Try sharing the same benchmark score, that's 3dm, not fs - the futuremark tool isn't advanced enough to compare scores between different named tests.
The FS score should be available as an independent entry - check your "My Results", click on 3dmark, then again on Fire Strike section.
That's ok, I pulled the FS score out, and here is the comparison:

Looked all around the laptop but don't see any switch for that. Also don't understand how disabling Fast Boot would help. I disabled it but after restoring default settings BIOS remains inaccessible. If I just disable it without restoring Windows doesn't boot.
About G-Sync you surprised me a lot. If I enable Fast or V-Sync it seems to be working. But why? I mean, G-Sync can't work with V-Sync, right? At least I always thought that. Also if Fast Sync is enabled, there's no FPS cap but I always thought that G-Sync caps FPS to the refresh rate of a display. Also I didn't mean that it locks to 40 FPS. It drops to lower 40s. One time it's 60 as it should, next it's 40. And it's very noticeable when such drops happen. That never happens with G-Sync disabled or when G-Sync goes with Fast or V-Sync. -
I jus tlooked in the manaul for the GT62 and there is a small hole on the bottom of your machine, it's called a battery reset switch in the manual, I think this just resets the CMOS but I'm not positive.hmscott likes this.

Yes, sorry, found it. But it didn't help in any way.

Clock down your 6700K to 6700hq BGA speed aka @3.1GHz and max temp will be the same as idle temp with 6700hq. Break 50C will be very hard, almost impossible. Maybe you forget that there is a fan in your laptop
-
Once you have sorted out any minor issues you may have with this laptop (mine were all driver related - other than that flawless) this really is an amazing piece of kit.
I love this laptop, the temps, design performance are all better than i hoped for.

Hi,
I bought the gt62vr 6RE a few days ago but i am having a really hard time finding a proper laptop backpack that doesn't look like a gaming backpack. Last year i bought the Ogio renegate for my macbook pro which is an excellent backpack but sadly the chunky msi doesn't fit in. I bought it for professional use (CAD use mostly and NOT gaming), so it's on the go on a daily basis to work. I searched the forum but can't find anything. Any ideas? Thanks -
I use a Everki Titan to fit my GT73, it's built extremely well and doesn't have that gaming look that I wanted to avoid. My friend has a GT62 and bought a smaller version of it, I think it's the Atlas. It's expensive but will hold up to daily use.

That looks great! I'll check it out! Thank you!

You're welcome.
I'm dealing with Everki about a rip on an interior pocket and they are extremely easy to work with and are standing buy their product. -
No doubt. It's been my wish list's number one since August!

I'm writing this not for gamers but for professional CAD users who deal with large amount of 3d objects like solids, and surfaces. I couldn't find anything on the internet with regards to whether i should get a quadro or the gtx 10 series. For the same money i could only get the m4000m quadro with 4gb of ram and the so called stability and support for professional users of the quadro series. I am so happy i didn't listen to any of these guys who strongly support the quadros. For the same money i opted for the gtx1070 and my god how glad i am. It's been a really joyful experience and it is the first time of my 10 years of experience using cad software and specifically Autodesk civil 3d that hasn't crashed even once under any load. I have a dell workstation desktop 5810 with a k4200 4gb of ram quadro gpu, intel xeon e5 and 16gb of ram (6 months old). The gt62vr 6re is by far superior under any comparison i did. It's truly a beast. I just couldn't get happier! I love it!

Guys I reached a point where I really need to make a decision. Shall I order the GT62VR tonight or wait till the Kaby Lake version is out in early 2017? You can help me by answering the following 2 questions:
1. Do we have rumors or confirmation as to when MSI will release the GT62VR with Kaby Lake refresh?
2. Do we have insights on whether the Kaby Lake will have a smaller thermal footprint than Sky Lake or any other performance advantages?
Thank you!hmscott likes this. -

No, due to NDA.
There will be advantages to the new architecture, but I haven't come across any benchmarks yet that show thermals. We might not see much of an improvement in heat until Cannonlake.Last edited: Dec 27, 2016hmscott likes this. -
I would never suggest buying from the very first production line made for any laptops with newly released hardware. Even if, let's say, MSI confirmed there will be a GT62VR 7RE (7700HQ, GTX 1070), I would wait for at least a couple or three months, and that would be the sweet spot for MSI to correct the production and quality flaws and make near-flawless machines.

