Has anyone tried using Xenar's linked driver? I swapped from the stock driver provided on MSI webpage (doesn't let me have 2 finger scrolling) to Xentar's. Although I gained 2 finger scrolling, I can no longer disable the touchpad by using the FN-F3 shortcut. Anyone know of a solution to this?

Well, I did a pretty invasive teardown only to find everything was perfect. Then I put it back together and started it up. The noise once again was there....BUT

I found out it wasn't the fan....it was something next to the fan more towards the inside. Its the speaker thingy....its making that clicking noise (that you can hear in the video I posted above). So I noticed that my sound system is all messed up too. Even when I plug in my headphones, the sound is choppy. This wasn't the case at first before I heard this clicking sound. Oddly, the 2 speakers towards the front do not output choppy sounds.

Im most likely going to RMA this cause the driver update didnt fix it and it seems to be a hardware issue.

Loosen or remove the screw i've circled in the image and the clicking sound stops. Give it a try.

this issue can be fixed by removing the cover of the laptop. locating the wireless card and popping a couple 9mil rounds into it. jk lol.

i would try to remove the current drivers and uninstall the driver completely for the killer card and redownloading it from msi's site and attempting to reinstall it.

I'm trying to identify the Kingston model SSD installed standard on the -064 model. I'd like to see if a firmware update is available for the drive. Using standard tools I've IDed the serial number (50026B72470A1XXX) and the Model # (Kingston RBU-SNS8100S3128GD!) however neither number can be used for support information on the Kingston website. Also I have not been able to successfully run the "Kingston Toolbox" program to ID the drive; this may be some AHCI mode compatibility thing. Firmware plays a large role in an SSDs performance and I'd like to confirm that it's on the latest revision; currently on S8FM06.A. Thanks for any help.

is the sound coming from the speaker ports? if they are it could be becasue one of the audio wires have been stripped by the 2.5 HDD or SSD just a tiny bit but enough for it to mess with the speakers. i had made the mistake of not protecting the wire to begin with and now my wire has been stripped a little though this was fixed by repositioning the wire and with a bit of tape.

EDIT: woah didnt read ahead of the post before posting, that sound would drive me crazy, im to a point where i feel comfortable enough to take apart my laptop to see what could be the cause of that irritable clicking, i would try (wouldn't recommend unless you dont care about warranty* i dont*) to disassemble the laptop to try to figure out why the fan would be clicking as it does.

    http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/msi-gs60-ghost-pro-mini-review-and-upgrade-log.200251/

    ^
this helped me take apart my laptop, and i would be careful when popping off the bottom panel if you do choose to self diagnose your laptop. all five of the small latch like hinges broke off when using my fingernail to pry the panel from the back of the laptop, imo its not a big concern since i didnt notice anything afterwards, the screws still held everything in place very snug.

nvm this seems to be a hardware issue. :r

Also what would be a good replacement for the 1525 killer card? this things diving me nuts, does not hold a decent connection unless im 5ft away from the router. :r

    hello guys,

the gigabyte P35w v3 just came out here in canada, should i go for gs60 2qe or this one?
the p35 is upgradable, you can upgrade it yourself very easily, but it has weaker wifi, lan,
screen, keyboard, weight and the hd that it gives is only 5400rpm also 8gb ram only.

I'm on a Ghost Pro 3K. Has anyone figured out how to run WoW at 1920x1080 in fullscreen? I can't get it to run anything other than 2880x1620 at fullscreen. The resolution option isn't there regardless of what I set my windows resolution to.

You can always ask them directly, email or PM as they have representatives here, like most resellers :)

Why not shoot them an email/pm?

    Pleas Help...

    First, the good news.
After watching countless videos, reading reviews, reading through this whole thread more than once, and saving some money up, I was finally able to get purchase my GS60 Ghost Pro 3k-046! This is one sleek, beautiful laptop. and very powerful. When I first got I was very pleased with pretty much everything. Right away when I got it, I downloaded a few apps, set up my account and so on. After that I plugged it into the router, along with my old laptop to do some file transferring and to download games. I left it this for about a day while I was at work. After reading this thread for a while I came to expect loud fans and a lot of heat, but so far the fans are quiet while idling/web browsing, and the temps are fine. Everything was good (except for the touchpad, but after downloading the Samsung driver mentioned earlier in this thread it's usable).

