. I guess Speedfan doesn't work on new MSI boards? I ran it but the fan specs weren't showing at all. -
Any GE73VR owner here can tell me whats your fan RPM in dragon centre with cooler boost for both CPU and GPU? thanks
-
I remember mine being something like ~5400 RPM each fan with CoolerBoost (max fan speed).
-
Yes it was around 5400-5500 before the new BIOS. After the new BIOS it was little big higher, i forgot how much. Can you please check yours?
-
5454 and 5333 here on my machine having just pressed coolerboost button.... (machine in sig)
-
I have latest BIOS and EC Firmware. I don't think my RPMs have changed.
CPU: 5274 RPM
GPU: 5393, occasionally 5474.
Now time to uninstall Dragon Center. -
Thanks
-
I had the .105 bios in my hardisk which i later deleted. I read the release/change note. And it stated fan curve adjustment. Please get back to me and see if uninstalling dragon centre change your RPM.
-
Lol this may be hilarious, but I forgot how to check laptop fan speeds. They are not registering in SpeedFan or HWMonitor for me. What else are you using?
-
Dragon centre
