For code 10 errors, it could be motherboard problem, or GPU itself.
However, it can only be confirmed by a MSI repair tech because the root cause can be either one, or both by swapping components.

Since it was not dead on arrival, and also since I never dropped it or anything, do u think that it could be a software problem? sorry I keep asking all these questions. it's just that it was such a bummer that this happened. I had done a lotta research on this laptop and seeing as all the reviews were so good, i decided to lock down on it and thought this would last for a good 5 years atleast. As for warranty, i dont know if there is a chance. It was purchased in Feb 2014 and it was bought in saudi arabia. And right now, i live in India

If it was a software problem it could have already been resolved using MSI Recovery procedure. So it's very likely to be a hardware failure which is either caused by a defective mobo or GPU card.

Your unit might still be under warranty if you got it in the US.
Warranty cover is 2-year from date of purchase, receipt will be needed.

Edited: Solution for my random shutdowns was due to a registry error that was created because of CCleaners registry cleaner. Lesson learned: CCleaner = great for cleaning temporary files, but I wont be using any registry cleaner any time soon.

If I leave my GS70 off (Shut Down) and unplugged for 1 week, the battery drains to 16% ... is this normal? I already did an MSI Battery Calibration 5 months ago and I leave it plugged in almost always.

EDIT: I have discovered that it might be the BIOS i-charger set to ON that drains the battery. (This function allows smartphone charging from a USB port while the system is OFF.) I'll test this next time.

The EC will still consume a little bit of power, so the battery will end up totally drained after awhile.

Any way to fix the terrible space bar button sensitivity so it doesn't have to be smashed to get it to work? Works fine on the left side, but the right side, the side I usually press it with my thumb... it hardly ever works when I'm typing...

The space bar is a known issue. Msi customer service says that the keyboard was designed that way for some reason, which cant be true because my keyboard has never had any problems *knock on wood*. If your having that problem the only thing that you can do is unfortunately replace the keyboard.

Does anybody know if the gs70 will run without the battery connected? Mines dieing pretty fast, but I never use it on battery power anyways. Im wondering if I can put off replacing the battery for a bit and still use the laptop with no problems on just the ac adapter.

Hello all - long time no post,

    RMA'ing my GS70 for a few issues:st fin

    A. Battery won't charge completely. Can't just get a new battery. =(
    B. The screen bezel is separating from the screen. The bottom right corner acts funky. The clamshell also seems loose along the right side.
    C. WiFi has gone stupid in the last few weeks. It will drop the connection, show no connections available, and sometimes require a restart only to do it again. All other devices in the house are just fine. Tried a restart of the router to no luck. Tried new Killer drivers to no luck. Tried a netsh refresh.... no luck.

    A. How many percent does it get stuck at?
    B. This needs to be replaced by MSI.
    C. Have you tried updating the wireless driver to the most recent version?

Not recommended, even though you can disconnect it, but it may reduce system performance that's why it drains while you play games.

    A. It's @ 93%. It was previously at 97-98% but I could shut down and overnight the light would stop blinking. Now it's a constant issue.

    C. I have. That didn't work. I've done a system recovery (8.1 wouldn't install) and it still did the same thing. It's sitting at about 1 hour of use without dropping so far. That's the best it's been over those couple weeks.

I'm still waiting to hear back from MSI on if the RMA they sent out is still valid. Been super busy and wasn't able to send within the 30 day limit they give.

    A. Battery is going bad.
    C. Ok, then let MSI handle this for you.
RMA is valid for 30 days.

Hmm... and MSI hasn't responded to the last two updates on the support thread about the RMA concern. I don't want to send it in until they validate the over 30 day RMA. I'd have for it to get lost in the mix.

WiFi issues are insane. I was able to update it back to 8.1 after the Recovery. Worked for a few hours then went back to normal. Did all the optional updates only to have it knock out my Wireless driver. Had to reinstall the Killer package then modify the drivers to add the Wireless back in. And still dropped connection about 5 minutes after the restart. Very odd.

Hi guys, I've bought a GS70 a month ago.. It runs fine but the color calibration of the screen is a little off: the colors are great but the screen has a yellow tint. I use the notebook for gaming but also for color grading, post production etc so it's a problem for me.. Is there somebody who did a calibration of the screen (maybe with the Intel program) and can post the profile settings? It would be a huge help :)
Thanks and sorry for my poor English ç_ç

    I'm sorry - I haven't done a color calibration with the screen.

