I purchased from USA (AMAZON) and the international warranty carried over to Australia.
MSI provides 1-year international warranty.

I spoke to the service center folks here. They told it won't be applicable in India.

Did you try reinstalling the newest nvidia drivers after the reset?
I ended up doing a clean install and Optimus works now but I didn’t update the nvidia driver yet. -
The OS is pretty clean from the factory, I am not sure why you guys go to the trouble of a clean format. I get the habit - but MSI is pretty good with not having bloatware (I uninstalled a few things - but that was it).
-
I uninstalled pretty much everything and disabled everything else. Not exactly sure what was going on but optimus wouldn't kick in and i noticed my fans were running almost constantly even though I had a custom fan profile. That, and I didn't have anything to do last night. So far, everything is working fine but I'll probably wait for nvidia to release another driver update before I try messing with it again.
-
Didn't bother trying to update to the latest drivers. I don't intend to use Ray Tracing cause I'm hardly looking at scenery while shooting at the enemy. I'll just wait it out a month or so before trying to get the drivers from Nvidia's website. The stock drivers are quite decent.
I have a question for you. Have you kept a check on the core clocks on your 2060 which gaming? Mine averages well above 1200MHz (Nvidia Spec for Boost core clock = 1200 MHz), and it goes as high as 1890MHz. Have you seen the same behavior? -
I have a 2080 max q, but haven’t had the time to look at clock speeds yet. I will try to get to it this evening.
-
From what I understand, that is the minimum boost your GPU will go up to as long as you’re within the thermal and power restrictions of the GPU. If there is extra room, it’ll boost higher than that.
My 2080 Max-Q’s rated boost is 1095MHz but in reality, I hover around 1350MHz, sometimes spike boosting to 1815.
It all depends on the game and the load on the GPU at that time.

Is anyone running nvidia’s 418.91 driver with Optimus working?
-
Me. I used the driver slimmer utility.
I will say though that the nvidia control panel still isn’t working for me lol. But whatever.

I might do an image backup and try it again. The control panel isn’t that big of a deal since I stopped messing with those setting anyways.
-
Just got my GS65 LM'ed from gentech. Pretty happy with everything so far. Two little things is 1) there's definitely a bit a creek/give around the power button. Nowhere else though. And 2) CPU is running around 90c in games.... seems a little hot for a LM'ed job but I guess I'll eventually get around to undervolting it...
One other question, does the trackpad use windows precision drivers? The zoom function isn't really working how I remembered, though maybe it's different between Chrome and Firefox as I just switched off chrome.Last edited: Feb 21, 2019 -
Don't we just need a modded .INF file to be able to install the latest Nvidia drivers?
-
Alright guys, I think I figured out why Optimus hasn't been working for some of you.
If you install MSI afterburner and have it run when windows logs in REGARDLESS of if an overclock is active or not, the dGPU will stay on.
Little known fact, you can also run your core overclock WITHOUT MSI afterburner by turning on "Apply overclocking at system startup". I tested this with restarts and full shutdowns, GPU-Z shows my overclock sticks.
Now, if you do this method AND overclock the MEMORY, the dGPU will stay ON.
So, what do you do?
If you turned on "Apply overclocking at system startup", do not overclock the memory if you want optimus to trigger. Core is fine and will trigger Optimus but overclocking the memory will keep the dGPU active.
Hope this helps!Michael A. Saldana and kbrocx like this. -
The latest Nvidia drivers would depend on which version of windows 10 you're running. Build 1803 support Universal Windows Drivers, which is why in the MSI support page there are two separate graphic drivers to choose. They note which one to pick from depending upon your OS build. After some searching, i've found the the option "windows driver type" on the nvidia driver download page. You can choose between standard and DCH. DCH drivers are only supported on 1803+ i believe, and you also need to download the nvidia control panel from windows store after (if it doesn't download itself after). I just used DDU to clean install the DCH driver and the control panel downloaded from the store after. https://ibb.co/7RvjXsx

Great info for those that use afterburner. I’ve used it before but decided not to this time because the performance is so minimal. I’m just waiting for my ssd to finish backing up and then I’m going to give the updated drivers another shot.
So far though, everything seems to be working fine. -
Edit*
Nevermind, it's because I wasn't logged in LOL. Anyway, still stuck at "Starting Download" for me... DCH drivers suck, it's so broken.
Hmm... Microsoft is asking me for a redemption code for the Nvidia Control Panel....
Anyone else get this?

Use windows store, don't try getting it through the browser.
EDIT: Haha. Yeah, you also have to make sure you don't upgrade any DCH drivers with standard ones by mistake. That can really make things go wrong.Last edited: Feb 22, 2019 -
Yea, I did practically everything the internet told me to do.
In fact, I have an email string of Nvidia helping me. They have the exe but refuse to send it to me for “security reasons”. It’s so stupid.
At the very least, laptop is usable and I get no performance penalty when gaming