    Now the bad:
After everything was downloaded and another day at work, I unplugged it from the router and started trying to watch some videos on youtube. I noticed that the download speed was terrible, and this being a brand new, +$2000 laptop, I immediately assume my modem/router is ed up. So I reset it a couple times and still no luck. The download speed will go from normal (60Mbps is what I pay for, I always get 55-65) to ~1.5Mbps for no apparent reason. After using sppedtest on my phone and old laptop, I realized this problem was on my Ghost pro. So I figured maybe my settings were messed up,and I go through the network settings, Killer Network manager, and driver settings for the network card. After no luck with these I tried updating the driver through MSI's website, then Qualcomm's, and again with killer suite. After all that it seemed to work. But in the middle of a steam download, it happened again. I was getting <1Mbps. After restarting, it got better for a little while, then went down to about 12Mbps. I gave up for a little while and just dealt with it. I installed a few mods for Skryim, and tested it a few times, and I began to notice a trend. It would always have a poor connection after or during gameplay. When I noticed this I tried switching it from the 970m to intel and my connection went back to normal. At this point I figured I the GPU was somehow causing the problem. This was yesterday, now today, I'm trying to recreate this problem, but the connection seems stable at ~40Mbps, even while the dedicated GPU is on. My old laptop is still showing a consistent 60Mbps connection, as is my Galaxy S5.

I have no idea what to do at this point, and I'm just so frustrated. Does anyone here have any idea how to fix this. If not for this problem, I'd love basically everything about this laptop, but working wifi is just so necessary that I'm constantly frustarted with this. Please help

I'm using a Killer wireless 1525 adapter, with driver version 11.0.0.400

@_Jo3Y: Might be worth to check if you have 2 (or more) different virus scanners installed. Multiple virus scanners often fight eache other causing stange lags or even slow system. Just an idea.

I ran into a similar problem and I was able to resolve it by tweaking my wireless router (Asus RT-AC68U) and I upgraded the Killer 1525 drivers to version 11.0.0.357.

I see you are on version 11.0.0.400 so obviously there is a difference, but to what extent I don't know :)

Have you tried isolating your Wireless connection between your laptop and router and running some tests? (eliminate all of your other wireless devices...I know that's a pain, it was for me, I couldn't believe how many devices were connecting wirelessly in my house!!) Also, are you connected via N or AC? I'm via AC to my Asus router.

Have you also tried performing your wireless tests when connected to a different router? Like at your friends house maybe?

One of the first things I did was uninstall all of the Norton stuff and I've only got AVG running right now. It seems unlikely that this would be causing any issues. Thanks for the input though.

I've only got my MSI laptop, phone, and old HP laptop on a wifi connection. PS4 is connected with an ethernet cable (usually off, and always off when doing any testing) and my old laptop is off completely, so isolating the connection is farly simple for me. I don't think testing wirelessly at my friends' place would help. Their connection maxes out at about 5Mbps anyway, so it would be hard to compare. My modem/router is b/g/n and I've just configured it to only use N, since both my phone and laptop are using this anyway. I'd rather not have to go out and buy a new router. It'd be nice to have but my bank account has taken a big enough hit for now, haha.

Right now everything seems ok, not sure if it was this switch or something else I did, or maybe it even just fixed itself. I don't really know, but thanks for your suggestions. Hopefully it continues to work well.

Received mine, reporting in with initial results. All appears to be working great, so far no issues...

This thing is impressive! Updated Windows, basic cleaning up and ran 3DMark11:

Stock out of box: 3DMark11 P9193
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4710HQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16H5

    Quick initial NVInspector OC +135/+510: 3DMark11 P9967
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4710HQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16H5

Appears externally exactly the same as my other GS60, no physical changes. Still loving this chassis!

Looking forward to playing with it further, did a quick test of FC4 and it's buttery smooth with higher settings than my 780m GT60! Amazing in such a slim design!

Are there any drivers for the webcam available for the FHD-version? There's a webcam on the top of the screen, but I don't really know if its working or not, doesn't seem llke Windows recognizes it.

    I just orderd mine!
(2QE-036) 3K 970 3GB version (could not find a 6GB version). It should arrive next week!

