Incredible. Now you've truly got yourself a seriously OP laptop![]()

You can't put the heatsink directly on the die.. I mean I didn't actually try but what you do is repaste between the IHS and die.. I didn't actually test fit to see if you can put the heatsink directly on the die.. If that works (and I doubt it will) temps would definitely be even better.
Most stock heatsinks have a height limitation where you can't touch the die because it's expecting to meet the IHS, not the die.. If that makes any sense.hmscott likes this. -
It's definitely much colder overall! So impressed with this little machine.hmscott likes this.

Some game temps with an undervolt of -150mv on CPU @ stock 4ghz.. All games were on their maximum settings (EPIC/Ultra,etc):
Overwatch
World of Warcraft (This game never seems to use much GPU/CPU, and acted the same on my GT62VR and my 4790K desktop with SLI Titan X.
Witcher 3
Temps are well under control.. nothing scary anymore since the delid.. Witcher3 was seriously in the 85c range before the delid.hmscott likes this. -
Excellent results on the delid, that's awesome
The other awesome thing to note, is that the CPU utilization at 29% while GPU is 99% when running TW3... that's gotta help keep the CPU temp down too.
If you can find the game with the most sustained CPU utilization vs GPU @ 99%, and let us know what the CPU usage is - then test same on the GT62, that would also be interesting. To see the lower temps + extra headroom of the 6700k additive effect - maybe measure the Wattage at the wall for both as well.
Maybe you can run a nice OC 4.2-4.4ghz day to day now too

Diversion - How's the battery looking? Can you run the same test as last time and do a comparison? Assuming desktop version will be about an hr short.
*edit - just saw your post on reddit, seriously 4 hours? You pulling a joke on us man?

I got the same battery life as the GT62VR
I'd say around 3.5 to be safe.. or up to 4 hours.. Medium brightness. I mean, i wasn't doing anything super taxing and there was about 6 reboots on batt which seems to take a big hit.. All in all, either laptop roughly performs the same on battery.
-
So I downloaded every single Z170 motherboard bios MSI offers on their support pages (around 15 to 20 bioses?) and tried flashing every single one.. They all came back as not supported on the barebones
It seems the BIOS the barebones has has a 6mb size.. everything I downloaded had a 16mb size.. If MSI offered a GT branded Z170 laptop, we'd probably see a compatible BIOS but so far i'm coming up empty.hmscott likes this. -
Pretty nice score. How were your temps during the test? The test does tax the CPU to 100%, even if only for a minute.
My score is 700, just FYI. -
My temp is right there in the post
-
I am tired, can barely keep my eyes open. I blame overwork!
Excellent temps btw. I get over 80 myself on the same test. Impressive cooling there!Diversion likes this. -
Try Wprime 1024M stress test http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/phoenix-software-updates.794490/
Run as admin. Select 8 threads, save, bench and enjoy
Increase clockspeed if you want higher max temperature

We have the same EC version, but different bios version.

I have never experienced CPU deliding but it looks to be a must try!!!
Amazing temps at 4.0ghz and stock voltage. If you can play most games while keeping the CPU below 60 (or even 70) degrees, I call it a massive success. This thing beats the GT62VR but only if you delid the CPU.

Can you dump your BIOS and send it over? Use Afuwinx64 to do it.. Let me know if you need help.. I believe the command is "afuwinx64.exe dumpedbios.rom /U" .
Thanks! -
I have Svet working on seeing if he can unlock/mod our stock BIOS.. I will take care of the donation if it's possible.
-
wPrime 1024 finished at 191.002 seconds and peaked at 75c CPU with an undervolt. CPU at stock 4ghz. And zero fan noise through entire test

This is from stock 6700K in Hwbot's database http://hwbot.org/submission/3192665_pilu_wprime___1024m_core_i7_6700k_2min_37sec_888ms
Have you any sort of throttling? You remembered to tick 8 threads? -
Interesting, that is a much faster time.. And zero throttling here. I am using the latest version of wPrime of 2.10.. Maybe that's the differentiating factor? I don't know what version that bench you linked was using.
-
I mean the Wprime benchmark in the link I posted, was the Hwbot version 1.55
Yeah. Version 2.10 will give an other results. Benchers use V1.55 for posting in Hwbot.Diversion likes this. -
Ran version 1.55 and pulled 160.9 seconds (which lines up nearly exactly to the bench you sent over).Papusan likes this.
-
Yeah. This score is more in the line for Stock 6700K and Wprime V1.55
But still a bit low. The normal is more around 157/158 sec. But the benchmark score can vary from the normal, depending what you have running in the background

@Diversion amazinc results with that delidded CPU. I think I'll pick up some liquid metal and get to delidding soon.
Did you try and reseal it or just stick it together with the paste?
I'll check my BIOS soon when I get back.Diversion likes this. -
No, I actually just scraped off all the adhesive (or as much as I could from the cpu side) and just did the floating mount method where I just rested the IHS back on the die and clamped it down.. It shouldn't move, there's a lot of pressure on the IHS.
But yeah man, seriously recommend it.. Getting a razer under the IHS was easy and it took me maybe 3-5 minutes to get the IHS off.. Just don't point the razer downwards, always put an upwards pressure on the blade to keep it away from the CPU pcb. -
Could be because it only maxes to 3990mhz because the BCLK clock is set lower than 100mhz. .I'm not sure why, but that's what the BIOS is forcing it to.
-
Or you could go with one of these:
http://rockitcool.myshopify.com/
I did this on my 6700k, and it was easy peasy.
-
That's awesome! I wonder if upcoming Kaby will fit this.. I may actually order this for future delids.Keith likes this.

