@Rage Set and @D2 Ultima - new BPX has the same issue as the old one, but not as severe. But, I finally found the source of the problem...
![]()
...if this piece of crap is switched on, I have the issue with transparent windows, transparent right-click menus, drop down menus that are clear without text and Start menu being white with no icons or text or clear with nothing but my user picture at the top, desktop icons not working (won't launch anything), etc. These problems only occur after launching any UWP game filth from Windows Store. A log-off or reboot is required to fix it. If I disable the Game Bar gimmick, the problem is completely gone. If I turn Game Bar back on, the problem returns.
So, it appears to be some kind of issue with the Game Bar overlay or DVR not playing nice with DWM or it goofs up the desktop I/O. It only happens with Windows 10 on the BPX NVMe SSD.

So in the case of a GPU it is different....than a CPU. Isn't the GPU going to melt to molten lava with more voltage which means more heat? the heat, how hot the GPU was in your benchmark?

Yes, overheating can and does kill GPUs. They are fragile and cannot stand much abuse. I do all of my overclocked benching on AC. The GPU was about 50°C.
-
Ok, good to know though. Will strike it from my rec list. Game bar on/off does not affect my 850 pro nor your 960 so the bpx is faulty until fixed

To be totally honest, I have no idea. I have never measured it. With 7700k and 1080 running stock game experience is always good for me and I never felt a need to look or compare before vs after for playing games. When you have powerful components to begin with there is never really a need to overclock to play games. An extra 5 to 10 FPS only matters when you are struggling with something like 30 to 40 FPS due to weak hardware or a poorly coded mess someone called a game.
-
I am going to ask them for a refund or exchange for a 1TB non-NVMe M.2 SSD. I do not care about the Game Bar feature and the only reason I stumbled upon the cause is because it annoys the crap out of me and I went looking for a way to disable that worthless piece of dog excrement. And, to my surprise it made the problem go away. I could actually live with it now except for it would bug me knowing the issue is present even if it no longer affected me. I mean, what if I actually wanted to use that trash feature? Then I would be screwed.Papusan likes this.
-
Yes, exactly. A PC is supposed to have its features there for you to use or not use at will. A SSD is not supposed to screw over an OS by enabling some random feature of said OS. As I did say before, you pay for what you get it seems. A NVMe M.2 MLC NAND drive cheaper in some cases than the 850 EVO TLC SATA III drive? I guess it was simply too good to be true.

Where's the overclocking, guys?
I diverted my attention from the Tornado F5 to give some love to the P870DM3 and come back and find no MSI overclocking samples? C'mon, let's go! Fire 'em up, boys.

All right! Now we're talking. Always love seeing benching action, especially in a benchmark thread.
Edit: What's up with both of you using drivers that are not approved by 3DMark? Not that it matters that much, just curious if there is a problem you guys are having that necessitates use of hotfix drivers instead of "normal" ones. I haven't needed to for a long time. But, I don't update GeForce drivers unless a newer one is (a) required to play a game I want to play and can't using my older drivers; or, (b) I see someone beating one of my benchmarks using a newer driver.Last edited: May 1, 2017Papusan likes this. -
I don't remember which driver I was using, I ran the bench right after receiving the laptop ! Sadly I had to perform an RMA as I had a faulty SSD, so I couldn't really tinker with it... But I'll get it back in a week or so, I hope. Silicon's gonna burn
I'm curious to see the difference between the 6820HK and the 7820HK by the way !Mr. Fox likes this. -
Ah, that might explain it. OEM drivers are almost never WHQL and therefore 3DMark doesn't waste their time burning calories on validating them. The branch numbering is always goofed up on OEM drivers for some reason. I don't care one iota about WHQL. That is meaningless to me, but I do like my benchmark scores to show in search results without having to remove the check mark that excludes "invalid" results.Jzyftw likes this.

@Rage Set Would you be willing to add a 1050 ti category?
If so i'd be more than happy to go ahead and run all those test.
Also my 1050 ti is getting some pretty insane overclocking result imo.
1900 Core clock
4500 Memory Clock
I'm highly surprised i can literally play any game @ 60 fps without a problem, was i just a lucky silicon lotery winner?

Something wicked this way comes. After about a week's worth of laborious toil with Brother @Prema and what seemed to be never-ending snags, it's almost time. And, it's an HIDevolution exclusive...
Side note: the malicious and despicable efforts of MSI to interfere with firmware mods is duly noted. I won't go into details, but will say, "Thank God for Prema Magic" and no wonder everything they sell with MSI branding is a BGA turdbook.Aroc, TBoneSan, leftsenseless and 2 others like this. -

If I can get the CPU to hold clocks long enough I definitely will. The MSI throttle cancer is strong, but so is @Prema. Right now I am lucky to get 5.0GHz to last through the 3DMark Physics test without dropping and killing the score. It needs to be able to hold 5.2GHz from start to finish in order to get there. The GPU is running like a Swiss watch though, so as soon as we get the CPU cancer cured completely it should essentially match the performance of single 1080 in the DM3.

Wow....
I could only imagine if we had better fans in this thing. -
Yup, that would be good. Maybe an extra heat pipe or two would also be good. The people that designed this machine probably never envisioned guys like us taking it to the limits like we do. I'd venture a guess MSI has never actually built or sold a notebook as potent as this before, at least in terms of CPU horsepower. Everything they have sold for the past few years is BGA filth, and before than only a few models available with a mobile Extreme CPU. Probably charting unfamiliar waters for them to even build a machine of this caliber. It's really too sad that they don't step up their game on their branded stuff. It's a shame to have a well built machine dragging a pathetic BGA CPU as a ball and chain.
-
YEAH, Exactly!! Mobile Extreme CPU + 780/880M and all too weak 180w psu with Battery Turbo Boost. A flawed MSI design!! The predecessor for AW's newest modern Hybrid tech. All know how this went.
Rage Set likes this. -
I had forgotten about that. It makes me wonder if this idiotic "feature" is resident on the Tornado F5 and maybe this is causing the CPU to drop clocks... to conserve power and not overtax the battery if it contributes to the overall power demands of the system. Gosh, why do people that design laptops have to be so over-the-top retarded with their bright ideas like this? Just seeing that graphic again makes me mad.
I should see what happens if I totally remove the main battery and run only on AC power. It might be interesting to see if the behavior improves or worsens.Last edited: May 20, 2017 -

WTF! How in the f**k are you producing that kind of score with only 5.0?! You and @Prema have some kind of voodoo going on, hahaha. I mean, does everyone in the Clevo section realize they are getting their butts kicked by a smaller machine, with lesser cooling?
I think it is time for all of us OC'ers to step our game up. I know I have to! I may sell this machine and get a EVOC so I can have those EC's once Prema is finished working his magic.
Those are amazing scores bro.Papusan, Prema, leftsenseless and 1 other person like this. -

Yes, they are seeing the amazing scores. One thing nobody has seen yet is the fully unleashed Clevo beasts. There is still a lot going on silently behind the scenes. More will be revealed in time. The TF5 has an edge on the GPU, but it is only temporary and the playing field has not been leveled yet.

I am pretty amazed by the temperatures, 69°C @ 4.3 GHz ! (With Coolerboost).