None of us will ever know such information because it's definitely an internal information within MSI. If it does have flaws it should be very minor and not really noticeable, but if it is severe then they will have to do a recall. So if you need one now then you don't have to wait.hmscott likes this. -
The flaws are not THAT severe, but call it like "getting used to the making of machines". The people who get laptops the moment they start being made have more chances of finding minor flaws than those who wait for the next production stacks. I recall people discussing their MSI machines based on the "production number". Some members had minor hardware and software flaws (wifi card, bezels and display) in the machines with a small production number (i.e those made in September after the announcement in August 15th early this year), but those with later numbers didn't!

When they make revisions, they change the PCB version, right? The most revision they had in the past was just one on an older model because of a motherboard replacement. And yes, this includes wireless cards when a revision is applied.
Other than that, most of issues are solvable through BIOS release.hmscott likes this. -
Alright, I couldn't agree more!
But again, I'd always advise, no matter what the circumstances are, buying a "revision" when it becomes mature enough (in terms of BIOS updates too, you made a good point), hence the waiting time.

Cool, this is also why some pro users sometimes complained about a firmware update *limiting* instead of *improving*. A new release can be a bug fix, or it can be a patch to avoid hardware from failing. But again, we will never know about the details.hmscott likes this. -
Thank you. Theoretically speaking, is the Kaby lake an improvement to Sky Lake when it comes to performance and heat dissipation while gaming? I'm assuming the cache memory is still the same.

So I recently purchased this machine with a 1060 and had Svet make me a modded bios. It flashed successfully and I have a ton of bios options. I am looking to see if there is a way to lock the multiplier on the CPU to the same on all 4 cores. Basically I want to see if I can force all 4 cores up to 3.5Ghz like you can with the locked desktop chips. Anyone know if this is an option and if so what it is called? I see changing the max turbo multiplier does not work upon reboot.

6700HQ is a great CPU for gaming, specially at 60hz. You will have a hard time finding a game you can't max with that CPU. The 6700K/6820HK excell at super high refresh rates, where they are needed in particular specific CPU bound games. Like battlefield one/4 on multiplayer with 64 players on max settings. And this is only for more than 100 fps scenarios.
Very nice score
You are basically identical in performance to my previous GT80 with 980M SLI and yet you only have 1 GPU.
Kaby lake will not be an improvement, or a relevant one, over skylake. Kaby lake is the same underlying architecture and has the same performance per core, any additonal performance comes from higher clockspeeds. Judging by intel's current modus operandi, you will only get 100mhz more. In my opinion, it is a useless upgrade for current skylake users. It would only be recommended if it was widely available, but thats only because it would make no sense to get skylake if there was already a kabylake model.
Basically, CPU wise you get no improvements. The additional improvements depends if manufacturers use the new CRM238 chipset, but it will depend on laptop model, and that's about it.
If you have the money, I would buy right away
The 6700HQ is completely locked down and you won't get 3.5ghz across 4 cores, only single. The only way to change that might be with significant modifications that may not even work. Intel super locked down all CPUs that are not 6820HK or 6920HQ.custom90gt, DukeCLR and hmscott like this. -
Ok thanks, I was starting to figure that was the case but decided I would check.hmscott likes this.