I have BIOS Build: E16L1IE9.100

Same as mine?
-
Wow thanks for the link! As someone who is absolutely terrified of manual delidding (i.e. with a razor), I might actually give this a try.
-
It's literally a walk in the park. Put the CPU in. Seal up the housing. Turn lever slowly until you hear a "pop". Unseal housing. Voila!
-
The Sound Blaster Cinema 3 software on the barebones in my opinion provides a much better soundstage and quality filter to the speakers than the Nahimic does on the GT62VR. Even though the speakers are the same, I think the Soundblaster software makes them sound incredible.. At 100% volume they are so loud and clear.. Bass is great too.
-
What install order did you use by the way? The M5 Pro was really picky when it came to the order at which drivers were installed, I'm hoping the barebones isn't the same.
-
I literally had to reinstall Windows to get it to work, but that was fine because I needed to anyways. But yeah, basically you HAVE to use the realtek drivers from the same CD provided that also had the Cinema3 software on it. If you let Windows10 automatically download and install the newest Realtek drivers it will never work as it just screws up the registry completely and the Cinema software will always say there's no compatible device. Once I figured it out (and it was worth it) i'm in love with these speakers now lol.
-
@Diversion can you send me a pm with a link to that software I've been looking everywhere for that software! The drivers on the website didn't contain it as far as I could see. And I have no CD-ROM driveDiversion likes this.

I use sound blaster cinema 2 on my titan for the very same reasons. Nahimic sucks compared to sound blaster, even if it is better than stock sound.
It is great to know the barebones does work with sound blaster

Eh guys/gurus,
I just seem to happen to be searching for a new gaming nb and i am torned looking between the GT62vr, vs MSI 16L13 vs the GT73... I saw on the first page that this barebone nb got advantages especially the desktop cpu part and dunno if the gpu is upgreadeable to only an mxm one.. I've seen that the screen uses Gsync for both the GT62 and the barebone but its not 120hz...
This thread is sooo long and it's making me dizzy just be clicking page after page... Could you guys help me out the difference between the official and the barebone one? And where to get one? Can this barebone be use with a Pascal GPU? If yes where to get the gpu heatsink that is compatible with pascal gpus? .... I went to Eurocom website and I can't see this model on their page though..
Kindly help... Many thanks -
Check your PMs haha. I responded.
http://www.eurocom.com/ec/configure(2,384,0)ec
For the price the Eurocom Tornado F5 simply cannot be matched for the performance offered.
The GT73 would be an excellent choice if your'e looking for a 17" laptop with 120hz G-Sync. Of course it comes with a larger footprint and weight. It all comes down to needs. It's also a lot more expensive. -
If you can wait till tomorrow I'll send you the realtek and soundblaster cinema 3 packs! The sound difference is amazing.Talon likes this.

Thanks for the information.. Can't hardly wait to get one soon... BTW i need to add this
M.2 (2280) SSD Storage; 22mmx80mm ? or by default it has one already? sorry for this noob question silly question.. hehe -
Thanks brother.

Is there a noticeable day to day difference between a PCIe NVMe SSD and a SATA SSD? I know the PCIe thrashes SATA SSDs in benchmarks, but how big a difference does it make to everyday work? Is it like 2-3 seconds or more like 10-15 seconds?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk -
You will notice a difference only on heavy threaded software, those that write/read frequently on the disk. NVMe has a lower payload on the protocol vs a SATA device and thus a lower latency when accessing the same data. Windows itself needs a more optimized NVMe driver however to reap the benefits at max. As you stated, mostly a 2-3 sec difference for general use, but on demanding loads it can go up to the 10-15 sec difference

Eh guys... where can you get the bios and firmware for this model? I can't seem to find it in eurocom.. Can you please link it or send it to me via message here? thanks....

I notice a difference from normal SATA SSDs to PCIe/NVMe ones.. But most people will not notice any difference.. Honestly even a good quality SATA one like the Samsung 850 Evo is more than most people need. If you're a speed junkie like me though, check out the new Samsung 960 Pro/Evo. Over 3000mb/sec read rates! And about 2500mb write speed!
I would recommend the new 960 Evo m2 because it's fairly priced for a ton of speed, although it uses a buffer cache to achieve those speeds on the Evo.. Whereas the difference in Pro models is that the actual SSD space is directly accessible by the PCIe bus and maintain ultra fast speeds without a buffer/cache.hmscott and ThePerfectStorm like this. -
