Lol idc, the mod doesn’t do anything enless you are hitting PL anyway. And I wasn’t. Just wanted to hit 10k tbh![]()

Anyone here game with open can(??) headphones? Like those sennheiser ones. When you crank up the fans is it very noticeable when you wear those? I'm using a pair of closed headphones so it's not an issue right now.

how are you finding the witcher? i just got rainbow six seige for cheap on steam ran the benchmark and get avg of 200fp max of 330
-
Using Steelseries Arctis 7 Wireless and can’t hear the fans on coolerboost (150%). Installed Silent Option today though and have them running just at 100% max to preserve fan life though.

My GE75 comes with 1 single 16gb ram and it has huge impact to the performance of AC Origins.
I’m considering buying another stick of ram to tackle the issue.
Any ram in 2666mhz c19 will do? Even it is only a 8gb ram?
I heard that after opening the laptop, there is a possibility that you cannot perfectly seal it back. Anyone can give me some advise?
Thanks! -
I suggest you buy exactly the same chip. If not possible, you are better off buying a new 2x8gb or 2x16gb kit and selling/using your current 16gb. This way you are not likely to have ram misconfiguration or timing issues.Kennypc1026 likes this.

Just bought a Adata 16gb 2666 c19 DIMM
I think it should be fine, wish me good luck.
Btw, any hints on opening the case?
I’m gonna try using a credit card to open it. -
After all the screws are out use the sdcard slot to lift the lid a bit. Once you have it up slide your cc slowly along the opening and itll come offKennypc1026 and evangelionpunk like this. -
Won't there be any issues if you use unmatched ram sticks? Or is that only an issue if you're overclocking?

I'm planning to buy MSI GE75 Raider 050 model.. I will be coming to new york in April and plan to buy there. any advises anyone?
-
I just picked up the GE75 with the 2080 and 32GB on GentechPC - had to take advantage of their new year's sale for repasting and improved thermal pads.
Super excited to get it! I'm on an older Sager with a 980M and it's starting to struggle sometimes.
I'm already used to a ~3 hour battery life, so I figure this one will be better. What kind of battery have you folks managed to get out of it (with or without undervolting) in just normal use?Xeonorth likes this. -
Lucky. I'm still waiting on mine from GentechPC.
Should be shipping in a few days though.

Check eBay for another stick of SK Hynix HMA82GS6CJR8N-VK if you want the same as OEM. They go for super cheap.
CL19 is super slow though, it doesn’t meet JEDEC spec for 2666MHz. Get some CL15 if you want an upgrade.Kennypc1026 likes this. -
What is the fastest memory this could realistically run and use? Does it support XMP?
-
Yes it supports XMP, you need to unlock the BIOS and enable the XMP profile though.
IIRC someone has 2666MHz overclocked to 3400MHz or something. -
They overclocked the cheapie SK Hynix HMA82GS6CJR8N-VK to 3400 stable? Nice.
Wondering how a pair of Gskill 3200mhz would perform and OC then. -
I believe it was stock Samsung on a GS65. I think it was Hackness that did it.evangelionpunk likes this.

Can you enable it through the unlock code?
Also these should be good eh?

Yes, go into the overclocking options menu and enable overclocking, then go to memory and you can set the profile to default, XMP or custom (which lets you set your own multipliers). If you push it too far and can’t boot, a CMOS reset will clear memory profiles IIRC.
Check amazon, I got my HyperX there for like $50 cheaper vs MemEx. -
Interesting to see an extra heat pipe vs the 2070.
That one directly over the SODIMMs looks annoying.
I would have preferred if MSI’s engineers scrapped the physical drive and included a larger battery/added a bit more processor cooling, what with the prevalence of cheaper large M2 drives. They really need to ditch the tri-post design on the CPU heatsink.Last edited: Feb 12, 2019 -
It says on the review it has the AGA port???
-
Ya that exact kit is $5 cheaper on amazon lol and more expensice on newegg.ca. Rather pay the $5 in case of an issue Its local atleast.
Honestly don’t think I really need 32gb atm. Maybe when they go on sale. -
If you’re not in a huge rush, keep it on your amazon wish list and check now and again, their prices fluctuate so much. Sometimes things randomly go 25-50% off for a day.
MemEx has horrible return policies and RMAs tend to be a pain, so I avoid them whenever I can. I liked them better when they were a little hole in the wall shack across from Chinook that catered exclusively to enthusiasts and IT pros. These days they feel like Best Buy or something.Lunatik likes this. -
IPR is easy.
-
Waste of money though, to me. Why bother when I can replace things for free with the actual provided warranty? Newegg RMA’s are super easy and automatically issued with a UPS label.
Last IPR I used was on an asus mobo that failed, they would not replace it right away and insisted on spending a week “testing” it. A board that would not post or power on... I ended up just buying another one as I wanted to make sure nothing else had failed.
And they push IPR so damn hard. Like to the point that I just want to walk out when they won’t drop it.
My girlfriend grabbed a 960 evo for me last weekend and they basically didn’t want to sel it to her without IPR... Super condescending to women. -
Has anyone seen a review detailing the emissions like notebookcheck does? Looking to compare fan noise.
-
Open without damage, thanks!
I will have to return to the store this afternoon as I was dumb enough to buy a DIMM instead of SO DIMM...Lunatik likes this. -