Hey guys,
So I've recently got myself an MSI GT62VR 6RE Dominator Pro. Apart from some minor issues (high potched noise coming from processor that was fixed by disabling CPU C-States in BIOS) and weird crashes that I believe were caused by Dragon Center (it froze along with the crashed game) which I believe was fixed when I uninstalled that monster (still needs testing), I was happy with the purchase. Until today.
I noticed that after leaving the computer off or just in sleep mode for an extended period of time, waking it up would show the MSI logo and not go past it. I don't see Windows booting up or anything. Only a hard reset seems to help. After that it runs flawlessly until the next time I leave it off for longer.
I think this is extremely weird and have no idea what might be causing this. In fact, I'm so confused thst I even thought it might be because that my parents house is colder than mine, but not that cold. Still, I wasn't experiencing the issue every time like now back when I was at home. It happened one or twice, that's it. Now it's happening every time.
Any ideas how I can resolve this?
EDIT: It turns out uninstalling the Dragon Center didn't help with games crashing. It just happens less often, but still does. So, if you guys have any idea how to handle this issue as well, that would be much appreciated.Last edited: Dec 26, 2016 -
I had the same issues with 3 of the 6RE from their September production of the laptop. Never resolved the issue and Im about to send the third one back after trying some odd suggestions from different people around the net.
When it works, it does so incredibly well, however it consistantly crashes/fails to boot.
Out of curisoity when was your 6RE manufactured? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
This sounds like an extended version of hibernation. Let's try disabling it instead.
Launch an administrative command prompt and then run this command below, see if it works.
Code:powercfg.exe /hibernate off

1)Doesn't matter. Kaby Lake is 2-3% faster than Skylake in all benchmarks. In games you won't notice a thing.
2)Both 45W chips so same thermals. Supposedly Kaby is better or more efficient at viewing high def movies, but again irrelevant because you have a 1060 or 1070 gpu which is infinately faster.
My advice, buy one right now on Amazon while they are on sale for $1499. They are on sale because Kaby will be out *soon*, but do you really want to wait and spend $1799 when you can get exact same thing now for $300 less? I just bought one today.encheels, DukeCLR, hmscott and 1 other person like this. -
I've bought this laptop last week and so far I've been very happy with it. After coming home from work today I had the nasty surprise to discover the WiFi and Bluetooth functionality had died overnight. I'm posting this from a phone, I can't really search through all 189 pages of this thread, apologies if this has been asked before.
Things I have tried/tested so far:
-only ethernet shows up under device manager, WiFi or Bluetooth are missing in action.
- I installed the latest version of killer wlan drivers and scm.
- I can't enable WiFi in scm.
- it's not in airplane mode and I tried rebooting.
- I tried the Windows problem solver.
- I set wireless to max performance in all power plan settings.
Anyone who can please help me with this? Possible causes or solutions? -
My friend who purchased one of theses had this same problem, along with many other issues, and he returned his. I would remove all the Killer suite stuff and download the driver only version of their software, use the ethernet for this. I would also be sure to use this laptop as you intend to, to see if you can flush out any other issues before it's too late to return it to the vendor. So if you plan on gaming be sure to get a nice long session in to be sure it's not crashing and the temps are ok.
Good Luck -
I dont have a gt62vr but i do have a gt72vr. While leaving it off for a good period of time to cool down like 9 hours, when turning it on everything would kick on except the screen would be black. You couldnt do anything except force power down and try to power on again.
I updated the bios to the latest off the msi page and have not seen the issue for over a week now.
The latest version ending in 112 fixes the "hangup issue"
Looking at the gt62vr page it looks like the latest bios 111 fixes a hang up issue also. Although it appears to deal with samsung ssds. But still it sounds very much like the issue with the gt72vr.

Guru help on the GT62VR please:
I have owned a ton of laptops, I use them for business as well as gaming. Every laptop I have ever owned in the last few years has had SSD Password option in the bios. This is extremely important because if you lose or have the laptop stolen, anyone can pop out the drive and use it. Well Samsung 850 Pro and almost all new SSDs have encryption on by default and if you put a SSD Password in the bios, the drive can NEVER be read without it. Since this laptop oddly didn't come with that option in the bios (but my Sager also didn't), I called MSI and they said it is not in the bios sorry! Well my Asus gaming laptop with the exact same specs has the option and even Sager emailed me a bios with the option when I requested it. I am on the newest MSI bios also. Every skylake laptop mobo and bios has this feature, they are just not giving it out for some reason or putting it in the bios for the public. Any ideas on how I get a bios with SSD Password, it is VERY important and ridiculous that MSI just says too bad. I may have to return the laptop without it. Thanks -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
AMI BIOS has this feature but MSI disabled it. Contact their support again and see if you can request one. However, they may not grant such request because custom BIOS is usually given to their direct customers.hotstocks likes this. -
Can't you use Bitlocker or something like that? In our company, all our harddrives are encrypted with bitlocker, precisely for that purpose.
EDIT: It seems data encryption is much more recommended that hard drive password, as a security measure.
"There’s no real reason to use a hard disk password. Encryption provides much more security and is more convenient to use. Skip your computer’s hard disk password feature and encrypt its hard drive if you actually want to protect your files."

