Then something was wrong with your full fat 1070 because a laptop 1070 is actually quite a bit faster than a RTX 2060 with the 1070 being on average 11% faster than the RTX 2060 laptop..

Just a quick feedback from a new owner of the 2080 GS75, spent a few hours with it and only ran some less GPU dependent titles such as Dota/CS
I'm not going to go technical with the numbers, just some simple usage feedback
The laptop feels sturdy, much more so than my previous GS60 Ghost Pro 3K 860M from 2014
I didn't notice any flex during normal usage as I don't take the laptop off my desk very often if at all
Certainly less flex than the GS60 however
With the thin bezel, screen feels immersive when in use compared to my 13.3" ultrabook and 15.6" GS60
Color gamut is great and the screen is butter smooth, noticeable difference even during web browsing
Even though the resolution is a step down, it is not apparent during normal usage
The lower DPI becomes more obvious when watching Netflix but I have a 4K TV to take care of that
My unit had no issue with backlight bleeding, maybe very very minor on the lower left corner, but it is difficult to even notice
The chassis, weight & keyboard layout, key travel are pretty much the same from my old GS60, so there's no learning curve
I did have some issue when typing with my right palm clicking on the right button of the track pad
However it is not major since I use a mouse alongside and can easily enables/disables the track pad with the preset Fn+F3(?) hotkey
Fan noise is apparent when playing games but the temp seems controlled and only fires up intermittently
It is cooled very quickly after GPU/CPU load drops
The old GS60 speaker had more bass compare to the GS75
It is crisp and loud on the GS75, but there's a bit too much treble for my liking and can be a bit sharp to the ear at times
Definitely room for improvement in that regardLast edited: Mar 7, 2019SinkyPitGuy and Atma like this. -
Bit the bullet on a 2060 and paid extra for 16gb of ram. Making the decision was excrucitating to the point of lunacy.
In the end I had to rationalise the fact I hardly even play games any more. What won me in the end is the weight, compact 17 inch format, mature looks, tb3 port, decent keyboard. Also this will be my sole pc device.
Thanks to all the posters for your input.Atma likes this. -
Hello fellow gs75 owners,
I have a request, for one of you.
I removed windows and installed Ubuntu and then wanted to claim the Nvidia game (anthem) but we need to do it through geforce experience.
Well, as you can guess, no gfe on Linux, so i tried to do it with an other computer, with windows, but **** there is an hardware check.
Can one of you use my EA credentials and nvidia anthem code to add the game to my EA library ?
Otherwise i have to install windows, activate the game, then reinstall ubuntu... Or swap ssd, but i only have one... I could really use some help.
Thank you -
Setting up my new GS75 and I have a question about the keyboard. There is no numlock indicator light, unlike with caps lock, and I was wondering if there’s a way to sep up the RGB lighting to preform this function. I had a quick play with the software but these keyboards are new to me and I couldn’t see anything that would work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.seanwee likes this. -
That's a cool idea. Would be nice to have the caps lock, num lock change to a different colour when toggled.

Well guys.. I went ahead and grabbed a gs75 with the 2070 maxq. Working on undervolting and getting it debloated . I still have my p870tm1-g , I just needed something alot lighter for work LOL. And so far it's fitting the bill. I am absolutely Despising the fact I lost DSR . But as far as monitor quality I am super impressed. I'll report back as I figure some of this stuff out . Please tell me someone it's ok to remove the dragon center bs on here ?? Lol
*Update*
Wellp. After playing around with it... It's getting sent back. It's a neat machine for those who want a thin light weight device. But idle of 60c- max loads in 90s even after a undervolt on the CPU with the fans maxed. I think I'm just going to grab a 2080 and 9700k for the p870tm1 and call it a day.Last edited: Mar 10, 2019 -

