Is there any way I could go about figuring out information about this or someone I could ask?
I see a whole bunch of people have done it and if there's no extra wear I don't see a problem with doing it but if there is, I doubt that's worth the extra 1000 score in firestrike. If there isn't, free performance upgrade!
-
It might be.
I tried 2 different XPG SX8200 PROs, luckily my retailer is top notch! <3 Computer Alliance (Brisbane).
Both had different firmware revisions. Sadly I didn't write down the revision for my 1st one.
Anyway, both had the same issues. I first noticed speeds were not as advertised, I thought that for the price and my workflow it wasn't a big deal (about 2500/2700).
I swapped it for another with improved read/write around 2800/2800 or 2900/2900. Different firmware but alas same problem.
I mean it works IF you can avoid any sort of crash or forced shutdown. But no one is free from the occasional BSOD. Or freeze and forced shut down. It would stop working once that happened.

I don't know who to contact for this to be honest or how to figure out the information without having the circuit diagrams at hand.
Even if the distortion levels are high, I wouldn't expect to affect it soon. Its more of a long time thing, in the tune of 2.5-3.5 years.Last edited: Jul 29, 2019 -
Faced an identical issue with my 1TB XPG SX8200 PRO I installed into the 2nd NVME slot. Worked fine for a day until it refuses to boot into BIOS or windows and gets stuck in the MSI logo splash-screen. Removed the drive and everything was back to normal. It's bizarre...

Man so bummed out, got it on sale, pretty good price and amazing reviews.
To bad is failed and took about 16 hours of my life troubleshooting.
Ended up selling for $15.00 loss, so not too bad.

I had that same exact issue directly after I installed dragon center. I had to remove both hard drives, put it all back together so it would boot to BIOS and then updated the BIOS to the latest version and that seemed to have fixed it. I had to boot windows in safe mode before it would actually boot properly however. Never installing that again.

Just bought the 2060 GS65 version from Best Buy and been having some issues with videos and streams on my external monitor. When I try to watch a twitch stream, if I move my mouse off of the video player, the stream video freezes and audio continues to play until I move my mouse back on top of the video player. When I watch a video on youtube, if I move my mouse off of the video player, the video stutters for a second while still playing audio then resumes playing. This only seems to happen with my external monitor (HDMI connection), with no issues when using the laptop screen. I've updated my Intel Graphics Drivers and the NVIDIA ones, but can't seem to fix this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Edit: The issue was with hardware acceleration being on, turning it off fixed this.Last edited: Jul 29, 2019 -
So I flashed my laptop with the Razer 2070 Max-Q BIOS, plus another one after the core clock wouldn't budge past the default. Both Razer vBOIS' will not hit boost clocks, which is pretty detrimental considering that's the entire reason for doing it. I was wondering if there was any reason why the GPU is stuck on base clock when flashed with a different vbios. When I'm on my stock BIOS it does work fine.
Everything else works fine in both BIOS', just not the boost clock. Maybe I need to use the Asus one? -
Uninstall your NVIDIA driver's and reinstall them and report back. (Preferably using DDU)

Guys,
I think I may be having trouble with DX12 titles. BF V works fine in DX11 mode, but crashes on starting in DX12 mode. Same goes for 3DMark. Firestrike works fine, but TimeSpy crashes on starting. Anyone know whats up?
Edit 1: Already tried using DDU in safe mode.Last edited: Aug 1, 2019 -
That seems to have worked! Yay!
This is my score with the 90W vBIOS
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/38169907
I found another vBIOS from Razer with a 90W target and limit instead of the normal 80W target, 90W limit. Do you think it would make any difference? -
That is significant increase in graphics score, but I'm pretty sure you can do more!
-
https://www.3dmark.com/fs/20039075
Well there's your more. I don't know if I can get it anywhere past that haha, unless you guys have any advice. I've already done the CPU wattage adjustment and messed with all the C states. This score is with a +190 on the core and +850 on the memory, on top of the Razer 90W target bios. -
Does mini dp work?

I don't know. I don't have a mini dp cable unfortunately.
Fortunately I just ordered one to try it out! I'll report back tomorrow, thank goodness for Amazon shipping. -

I just purchased this same model from best buy and I want to upgrade the ram. Could you please tell me the part number for the ram that you installed. -
I flashed the 150w 2080 vbios onto my GS75 and it kinda works?
However its stuck at base clock (1380). Uninstalled drivers using DDU and reinstalled them. No dice
Any suggestions? -
Try limiting max voltage to on MSI AB.
Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk -
The voltage now is oddly lower than before I flashed the 150w 2080 vbios. It used to go to 0.73v but is now only around 0.65v
I put the limit at 0.8 volts but its not doing anything since the voltage is a lot lower than that.
GPU-Z and Hwinfo64
Update: Voltage locking in AB does nothingLast edited: Aug 5, 2019 -
What is the avg power draw during a game? -
It seems to draw a stable 150w during load but when measuring from the wall its using less power than when the 90w vbios was used.
Looks like Hwinfo64 is misreading the power draw. -
I bought this single 16gb stick from crucial and it runs just fine in dual channel with the stock stick that already came with the computer. This stick is at a much better price now: $64.99:

I just purchased this laptop from best buy. It came with 1 stick of 16gb ram. I want to upgrade to 32gb and go dual channel. I cant seem to find what kits are compatible with this laptop. Can you guys let me know which one you used.