    Things I'm planning to do:
    - Replace badge to my own designed badge
    - Replace HDD with Samsung 850 pro 512GB SSD
    - Install XenClient with Linux Mint & Windows 8.1 VM's (Hope to have almost full game performance while being in an VM. Ultimately I can play high end games inside Linux enviroment.)
    - Lowering voltage and cooling as much as possible to gain more office battery life. (Will try to do a test before and after to see how much time I can squeez out of the battery)
    - Searching for an alternative power brick. Looking at something like getting an Razer Blade 2014 spare power brick and find/create and adapter to the GS60.

Looking forward to it all! :p

    Hello friends,

Finally, I got a GS60 pro and am really happy with it. Have just ordered 16 go of Corsair Vengeance pc12800 and some MX4 for a repaste.
However, have any of you got a custom EC firmware because I find the fans in idle so noisy !

I remembered having installed a custom one for my GT60 2 years ago and it was perfect...

Is there any custom firmware on the forum I can use to make this calmer ? Thanks a lot for your responses !

I will let you know my new Temps after the repaste.

If it happens again, try locking the wifi broadcast channel on your router to see if that helps (temporarily!)...? Hope it doesn't happen though!

First thing come to mind is there maybe too many wireless routers in the environment.
Download WiFi Analyzer on your Galaxy and have a look if there are too many WiFi in the same or nearby channels as your own.
Try move your WiFi to a less busy channel if possible then see if it gets more stable.

You could be right. I live in the middle of an apartment building, and the 2.4Ghz band looks quite crowded. If I keep running into problems, I may have to get a dual band router or something.

I just moved about a month ago and got the router/modem with service, I hadn't run into any problems until I got my new laptop. I guess I figured if it worked before, it should still be fine.

Just received my MSI GS60 2QE FHD 3GB 970M 8GB Ram yesterday and I'm heading offshore tomorrow so not much time to do much testing but I'm very glad I came across your post as my results are identical and I too was starting to worry.

    3dMark11 I get between 8600 - 8800 every time. 3dMark Firestrike is 6500 - 6600 everytime.

GPU is hitting 78C, CPU 70C.

Had a really quick test in Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age Inq and Far Cry 4 and all seem sweet. My plan is to carry out lots of real game tests/temp monitoring and post some vids.

Hope this puts your mind at rest.

    Jay.

    Thanks. :)

Meanwhile I have seen also benchmarks from other GTX 970M notebooks with just 8 GB RAM and they were a bit slower too. Good to see another confirmation.

So it seems it's indeed just a difference between single-channel and dual-channel RAM configs. I guess those 12 GB RAM MSI GS60 models also should have the same performance penalty then.

Shame MSI GS60 innards are so difficult to access, otherwise I would have already added another 8 GB RAM stick. I'll see how long I'll resist.

Good day, I have recently bought an MSI GS60 Pro and I have questions regarding its battery usage. Should I just plug it in while playing games even if it's fully charged, or will I have to do a cycle of disconnecting it once full and then plugging it again once the battery hits 30%?

Plug it in while playing games or else your gpu will throttle. It needs the psu to operate at full power

Hey, I am about to buy Msi GS60 2QE and I am troubled about the resolution... I live in Greece and a friend of mine will be in New York for Christmas so I asked him to purchase it for me. So I won't have many returning options :p. Firstly, I am not sure If I actually need 3k on a 15.6 inch screen. I tested it on a friend's laptop and I think everything was too small. I also need the laptop for University which involves writing and browser search. So, I would not want to finally say "Oh I wish I had bigger words and smaller resolution". I also read about all those problems with burned pixels and backlighting and I am a little worried. What I usually do to my current laptop, which is quite old, is watch a lot of movies, browsing the web and work related writing. Of course If I buy this kind of laptop I would definitely start playing games as I used to do when my laptop was new, but do I really need 3K for that?
What do you suggest? Does it worth the 3k or should I stick to 1080?

Backlight bleed will be existent on both screens because of the screen type they both are. As for your concerns, with 3k, you can scale all your every day tasks very easily. My icons are just as large as my desktop monitor and all the text on Chrome is big and legible. The only scaling issues that ever bother me are from legacy programs. For example, Solidworks 2012 and Adobe CS4 both have very tiny icons. They are still usable but it's more of a pain than before. If I use them long term, I usually switch my desktop to 1080p before opening. I'm really hoping MS comes up with a way to launch these older programs in a window that can be scaled to our desire(maybe in Windows 10). Probably just wishful thinking on my part. The only other issue is when I play games in Steam at full res, the chat window becomes very small. Steam has a pixel doubler when you're on your desktop, but when you play a game like Dota at 3k, the doubler gets disabled. So when people chat with you, the window is tiny. A minor annoyance because I hardly use the chat while playing that game, but it exists. All that said, I wouldn't trade my 3k for 1080p for a second. The difference in image quality is very obvious and certainly worth the tradeoffs imho.