WiFi issues update - I happened to have my Device Manager open during a service drop and the actual driver drops then comes back. It's the oddest thing. The device stays in the program but Device Status changes. Internet search brings up a single forum post with no answer. *sigh*

Windows 10 should put all the drivers on automatically if you are upgrading. Otherwise msi.com for the latest. I've just migrated my gs30 but not had a chance to use it yet.

Only issue with windows 10 I had was with the track pad driver. Works fine until you unplug the power cable oddly - and others have reported it with the same laptop.

    To resolve...

Re-download the 8.1 driver from msi & install via compatibility mode

    http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GS70-2PE-Stealth-Pro.html#down-driver&Win8.1 64

Unzip the package, Right click Setup.exe --> TroubleShoot Compatibility --> TroubleShoot program --> 'The Program Worked in earlier version of windows' --> windows 8 --> Test the Program (this will then kick off the installer)

Should work fine after that - I also ticked the 'requires additional permissions', but not sure if this was actually required.

I must say that I'm less than enthused about how MSI has dropped updates for the GS70 so quickly. The GS70 is is my work system. I bought an Aorus X5 for my personal one and am much happier with it by far. Have had the GS70 since about a month or two after it was released and other than the keyboard being prone to breaking and nearly impossible to replace and the touchpad being a little less refined than a synaptics of the same era, it has been quite reliable. Just wish that MSI kept the drivers up to date when they use the same ones on other systems. Heck, they don't even show Win10 drivers. I'm running it and had to do the trackpad stuff mentioned before...

I did get a windows 10 update drop into my system the other day which was a new elan touchpad driver, so I imagine new upgrades will not have this issue.

Yup, there's no excuse for not releasing the drivers on time since Win10 is released.
MSI is working on the release and will post them as soon as they are ready.
Since they have a lot of models therefore it will take them some time before they can be released.

Has anyone installed the Touchpad Firmware (not the driver) on Win10?

(This firmware was necessary to improve the out-of-the box garbage touchpad. I think it re-maps everything.)

You are right, the BIOS contains touchpad mapping therefore it is possible a BIOS update should be needed for best Win10 user experience.

    Greetings everyone.

So I have recently aquired a GS70 Stealth, but I think I might have bricked it by attempting a BIOS upgrade.

I used the bios upgrade method of selecting the new version from a flashdrive while in the BIOS setup screens.

Had E1771IMS.507, and attempted to upgrade to the latest version from the MSI website E1771IMS.50G.

It took the update fine but now I can't seem to boot into Windows 8.1x64.
    Laptop has a 128gb SSD and a 1TB HDD. GTX765m

Anyone have a copy of my original BIOS so I could attempt to restore the laptop? Or is there a proper one that I should have used?

    And...... Nevermind!

I was able to wipe the old windows installation and start with a fresh copy, and everything is working fine so far!

Took a bit to find all the drivers but everything is up and running again! :)

I believe you are correct. I noticed that after the BIOS upgrade the "Bigfoot" boot loader disappeared from the normal startup screens. Also, changing the boot options from the BIOS had no effect other than not booting into the BIOS settings screen. I know the previous owner was using the laptop for a Linux box before I got it.

    All is good now.

BIOS upgrade can change some settings such as LAN boot option.
How did you resolve the issue and became able to boot into the OS in the end?

    Kevin,

I was fiddling with the boot options and set it for USB. I had a Win8 iso on a usb stick so I thought maybe I could repair the install. It stated that the current installation on the SSD was "Locked" so I just went for a full wipe on it and a clean install. No issues since.

They are identical except on the default option for AHCI mode.
    5XX = AHCI-default
    7XX = RAID-default.
However, you can manually change the mode in the BIOS.

    50G/70G is the latest version.

Has anyone successfully used an XBOX 360 controller with windows10 for GS70? It installs the drivers automatically, but it can't control anything, and if I select "Troubleshoot" it gives an error about USB 3.0

So, I'm really hoping someone here can help. I have one of these computers and the RAID has failed. One of the 2 SSDs is no longer striped properly. I'm reading some places that offer some advice on how this might be fixable, and it requires a little help from someone who owns one of these computers with a 256 GB SSD RAID 0 configuration.

    http://blog.quindorian.org/2013/07/repair-incorrectly-reported.html/

I might be able to rebuild the RAID per the listed website if I know exactly the capacity the RAID was created at initially. Can someone tell me the size of their 256 GB SSD RAID configuration?

    Thanks!

That should be all there is to it in Windows 8 and 10. What are you trying to play? Have you ran Windows updates with the controller connected?

RAID 0 is not recoverable. You have to replace the defective drive and rebuild from scratch.