I used ADATA
SODIMM DDR4 16GB (1x16G) ADATA 2666MHz RAM PN AD4S2666316G19-R
It doesn't OC as well as my stock Kingston RAM. It gets to 3000 MHz but at CL 19

Any brand is okay but make sure to get a matched pair of DDR4 SODIMM. You can choose to go with stock speed or higher speeds for overclocking use. -
An unmatched pair is also OK for milder overclocking according to several reddit users.Though a matched pair is the best.
And prioritse getting a pair with Samsung B die over a higher specced pair with other dies if you plan on overclocking the ram.Last edited: Aug 6, 2019Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -
I was looking at this kit on newegg
https://www.newegg.com/corsair-32gb-260-pin-ddr4-so-dimm/p/N82E16820233989. Im probably not going to be overclocking the ram at all. I mainly want to get dual channel to help with FPS in some games. maybe Ill add a 1tb 970 evo while im in there.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -

Hello everyone - I'm wondering if you can help me out and give me a little bit of insight into what settings I might need to adjust. I had purchased a MSI GS65 Stealth-483 (240Hz, nVidia RTX 2060 GPU 6GB GDDR6, 9th Gen Intel) from GentechPC. I got the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut applied on CPU and GPU and got the thermal pads as well.
While the GPU is running pretty nicely (81C max in Overwatch), the CPU seems really hot. I do both video editing and play games and haven't tested much with video rendering but playing the first game of Overwatch on the laptop, I am getting 100C CPU under load, which is causing a lot of stutter in-game and honestly makes it pretty unplayable for me.
I don't know a ton about undervolting or adjusting settings, but can anyone let me know if:
- This kind of temperature is normal? (from what I read in this thread, most people are seeing around 93C under load on stock)
- What kind of settings I can apply to adjust these temps?
I appreciate any help or insight you can provide!
Edit: For reference, I am in a room with ambient temp of about 24C.

Your heatsink is probably not seated correctly since some of your cores are at high 70s and others at high 90s. But it doesn't seem to be a case of bent heatsink either. I think the paste hasn't been applied properly. You should ideally be seeing max temps of 92-93C on CPU package and 75-77C on GPU (mostly at around 72C).
In terms of undervolting, drag the slider to around -130mV in voltage offset to start with and keep lowering it by 5mV after stable runs of TS bench on Throttlestop.
You can also try undervolting the GPU via afterburner by modifying the vf.Last edited: Aug 8, 2019 -
Thank you for replying. I had e-mailed Ken@GenTechPC and he had said that 100C is normal with the Kryonaut applied because it's not a good paste for the thin heatpipes in the GS65 (I wish they would have told me this on purchase, since I had to wait 10 business days). I had also asked if the paste might have been applied incorrectly because I thought the same thing, but he assured me that he "can repaste 10 times with Kryonaut and the result will be the same."
He said I can return it and he can apply liquid metal to the laptop (I'd have to pay for shipping, wait about 10 business days again) and that should put me at 92-93C under load. It just seems weird to me because everyone I see on stock machines have around 93C anyway, so what's the real point in liquid metal if it's just going to take the temps down to what the stock laptop is already running (stock seems to run cooler than what I have with Kryonaut)?
I read into and tried undervolting -125mV and disabled turbo boost, anything higher seems to freeze the laptop. It's definitely improved on temps, but they're still running 94-95C under load.
Would a GPU undervolt make much difference? The temps on the GPU seem pretty good at 81C under load.Last edited: Aug 8, 2019 -
I've undervolted and capped my multiplier max at 35x when all 6 cores are under load.I haven't changed any GPU settings (2060). Fan setting is on default, in performance mode it does make a few degrees difference but I don't like the noise.
To replicate your scenario, my PC room temp is also 24C. I played one round of Overwatch quick play (mainly max settings - FPS capped at 144). game lasted 11 minutes.
Modifications: Repasted with Phobya NanoGrease Extreme and replaced thermalpads with Fujipoly pads. I use an elevated laptop stand on top of a bench to make it a standing desk and props up the laptop a little to improve airflow.
Average temps are CPU: 70ish (cores range from 66-73) and GPU: 69.
Max Temps: CPU mid-80's (core range 73-86) and GPU 76.Y060N likes this. -
Thank you very much for providing a bit more information for me and I really appreciate you trying to replicate my scenario. Would it be possible to take a screenshot of your Throttlestop settings so I can get a better understanding? I'm honestly am a noob when it comes to undervolting - I've never done it before as I haven't needed to, so I just want to make sure that all my settings are correct.
Based on what I read, I had gone into the power settings and set the CPU max to 99% (I read this stops turbo boost). I kept everything else default on Throttlestop and made both the CPU and CPU Cache undervolted by -125mV.
I read that I'm supposed to uninstall the Dragon Center if I'm undervolting but others said they hadn't, so I'm not sure if it's overriding some settings or if it conflicts with Throttlestop. I have a custom fan curve on Dragon Center, but it's very similar to the auto settings anyway.
My multiplier used to read 45T but after I made the CPU max 99% it shows the multiplier at 26. -
I haven't found anything against dragon center further than that one post. I don't like it because it's clunky and silent fan replaces it all for me, but if you absolutely need something from it I haven't seen much evidence that it's going to hurt anything.
-
Thanks for letting me know. I thought it was pretty clunky too but people say Dragon Center throttles. I went ahead and uninstalled it and installed Silent Option instead. Still wondering if I have the correct settings on Throttlestop.Last edited: Aug 8, 2019