Duh, something got broken with my MSI GS60. Something happened with it while I was away from a notebook. I left it running with Steam, it was happily downloading games, no sign of any problems. After some time of inactivity, display turned off, as usual.

When I returned after a while, I found it with display turned on, showing blue screen of death, complaining about problems on Windows start (with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION).

I did try to reboot multiple times, Windows told it was doing automatic repairs, but anyways it just kept rebooting into the same blue screen of death.

I had to resort to "repair Windows" option to get out of this loop. This finally made it possible to boot, though of course I lost my installed apps and Windows updates (it even put back Norton and WinZip crapware)

Some more info: there shouldn't even have been anything to cause a sudden Windows reboot without any user action. I had Windows updates set to "check for updates but let me choose ...".

I did download new Nvidia drivers from today (347.09 WHQL, via GeForce experience) but I didn't get to install them yet. Windows updates all up-to-date.

Any idea what could be going on? Anybody else with such problem?

    Hi gents.

I'm getting close to buying a new laptop and this one is high on the list. I'd like a high ress screen but I've read the new 4k model is limited to 48hz. The 3k model was 60 I think.
    Am I correct?

And which one would you go for?

I can confirm the 3k has a 60hz refresh rate. If you can find a game that runs with 60fps at 2880x1620, it looks incredible

I've seriously struggled to find much info on the 4K screen... I'd love others to share anything as well if they have it!!

Having said that, I currently own two versions with the 1080p, it's an absolutely fantastic screen. My question to you would be what are your main plans with the laptop? Gaming will have to scale down to 1080p for framerate reasons with any newish games, which on the 3K looks worse than the 1080p by a good bit. I'm still trying to find anyone that has commented on the 4k version at 1080p resolution while gaming, but I'd assume it would have to look better than the 3K, but I too am curious how much. Also, I can't determine if the 4K screen, when downscaled to 1080p, runs at 60hz or remains stuck at 48hz.

I just bought a GS60 Ghost Pro-064 (1080p) from Newegg, and can't say enough good things about the performance and went this way because it had the 6GB VRAM.... great machine, love it. But, my question is similar to yours, how is the 4K screen? I know I'd prefer the 1080p over the 3K screen, but simply can't find any info on the 4K option. I have a couple more weeks to decide if I want to keep this version or swap it for the 4K-078 version (Gold color, which I don't love, but it's the only 4K 6GB version available here).

    911!

I need someone to do me a huge favor and I will love you forever.

    Please do this:

    1. Install XTU from Intel
    2. Add in XTU 4 things to view:
    1. CPU Temp
    2. GPU Temp
    3. Thermal Throttling
    4. Power Limit Throttling
    3. Run XTU
    4. Play BF4 for couple hours on Ultra with everything Maxed out.
    5. Look at XTU
    6. Report back settings or take screen shot of 1 hour of monitoring
    7. Receive love

Please do this for me. I have returned thus far:

    P34g V2
    GS60
    GS60
    P35x V3

I really want to give the GS60 another go but I can't believe I forgot to do XTU or wait I don't think i knew about it then.

    Anyways! Thanks!

    It's not really available yet.
But if you need custom EC firmware then talk to Svet at MSI forum and he would be more than happy to assist you.

Halving the res when gaming should make the picture look decent. 3k to 1080p isn't half so that may be why it's not looking as good as native 1080p. I don't really understand the decision to put 6gb GPU in the 1080p model but not the higher res ones. Infact there are a lot of laptops out there with configs that make little sense to me.

But anyway... If the 4k screen was 60hz and had 6gb I'd snap it up. As it is I'm trying to see which slim laptop with a decent GPU has the least bad config.

That's my thoughts as well, I know gaming at 4k isn't practical, but figure a 4k screen running at 1080p should still look good. I just can't find anybody that knows if when you drop the resolution of the 4k panel, does the refresh rate run at 60hz or remain stuck at 48hz.

    Kevin or Ken, any idea?

It's going to operate at normal frequency at lower resolution, but if you don't do 3D gaming then 4K works for you.