I am shocked that this years laptops have all but abandoned the option to spec dual channel ram. It's even more frustrating that MSI have made it such an awkward task by putting the motherboard in upside down.
So with the 2070 Max Q needing dual channel RAM to actually outperform the 2060 what would be the ideal solution?
Just buy another 16gb and be done with it? Get 2 8gb? Just not bother?
I think it's crazy that a £2300 laptop needs to be upgraded pretty much as soon as it comes out of the box in order to meet its full potential.
The more I'm thinking about it the more I wish I'd have just bought the 32gb ram option since that came dual channel out of the box. -
Dual channel affects CPU not GPU performance.
-
That's true, but looking at the benchmarks everything with dual channel memory is destroying the equivalent hardware running single channel. Some games see upwards of 20fps improvement running dual channel memory.
There was a comparison between the two new dells running the 2060 and 2070 max q. The 2060 showed better performance gaming wise 75% of the time, but when you added in dual channel memory then the 2070 max q outperformed the 2060 which didn't see as big a benefit from switching to dual channel.
The 2070 max q sees a 20-30% boost in performance over the 2060 when you introduce dual channel memory.Last edited: Mar 12, 2019 -
Thank god. I was worried I completely wasted money on a 2070 maxq. Well time will tell when I get it from Gentech next week.
-
Honestly it was not that bad. I removed the motherboard to do a liquid metal repaste. I already had 32gb ram so I didn't need to change them out. The amount of thermal paste on the gpu was insane. Some good tweezers are your friend with a few of the ribbon cables.
-
Any chance you could give us some temperatures before and after the LM repaste?
-
Might have missed it in the previous pages but for the ones who found the windows key placement very annoying, i can confirm that you can switch it back in Dragon Center so that's one of the few bad things about this laptop gone !
Both caps are the same size, i might try to pop them off and switch them too so the keyboard can be almost perfect (not a fan of the long left shift though).
Got the RTX2060 version and out of the box, no sign of flex on the chassis. Fair bit of screen flex if, well, you try to flex it. Small light bleed on the bottom left, i'll see how i feel about it after a few days of use. -
Might sound daft but where did you find the option to change the windows key in dragon center? Actually scratch that. It was right in front of my face.
-
Yeah on the second tab i think. Weird that none of the reviewers mentionned it, maybe it wasnt there in the review samples...
-
Before repasted I was constantly thermal throttling. Idle was 65 degrees and light multitasking easily. Took it to 90+. After repaste no thermal throttling instead I am getting power throttling on occasion. Idle around 53 degrees and under load 78-84 on average. The 2080 max q boosts much higher now as well.seanwee and Weaboo1917 like this.

This is great news! I've been wondering what kind of cooling I can expect for the 2080 model once it comes in and I undervolt. Are those temps with the fans running full tilt? I'm hoping to strike a balance and avoid having my laptop sound like a jet engine under load.
-
No they aren't full tilt but I did build a custom fan curve to keep the Temps low and the volume down. Running a 1.35 undervolt on the cpu and +75 on the gpu core clock. I do find the 2080 to be kind of an oddity with a 1080p display as several games like ff15 don't allow you to use dlss unless your resolution is 4k.
-
Anyone can recommend a good sleeve for this ? The 15" look a bit small and the 17" are too big...

Just got my shipping notification from GenTechPC today. I ordered on 2/16 and is on the way so for others waiting you'll know what to expect.ryzeki likes this.

I received my 2080 Max-Q from XoticPC yesterday. I haven't had a chance to really put it through its paces, but my out of the box impressions have been very positive.
The weight is ideal, I carry my laptops around a lot so I didn't want anything too heavy. The chassis feels solid, and while I can flex it if I try, I feel like some of the reviewers treated it a bit unfairly in that regard.
It's my first 144 Hz display, coming from mostly 60 and 75 Hz panels it has been pretty eye opening, and I love the thin bezels. I haven't had a chance to calibrate it yet so I can't comment on color accuracy, but my unit has very minimal backlight bleed.
I'm using this mostly for game development (and playing, who am I kidding) on the go, and I'm very pleased with the key travel and general feel of the keyboard. The only oddity I've noticed is that there is no left windows key. I can also understand the complaints about the trackpad placement, but I have a mouse plugged in 95% of the time anyway.
The CPU gets pretty toasty under load, hovering around 88-92C while compiling a large-ish C++ codebase with the default fan settings, stock thermal compound, and no undervolt. The GPU stays relatively cool, in the 60s and 70s in the few games I've tried. The fans are audible under load, but not obnoxiously loud.
The speakers are about what you would expect from a laptop, I would definitely opt for a good pair of headphones.
I'll be curious to see what kind of battery life I get in my day to day use, but thus far I'm really happy with my purchase