hi guys im new to the forum as i had a problem for my 62vr
Rendering problem appeared when i played overwatch.
There's nothing happened months ago but it just keep happened this few weeks
i tried to update all the drivers and clean reinstall the nvidia driver also.
does any guys have that pronlem recently and how to solve it?
IF finally i choose factory reset to reinstall windowsm will it affect the data from D drive?
cheers. -
WRONG! Good SSDs like Samsung 850 Pro have built in zero performance loss hardware encryption. It is always running even if you don't set a password in bios. But if you set a password in bios the SSD is altered and will ONLY function if the password is put in the bios. You can do NOTHING with the bare drive anymore. In fact I had to send a SSD to Samsung to make it useable again by me since Asus's SSD Password would not accept special characters, and my Sager did. So the Sager and SSD had the password "P@ssword", well the Asus would not let you type the @, which is retarded, but I digress. So I had to send it to Samsung to get it wiped and unlocked. That is how good real hardware encryption in an SSD is. Bitlocker is a joke. So once again I am asking an MSI tech to release a proper bios with this feature not purposely blocked out.
-
P@ssword doesn't seem like a very strong password
Joking aside, that's actually very interesting. I didn't know SSDs had hardware encryption built-in like that. I guess I'm behind with the times...

hey everyone , i need some help i bought a msi gt62 dominator pro back in october and have had issues and that is performance is not steady , also some micro stuttering while gaming , for example i would run csgo i could see fps drops from 250 to 160 . so i decided to do some firestrike benchmarking and every time i do it , the results are dramatically different , as too what i have done so far to try and fix it , i did a clean windows 10 install and only put on the basics needed here some of my recent benchmark results , any help is needed . This is from this morning http://www.3dmark.com/fs/11345401
This is from last night http://www.3dmark.com/fs/11338123
As you can see the performace drops are huge , to be clear the laptop is in performance mode in settingsLast edited: Jan 7, 2017 -
A recent user reported similar issues and there were suggestions to:
- Update bios to 111 released by MSI in December 2016
- Modify Vsynch and G-synch settings in the nvidia control panel and in-game. A combination of the 2 settings should be present to prevent fps drops. I forgot what was the exact combination.
- Remove geforce live experience
- Uninstall dragon center
- Update or rollback nvidia drivers to a more stable version
The above list is based on my modest memory of the conversation. Please use the in-thread search tool and look for "micro stutter" and you will be rewarded with lots of insights.
Finally, it would be great if you can report back on the results as many of us are still deciding on the purchase. -
Your panel is only going to do 60 fps, 150 or 250 fps is irrelevant. You will get the best performance, battery life, less heat, and more stable frame rates with no tearing using gsync from the nvidia control panel. Other then for benchmarking, there is no reason to let your 1070 go over 60 fps on this panel, unless you have an external 120hz monitor of course.

If the Tornado F5 could handle it, I wish MSI would bring a 150W 1080 and a 7820hk to the GT62VR with some cooling modifications. I'm fairly sure it could handle it. @hmscott

Yes i highly recommend updating the bios and all firmware.
My gr72vr would not boot on a cold boot the first time and sometimes crashed with an error in game.... a bios update solved both issues.
My bluetooth no matter how many times I installed the drivers for and rebooted and installed msi scm software to try to be nice it would not enable. Device manager showed it greyed out. It wasnt until i loaded the EC fw that it started to function.
After that for good measure i updated my video card bios too.
Basically if you are having weird issues that most people dont have and cant get past then update your bios and firmware.