i just repasted my ge75 a few days ago, with paste on all parts, not just the gpu/cpu.
now i read some places that paste is not suitable for parts beside gpu/cpu because of possibly gap and viscosity of the paste.
should i redo it with fujipoly pads? (i didnt do it the first time because i couldn't find sellers in norway)
if i should, does anyone know which thickness for the specific parts? all the same thickness or do some parts differ? images from my ge75 before cleaning, if they differ, it would help if someone outlined which parts
https://imgur.com/a/c8K4ChA
thanks. -
You pasted everything? Most everyone tries to use LM for cpu/gpu and fujipoly for the rest.
What paste did you use and what differences did you see? -
everything yes, used thermal grizzly kryonaut.
since it was thermal throttling before, i dont know exactly how much. but it stopped throttling for the most part. from 98c to around 85ish on cpu and from 75c to 65c ish on gpu. on very heavy load it will start to get close to throttling temps again
games became alot more stable. before it felt like tearing and laggy jumpy frames, now it is smoother and higher fps.evangelionpunk likes this. -
It's listed on the "Other Features" that it has AGA port on the review.
-
So an improvement compared to stock
If it were me, I would get the fujipoly pads and LM on there. Then undervolt and optimize so you get max performance with no throttling.SupremeUnicorn likes this. -
i do not dare to use LM myself
i have undervolted cpu, was experimenting a little bit with undervolt gpu yesterday, will see how that goes with some more experimentationevangelionpunk likes this. -
So what? I did not wrote that review, ask the author@tomshardware.

I just got my GE63 with 2080 and have been fiddling it for a few hours. I opted for smaller variant because my last gaming laptop was a brick. But since GE63 doesn't have it's own area I thought to ask here. Also I'm utter novice in hardware stuff.
I noted that when gaming (AC: Odyssey) temperatures go to over 90 when I start the game (spiking at 95c at worst according to Core Temp). Then cpu cools off a bit and settles around 88-90c. Fans were too loud for me without headphones. I don't know much about voltages etc. or undervolting. I however saw that the CPU was constantly over it's base 2.2Ghz frequency (at around 3.5Ghz I guess), even when idle.
From BIOS I noticed Intel Speedstep (or was it speedshift, can't remember now that I'm out of the BIOS) was on. Turning it off reduced the core frequency to base 2.2Ghz and temperatures while gaming stayed at around 70c-75c even in 4k and I didn't notice any kind of drop in frame rate with my wooden eyes (and Steam fps counter). Do you guys keep it off or on?
Is there a reason to use Speedstep in gaming or otherwise (ie. am I crippling my new laptop and bottlenecking my GPU)? -
I'm not asking anyone. I'm just pointing it out as I've found it as a weird error on the review.
-
Well you got it on the last part. AC Odeyssey is very demanding and not the norm, but if performance is acceptable to you, keep it as is. Some games benefit more from high core frequency (even if usage is not as high) to boost framerate up. So depending on the game, you will need more speed to keep or exceed 60fps.Dannemand and Scramble74 like this.

It is recommended to use proper thermal pads instead of paste, so when you have the chance, you should definitely change it. But before that, thickness should be found out... hmmm it's either 0.5mm or 1mm, but honestly I don't know. Hopefully someone else could give us a hint.Dannemand likes this.
-
This is what mine looked like. I cleaned it all up. I put thermal paste (ArcticMX-4) on all the parts they had it on and tested to make sure there was contact with the heatsink and then cleaned up again and then readjusted the amounts to make sure everything was covered
Max now is 83C when benchmarking, usually games are max 79C
If I knew what size to use for everything but the cpu and gpu I would have gone with fujipoly pads. I'll look into it more next spring when I do the annual repaste.Attached Files:

Yeah I am going to need to know the size as well before I repaste mine. I have pads and paste but I don't want to put the wrong size.
-
Your going with the GE75 afterall?
-
Nah, I am still set on the Gs75. But there are no limits to how much I want to tweak things. If I had the Ge75 I would be tweaking it to be like a GT75. With my GT73 I tweaked it until I almost made my CPU explode.
It's my curiosity
But obviously I only do it for benches, and then I tweak it down for actual usage. I like having good sustained performance at acceptable temps.
But if the GS75 does not convince me, then I might either go GE75, or next time I upgrade (prolly in a couple of years or at least a CPU+GPU gen upgrade) will consider it.
What I think is that GT will become niche, and the GE will be the new gaming king series. I just hope they don't kill off the GT series, but market trends are evil and want everything to be as thing as possible. At this rate, the next gen GS series will be two sheets of paper ductaped together.Atma, Dannemand, custom90gt and 1 other person like this.