Have you tried undervolting yet?
-
Hi
I just received my GS75 with 2060 few days ago to replace my asus gl502vs and so far so good.
It is well build and I could vouch what @Hogknuckle has said that the build quality of the chassis is actually very good. I tried to replicate what the reviewers mentioned about the flex, and in my opinion it requires great amount of force applied to the chassis which is not something you usually do.
But the best thing about this laptop is the display, oh man the thin bezel! its lovely. This is my first 144hz display coming from 60 hz, I would never thought that it would take any difference, but it really is much smoother. Overall though I'm impressed, thin and light, beautiful display, great keyboard and touchpad, decent thermals max 79 C for GPU with stock paste (CPU though its really hard to tame 90-93 when the CPU package power rose to 50-60 W even with -.135 undervolt) but nevertheless it still holds the max turbo ratio pretty well.
However one thing though which bothers me related to the graphic score firestrike benchmark that I got is consistently lower than other 2060 laptop.
as you can see I only managed to get a graphic score of around 15000 and this is also with +200 core and +250 mem overclocked! and this is of course using latest drivers.
According to notebookcheck the average is around 15500 (assuming that its stock) and I've seen some post in GS65 could achieve around 16000 - 17000 ish when overclocked.
Can anyone with gs75 2060 confirm this? The temp should be not a problem as it only reached 74-78 max and I test it with Cooler Boost fan to avoid any thermal throttling. -
How much ram does it have?
-
Pretty certain the default RAM configuration for the 2060 is a single stick of 16GB. Dual channel should help considerably.
-
Yes, the ram is single channel 16GB. Maybe that is the sole reason its underperforming. Well, I'll try to upgrade it to dual channel in the future.
When playing games its still okay though -
Did you check because while most do come with one stick, i was surprised to see that mine came with 2x8GB.
-
That's great! I thought they all shipped with single channel only.
Yeap checked it, it only has one Samsung memory.
-
Lack of dual channel memory seems to be the biggest issue with all of these RTX laptops.
From what I have seen the 2060 has the least to gain from it, the 2070max q gains up to 30% improvement. I haven't seen the numbers on the 2080max q yet.
I have seen people with the 32gb version say they had 2 16gb as well. -
Use the Nvidia driver slimmer.
https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/nvidia-driver-slimming-utility.423072/
Check mark everything in CORE, NGX, and USB C driver (7 things in total) and install that. You should get a boost in performance.
I do this with my GS65 and it really does improve scores and overall FPS.

I'm not that really bothered about benchmarks scores, was just answering to udho77 but thanks i'll try it out
What sort of boost are we talking about ? And do you see it in games too ? -
Just an increase in FPS and higher scores.
Try it for yourself and let us know your results.

Thanks for the benchmark score!, yeah now I see my score is not much different to the other GS75. Will try to do the Jrey recommendation
-
So I've tried the Nvidia driver slimmer
Here are the things that I've done:
1. Uninstalled driver with DDU
2. Install driver with NvSlimmer using minimal setting options
3. Overclock GPU Core + 180 (200 crashed), 200 Mem Clock
4. Throttlestop with -.125 mV, SpeedShift 32
5. Cooler Boost on
6. Run Firestrike
Nslimmer setting (Please correct me if I choose the wrong options)
Firestrike result:
not much different to my previous scoregt_kenny and Kevin@GenTechPC like this. -

Probably maxed out already? -
Your overall score went up ~150 points and your graphics score went up ~260 points. That’s a decent improvement IMO. Have you run game benchmarks before the install?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalkudho77 and Kevin@GenTechPC like this. -
Yes, pretty much maxed out from what I can do with the GPU. I haven't test games though, will do it later.
But, from notebookcheck, I've seen the MSI GL73 with 2060, the graphic scores reached 15,713 ~ (assuming stock clock) while mine as you can see maxed out already. If the issue is the single channel, the gl73 tested is also used a single channel.
https://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GL73-8SE-i7-8750H-RTX-2060-Laptop-Review.403811.0.html
Here is my result with the GPU running stock:
It seems it is a bit lower compare to other 2060 laptop. Maybe I'm too obsessed with firestrike result though lol -
In the Nvidia Control Panel, what is your texture quality set to? Quality, High Quality, Performance, etc...
In my testing, setting to High quality will yield the lowest scores but the best texture quality. Default is Quality which boosts scores and FPS by a little bit. -
Just got my GS75 2060 in. Haven't done anything to it yet outside of updating drivers.

Nice! I can see that you have a dual channel, so it really does improves the performance. Does it come at stock like that, or you upgraded it yourself?

I opted in for the Dual Channel upgrade when I was purchasing it from HIDEvolution.

That is weird, have you tried to reinstall the driver? its best to use the DDU

Clean the driver, reboot, and reinstall. -
Morning team GS75er's. I am maybe a day away from receiving my beauty.
Question, is it worth going dual channel with 2060?
Another question, what SSD's are we buying? I need something to store large games and something to store just a butt load of files. Any experience and recommendations?
Thanks as always. -
For what it's worth I see no end of people recommending the Samsung 970 EVO It's about £210 for the 1tb version and it has a 5 year guarantee as standard. I'm planning on getting one in the next month or so.
There are gains if you go dual channel, but I guess it depends on if you want to spend the extra cash for what are in reality pretty small gains.
Speaking of which, what RAM would you guys recommend getting if going dual channel? Just get another 16gb or buy two 8gb and replace the single 16gb?nuggetbro likes this.
