Regarding to this, I also noticed that, but as @Falkentyne mentioned that some laptops don't even have the heatsink covered the regulators around the CPU. I was thinking maybe they did that with a reason, perhaps the CPU isn't drawing that much current to heat up the regulators to the level that something might get damaged?

I'm seeing the same thing too, reverted back to 399.24 too.Falkentyne likes this.

Manufacure date says 2018/08 is that batch affected by the rivet issue?
 -

It should not. Mine is 2018/07 and it seemed like it was addressed. Install stock Steelseries drivers from MSI website, and then if that doesn't work I suppose it's worth a shot to disassemble. The upside is that all you have to do to verify condition of the flex cable is lift the battery, this will give you visual access to the keyboard flex.

Has anyone gotten a bug when you wake your computer from sleep ThrottleStop will exit? and it wont let me open it until I Restart, is there a solution to this?
 -

Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It might be stuck while the system enters sleep mode. Check its process in Task Manager when the problem happens after waking up. Terminate it and try to reopen it after. -

Can someone explain to me what IccMax value is in Throttlestop, and if i should change it?
 -

I'm sure someone can but that's an entire overclocking guide.
If you're asking then the answer is "no". -
It is the maximum allowed current that the cpu is allowed to pull.
 -

Unforunately its not there and I HAVE to restart to open it, I have set it on task scheduler too

Just an FYI, Optimus works again with nvidia drivers 416.34
 -

I guess I am just unlucky, still couldn't get it to work properly with latest drivers
I have a friend that confirms that it is working correctly for him :::sigh:::

I used DDU in safe mode to uninstall the old drivers and did a clean install of the new drivers. If you didn’t, it’s worth a try.
 -

Yeah I did the same, what intel GPU Version and Windows build are you on?
Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk -

I don’t know the numbers but I updated the intel gpu drivers a couple weeks ago and ran the windows update yesterday so I’d say the latest versions.

Do you guys recommend from your experience on this laptop to use msi silent option or dragon center?
Also has anyone tried the Opolar LC06 yet on this bad boy? Was wondering how it worked for yall, I was thinking about getting one to use when I Game on it, is the CPU if im looking down at the laptop on the top left or top right? Seems like from dissassembly videos its on the top right, but I notice when my CPU temps are up its always the top left getting hot/hotter than the right sideLast edited: Oct 13, 2018 -

Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Silent Option. Dragon Center is hot garbage. -

Flipped Mobo makes it go on the left.
CPU is in the right side of the Mobo when the Mobo faces you, but once installed upside down it ends up being in the left of the laptop.

Lol I haven’t been able to check but it works so no bugs...that I’ve noticed at least.

till can't get it to work after DDU...

 Nope =(
I used DDU, CCleaner, Clean Install, etc. Practically did everything. -

Are you on 1803 or 1809? If 1809, is it an upgrade from 1803? Have you tried reverting it back to 1803? -

I'm on 1803 (the patched version). I'm also running the latest Intel driver. I tried resetting the bios to defaults and that didn't work.Last edited: Oct 16, 2018

I'm on Windows build 1803, Nvidia driver 416.34 and Intel driver 25.20.100.6326 and I do have Optimus working. However I did constantly have to go into Nvidia Control Panel and manually change programs to use the integrated graphics. I have had Steam, Spotify, Silent Options, GeForce Experience, Dragon Center (prior to removal), Nahimic (also prior to removing completely and replacing with Realtek HD Audio Manager), and others trigger my 1070 for no reason. I leave "Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area" turned on in NVIDIA Control Panel so I can see what's turning it on. After about a day of running programs and figuring out what triggered the discrete graphics and forcing integrated graphics for my programs I haven't had any issues with Optimus getting stuck on the discrete graphics.
 -

I'm utilizing both of those driver versions as well. The GTX notification says it's inactive but my amber light won't turn white. Battery life is also at 3 hours -_-
I went back to 399.24 and it works again. I sent the bug report to NVidia last week so I hope they fix this. -

There can be some program that tries to use Nvidia but doesn't show on the notification area. I had to go thru running programs and one by one switch them to use Intel on Nvidia Control panel. Web browsers using hw acceleration, MailWasher pro, Steam, Skype etc etc, can be a tedious job to go thru everything.
 -

I tried globally changing everything to use the iGPU as well, no good. Really, all of these changes shouldn’t be made just to make Optimus work.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Agreed, but globally wasn't enough - and then some stupid (old) games wanted to run on Intel and had to be forced to run on Nvidia.
 -

If the older version works but not the new version then it has to be the driver. Perhaps Nvidia is missing a key while revising the driver and its components. You did the right thing by letting them know.