Guys with all the hardship of dealing with the drivers. You guys feel it's worth making the switch to RTX now or wait a few weeks/couple months. I am in no rush.
Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk -
You may have tried upgrading with standard drivers, I would use DDU to clean install them.
-
Lol nah, I have the latest drivers. I DDU in safe mode and everything. Its cool though. I already gave up trying.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
When you tried to install them, did you choose the option to install the geforce experience with the driver or just the driver alone? Also, did you upgrade to the newest build yet? Its 1809 i believe now.
-
So after the full wipe/clean install, I got everything working, including Optimus and Nvidia control panel on the newest drivers (used the NVSlimmer app). Something strange I noticed though, out of the box, my cpu idled around 54c and jumped up to high 80s during gaming and cinebench cpu testing so I thought that maybe I got a bad LM paste job or warped heatsink. Also, even sitting at idle, my fans would kick on and off. Now after redoing the entire installation of windows and drivers/apps, I'm sitting at 44c and cinebench pulls a 1250 score with only reaching low 80s. After owning this laptop for almost a week now, I can finally start really using it.
-
I am 100% fully updated. Windows, bios, firmware, the whole shebang.
And I never install GeForce experience. Robs you of performance.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Oh, yeah i know that of course. I believe it wont install the control panel for you if you don't install them both at the same time though. After, just uninstall it. I did.
-
Well folks, I fixed my Nvidia and Intel control panel issues.
The culprit was NOT HAVING DRAGON CENTER RUNNING.
Yup, I needed to have Dragon Center 2 running. I suspect that it's used as a key to allow the system to download certain software items (Nvidia, Intel, Nahimic, etc).
So what I did was install Dragon Center, download the control panels in the Microsoft Store, then disable Dragon Center from starting up via Task Scheduler. Done deal. -
Nice job! Will never understand the reason why you need certain programs running just to update something completely unrelated to each other.
-
Ah! I see. This makes sense! Thank you!
-
Hey trying to follow your guide for the gs65. You said you used Silent Option for fan control. All I can find is a download link on the msi forum from 2015 V1.0.1603.3101 seems to be the newest one. Is this what you use?
Additionally, I've been testing my CPU temps. I've noticed that core 1 and 2 stick around 85-93c and the rest hover around 70-80, despite them all seemingly having the same "usage" %. This makes me think gentech did a bad liquid metal application. Let me know if this is normal or not, thanks.Last edited: Feb 22, 2019 -
That's not normal. I am sorry but I have to call out Gentech on this one - you should inquire with them. Here are my temps after benching:

@falldragon I agree. I reached 85c on the CPU and 76c on the GPU on autofan and the laptop not elevated. You should be in the same range between sk3tch and myself.
-
Use the "Skylake" version in the link below. You'll also have to create a task scheduler item to have this load on log in.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=255972.0
Also, your CPU temps have too big of an gap. I believe 3, maybe 4c difference is considered "normal". I'd contact GenTech to see what's up.falldragon likes this. -
so should dragon center be used or uninstalled?
-
After my issues with download the control panels, I’d disable it in task scheduler instead. That way, you can always enable it when you need too.

The new nvidia 419.17 drivers are out today > I can't test them atm, but looking at the inf file I believe it now shows the device id in the DCH drivers for the mobile 2060, going off memory 1f08
NVIDIA_DEV.1F08 = "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060" -
Here's what I'm seeing at the beginning of BFV. Looks like I'll have to send it back to gentech and wait even longer ughhhhh.
One silver lining, that clock speed for the GPU is much higher that I thought it'd be for the 80w 2080. I thought even the 90w variant is only supposed to reach 1230Mhz. Or am I just not understanding something? Thanks. -
Thanks for confirming, repped! So no joy to get this here it seems, and the Indian version is bound to be at least 2/3rd expensive, if not double.
Seems Dell alienware m15 rtx is the only way if warranty is needed then..? -
Anyone have luck sourcing a 2nd power adapter (230W)? I tried one on eBay but the barrel was the wrong size...HIDEvolution had a backorder.
-
Welp gentech says it's "probably" shippings fault. As in, it took a week to get to me, and I guess they claim the LM application was messed up from it being sideways or something during that time. Who knows. Anyway will be sending it back for a reapplication. Will have to do fast shipping one way or another this time.
-
PLEASE HELP:
New GS65 2080 Max Q came in yesterday from Gentech PC...it's been a myriad of issues. Had to do a clean install just to get Steam to run without crashing. Can't even get system info to load into 3d Mark. But here the real kicker:
Time spy score - 4031
Firestrike - 10,984
Cinebench - 1198
Something is very wrong. I'm not even close to other's benchmarks. I'm about to run more tests to narrow down the issue. -
Stock driver btw, haven't even begun to start that process.
-
I found someone with a full 2080 bios that MATCHES the same GPU and Rev ID. I've asked this person to send it over to me.
Once I get it, cross your fingers and hope this doesn't blow up my laptop lol...sk3tch, seanwee, falldragon and 1 other person like this. -
Great news. Looking forward to checking it out.

Your CPU score is fine, especially for a completely stock unit with no undervolt.
Your GPU scores though...
Have you used DDU to fully uninstall your GPU drivers? I would also go into airplane mode as you use DDU in safe mode so microsoft doesnt auto-install stuff for you. -
As I’m about to flash, I get a new error that stopped me dead in my tracks...
Below is the error when flashing from a 80w to a 90w. Not a big deal, makes sense to me.
But...
When I try to flash the full 2080 bios, I get this error
After seeing that error, I backed out. Unless someone can explain this Board ID subsystem and explain it to me, I won’t be flashing to the full bios. Feels WAY TOO RISKY for me...

Thanks for testing and even risking it. Sadly I don't know about the ID either. Perhaps there might be hardware differences we havent accounted for, between the max q and normal versions. I was sure that with pascal, the max q versions were simply firmware coded for lower power envelope, but this time something else might be different.
-
It could be. I went through the trouble of finding my Kill-A-Watt and running Cinebench to choose one of my CPU profiles that pulls a certain amount of watts lol. Oh well.
As an FYI, this firmware came from a GE75.
It could be that it’s also a MXM card. Not sure though...
For now, we know what can be used “safely”.
