If you remove a gpu the hardware id for the other gpu will change, meaning that you will have to do an inf mod to install the driver for the single 1070 or 1080.

11AE changes to 11BE meaning the inf mod only needs a character change. I can give you the drivers if you wish.

This is the MXM GPU you have to take out:

The one highlighted in the red square is the secondary GPU (slave)

When you will remove the card from the MXM slot you will see GPU_2 written in small writing on the motherboard underneath.

So I'm guessing the heat pipes and that fan will be removed along with the GPU. How hard is it to install the new drivers I personally think this laptop is overkill with SLI and some of the games I played don't support it so.

1070 SLI but I just got it in today and I'm not really sure about keeping it or not the dumbass on the FedEx truck dropped it. Damage the outer casing a little bit. So I'm not completely sure what I'm going to do.. seems to be working still but always worried something going to be wrong with it

Same happened to me, the ups driver dropped my gt83vr from so high that one of the power bricks was shattered into pieces and the side of the gt83vr was damaged as well as the screen being cracked. I was so pissed you don’t understand. The palmrest and lid were bent out of shape on the side. Got a partial refund though, ups opened the parcel and obviously tried to make amends with parcel tape (idiots).

Seems like these drivers need to go to the gym, weak af can’t even lift a 5kg laptop properly!

Well it seems like everything works as it should screens okay so I think I'll keep it I got it for a really really good deal the reason I want to take one video card out sell it on eBay LOL it broke the back fin and piece of plastic where the fan comes out but everything looks to be okay and there's some extra scratches on it so yeah looks like I'll be keeping it the piece that's broken is like $100 piece or at least that's about the going price on eBay right now.

ooof....yeah that always sucks. Was the package insured at all? I would highly suggest filing a claim with Fedex.

Partial claim is already been put in laptop seems to be working good. Sli seems work good in some of the games. But I still don't think it's worth having sell one of the gpus on eBay would help to recoup some money

Hi, im bringing back this thread because i have the same laptop with SLI 1070s. I do not have dual 230W charger anymore, just the 330W single, so i would like to remove on GTX 1070. So if i remove the slave gpu, how can i make the laptop to work with a single 1070?Is any bios modding required?Does the heatsink have to be removed as well?

The system should still work with a single GPU but there's a primary slot that provides display to your monitor. So if there's no display then swap GPU out between slots and see how it goes.

But DaMafiaGamer mentioned this: If you remove a gpu the hardware id for the other gpu will change, meaning that you will have to do an inf mod to install the driver for the single 1070 or 1080.
So i am wondering whether i will need to edit anything or i can just take one GPU out and it will work fine?

I see, it doesn't hurt to try it yourself, just proceed with caution since these components are fragile.