Neither Firefox nor Chrome switch to nVidia on mine. Steam switches to nVidia on at startup and quickly switches back to Intel. I don't use MailWasher or Skype so I cannot speak to those. I had to explicitly set Tokyo Xanadu to use nVidia because it defaults to Intel which is not quite up to running the game at 1080p.
Oracle Java on the other hand is notorious for forcing the use of discrete graphics so if you're running Java apps then that might be the problem.
NB: I'm running 399.07 because I haven't had any need to run anything newer. -

Please help. Intel control panel won't open.
 -

Haven't used my PC in a couple weeks and I'm having the same issue. No iGPU use. I'll see what I can find out but I doubt it's due to an update since I haven't updated anything in a while.

It happens sometimes because of optimization with certain versions of driver, so we will have to sit and wait for a newer release of MSI AB. -

I have been looking around and haven't seen this issue mentioned. For some reason if I game on my GS65 when the battery charge is less than 100%, the full charge capacity will reset itself and computer will not charge any further. If I drain the battery down below "90%" so that it will charge again, the capacity will go back to normal. The battery indicator reads like it is fully charged but HWmonitor shows the full capacity is lower and that the battery has a high level of wear. Does anyone else have this problem?
Just to clarify, the battery is not permanently worn. The battery only shows wear if I try to charge the computer when it is under load. For example, the battery will be at 70% charge and I will plug the computer in to start gaming. While I am gaming the computer will stop charging and read that it is at "100%". However, the battery really never charged at all, instead the capacity of the battery changes. This bug will not go away until I drain the battery to "90%" and charge it all the way to full again.Attached Files:

That is as good of an explanation / characterization of the odd charging behavior of MSI laptops, but it's "normal", and is also true on the GT80 and GT73 laptops - more or less, as I didn't put those actions to that behavior before.
The charging seems random, following some pattern of the charging circuitry, and is meant to keep it from continually charging to 100% - to vary the charge level from about 91% to 97% or so, only occasionally hitting 100%, to keep from wearing out the battery.
You can sometimes force it by unplugging and replugging in, but I think that's actually just hitting the random button again, sometimes it works sometimes it just sits there not charging further.
If you figured out a way to force that is consistent, that's great. But, I wish MSI would allow a button / control element so as to get a 100% charge when needed. Probably would be abused by some, always wanting 100%, which is why MSI doesn't allow it.
Thanks for the observational info post.

I get what you are saying and have seen that behavior before as well. It will charge to 95% or 96% instead of all the way to 100%. However, in this instance it is a different kind of behavior. The battery is reporting 100% charge but it is actually at only 70% charge. Looking at HWmonitor shows that the battery incorrectly reports a 32% battery wear level.hmscott likes this.
 -
Yeah, I got that part ok, but I didn't observe it on the GT80 / GT73 - wear level never exceeded 8%, so that part is new if it's across others GS65 laptops, hopefully the GS65 owners will check their laptops and report back here.
 -

I'm not seeing what Sopey15 is reporting. I let my battery drain down a bit, put it under load and plugged it in. The battery is still charging while under load. It has gone from being at 85% to now 93% at the time of writing this.

Thanks for the reply. Are you on the latest bios and ec firmware? And what version of windows? I’m trying to figure out if it could be a software issue or a hardware issue.
 -

I am on the latest EC but not BIOS (I'm on E16Q2IMS.10D). Windows version 1803.
 -

Is there any issues with rolling back the bios? Maybe I should try it on the same one as you and see what happens.
 -

I'm not sure. I was going to update the BIOS when I was tweaking things around for thermals and battery life, but I decided I didn't need to yet so I never did. Got thermals under control and >9hrs battery with my UV. I know someone on the latest EC and BIOS and I can see if they have the same experience as you.
 -

That sounds good, I would really appreciate that. Wanted to add that I just started at 85% battery, plugged in, and ran Unigine Heaven with Ultra settings and the computer was charging properly. I was playing Steep last night when I had charging issues so I'm going to try it with a few different "loads" and also plug into a kill-o-watt to see what kind of power I am pulling with each of them.hmscott and Kevin@GenTechPC like this.

Yup, please make that the BIOS & EC are up-to-date, and please do this one first.
If the above task is done, then check AC adapter, do you have a spare one that you can test with? A possible scenario with this is a fully-utilized AC adapter (or defective one) that stops providing more juice at certain level which is not providing and meeting its designed capacity. -

Right now the BIOS and the EC are up to date. I do not have another adapter that I can use. When running Unigine Heaven I am pulling about 130 watts from the wall. When playing Steep I am pulling about 155 watts. I wonder if something is up with the charger not giving enough juice. It seems like the computer is not charging fast enough while playing Steep. Somehow this tricks the computer into thinking that the battery is fully charged and the capacity is reset to match whatever my current charge level is.hmscott likes this.

Anyone recall where the option to enable/disable hard drives is located within the bios? I’m thinking my secondary drive isn’t being recognized.
 -

Did you ensure that you didn't put a SATA drive in the nvme only slot?