Regarding the mobile RTX GPUs in the GS65, has anyone determined what successfully allows for flashing different vBIOS? On the 1070 version it was pretty much size dependent, but from what I am seeing on this thread, the RTX roms are 1,023 KB which would open up the possibilities greatly for flashing other vBIOS. I've read through all of the posts mentioning vBIOS, and see people having success with some 90W flashes, but nobody showing greater than that. Also, I've only seen mention of 2080 cross flashes, but not seeing the performance differences. I'm currently considering if I want to upgrade to the new GS65, but trying to decide which one to get. If anyone can share which vBIOS they've used and on which GPU, I would appreciate the info so that I can look into this further.
-
Update:
I installed the ram and ssd in less than an hour. Definitely was easier than I thought. Thanks again for your helpKevin@GenTechPC likes this. -
I'd give it a go flashing a Max-P vBIOS to my MSI but I'm not sure about crossflashing and if I'm going to break anything. It's an expensive laptop for me. If I won't break anything by just flashing it and it would be a long term issue, I'll do it just to see if there's any good performance gain.
-
There are no guarantees in life, there is always a chance that crossflashing would brick your GPU, so I wouldn't recommend trying if you are uneasy with that possibility.
-
Can anyone with a RTX2070 or RTX2080 post a photo of the 230w power supply part number or a link to buy? I have a 2060 with 90w BIOS and I have power drain in the battery with BF V and other heavy games. I want to use 230w ps, is this safe?

Odd request, but I can't seem to get the Nvidia Optimus to work correctly on my new GS65. Trying to get it to work so the laptop can last around 6 hours on charge when I'm out and about. Only managing to get 4 hours so far with normal youtube, web surfing, and productivity use.
Even when I don't have anything open, the Nvidia card is still in use. Despite setting the offending programs to use the integrated graphics instead in the Nvidia Control Panel, it still shows as using the dedicated GPU. Here is a current screenshot showing a bunch of windows programs and Dragon Center using the GPU.

Try going into "graphics settings" directly in Windows 10 as pictured (in addition to what you already did via the Nvidia interface) and change the options for the problematic programs to "power saving" or integrated and see if that fixes your problem.
Hope this helps

Download "everything" search tool and you can type in the exact name.exe and it I'll give you full path. Then do steps described in the post above and sent them all to POWER SAVING.

Hey Guys, just got my GS65-666 in the mail today from Excalibur PC through Amazon. Initially my CPU temps went to 90-95. I'm really not sure what is going on with it. They did come back down to idle at 50-55. It's the RTX 2080 Maq Q, and i9 9880 CPU variant. Anyone experience anything like this? It does seem to jump up to the 80's and 90's sporadically. Not sure if it's a bad paste job or what.
Secondly, I'm coming from a Razer Blade 17 Pro w/ the 2080 Maxq and 9750. I expected to get better scores on my benchmarks, but I'm actually quite a bit lower (around 10%). I'm not sure if it's due to thermal throttling of the CPU or what. During the benchmarks, the CPU seems to hit 90-95, sometimes higher. It's not overclocked at all currently, nor undervolted etc. I won't due that until I'm sure that there's nothing wrong .
With the Cooler Boost enabled on the MSI, my latest scores improved somewhat:
MSI GS65
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/8182787
Graphics 7439
CPU 7954
Razer Blade Pro 17 - 7703
Graphics 8383
CPU 5280
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/38612954?
Why are the two Graphics scores that much different? Any thoughts on what I can do to improve it? Is it the VBIOS on the MSI that's causing it to be so low?
Thanks everyone! -
MSI has 80W VBIOS. Razer 90W
Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk -
So is that 10W difference for the VBIOS that much of a difference in the benchmarks?
And I've seen people mention you xLima as far as flashing the higher W Razer VBIOS to the MSI. Would you recommend it? Is it difficult to do?
Any link to a walkthrough and resources?
Thanks for chiming in.
