Hey All. I’m hoping for some major help here. I own a MSI GT62VR 6RE. I’ve upgraded my M.2 drive, added an additional SSD, but that’s it.

I play World of Warcraft BfA, and I can not for the life of me get the screen tearing/lagging to stop. Here are my settings below. I thought G-Sync was suppose to prevent that.... This has a G-Sync display and its enabled.

If anyone can figure this out, I will be in your debt forever... I’ve tried everything I can think of.

Sorry for the multiple picture posts.... It will only let me upload one picture per a thread.

I notice gsync only works if the fps is less than 60. Anything above, then it will happen. You could set v-sync in the game settings OR you could run the game in Windowed Mode.

WoW is now forced to only run in Windowed Mode or Full Screen (Windowed Mode). And I have my Max Foreground FPS capped at 51 in screenshot #2.

Is it possible for me to upgrade this display from 60hz to 120hz gsync?

I had frametime issues in games such as Rainbow Six, all this caused by Nahimic software. Simply closing it from the icon tray whenever i run these games solved the issue for me.

Screen tearing can't be avoided even with gsync and vsync off, sometimes you notice it more, some less. If you enable vsync + gsync and cap the fps to 58 you shouldn't get it though.

What I don’t understand is if G-Sync sucks on 60hz and isn’t worth it, why can’t I just disable G-Sync, enabled V-Sync in game, and upgrade my screen to 120hz to get even better FPS???

You can disable g-sync through the nvidia panel.

    Hi Guys

Hoping someone can help, I've had my GT62VR since it came out with an I7-6820HK

I've been noticing stuttering when gaming for some time but couldn't figure out why. While running XTU in parallel I noticed that my CPU is current limit throttling. I'm not sure how to fix this, its not as bad when running at 3.97 GHz but anything higher and the CPU down clocks to around 2.5 GHz randomly when gaming. If higher than 3.97 I also get random thermal throttling but temps are fine at around 60-70 degrees.

Any help would be appreciated, its driving me nuts!

Do you have the latest video card drivers?
Mobile 10 series card had a stuttering issue unless you set the power limit to high performance.

Yeah fully updated, I don't think it's GPU related as I have XTU running on a separate monitor and the stuttering corresponds to when it shows current limit throttling

GT73VR owners with that cpu had power limit throttling issues too. I think they could be related.
You can try search up on their owner lounge, i remember at the time Falkentyne and Ultra Male speaking about it. I do not want to tag spam them as they may not like it.
Back then i think they solved it by changing some setting in XTU (can be done also on unlocked bios). If i recall correctly it was system agent ICC max.
Anyways i'll post the link below by the quick search i made on google while replying to you.

Read also the previous pages, there may be more info that i do not have time to check at moment.

Thanks so much for this! I'll defo have a go and see if it helps. Only downside is I don't have unlocked bios but will try with XTU. I posted on svet forum about a custom bios but he didn't reply. Dunno if anyone knows if I should make a donation first?

It should be possible on XTU, without any bios unlock afaik, there is a setting for it.
Imho it's better to do it in XTU either way because if anything goes wrong Intel XTU will just reset the changes you have made on next boot and you'll be fine.

I don't know how it works with Svet mods to be honest, you can always try to ask in MSI board if anyone has done it before, i'm sure there are people out there who did :)

    Still love this machine.

The 1070 model still runs cool and super quiet - something the RTX gen hasn't been able to recreate.

Recently fit it with the 120hz TN panel and it's really given it a breathe of new life. Giving up G-sync was a shame, but the trade off was definitely worth it.

However, it's left me wondering whether there were any 144hz IPS panels which'll fit this beast. Anyone had any luck with that?

Nice! 144hz must be great! How easy was it to change the panel?

I got 4k version so I don't think I can change it as I think the connector is different :(

    Unfortunately it's only 120hz (TN). Model N156HHE-GA1.
Looks great though. Totally worth it. I really notice the low response time compared to the IPS G-sync panel it came with originally.

Would be interesting to know whether the 4K model has any upgrade/sidegrade options too.

    @heliada ?

Is this the BD Prochot issue or something else?
Try using Throttlestop 8.70 and uncheck BD Prochot and see if that helps. Also go in your BIOS and set VR Current Limit (ICCMAX) to 1023.
If this only happens when the video card is also being used at the same time then I honestly don't remember. There was an EC issue on some of these laptops where the MSI Battery Boost (NOS) flag was missing from a few registers, causing BD Prochot to trigger if you exceeded 150 watts of system power.

Yeah sounds similar. I had the gt72vr 6re with 6820HK... if it happens at stock @AsadM then it is bdprochot (throttle to 800MHz). You can see this being triggered in throttlestop too, not in XTU (XTU reports thermal throttling indeed). As for downclocks when OC'ing, it might be too low current setting in the bios. I am not sure how accessible this is on the gt72vr/62vr as I don't own it anymore, MSI replaced mine under warranty for gt75 8rg. Which I sold cause I was done with troubleshooting laptops. Now I enjoy the freedom of tinkering on my PC when stuff goes wrong, including blindly exchanging parts. Cause hell ye I can.

PS. disabling bd prochot will result in random downclocks to base speed (2.7GHz I think), but doesn't seem to kill performance as much as 800MHz.

PSS. to get rid of bd prochot issue, undervolt the gpu to 0.85V or lower using the msi afterburner voltage curve. (yep I know it's weird to mess with gpu when you experience cpu issues, but trust me on this one and give it a shot).

Okay, this is a long shot... but is there any way to get G-sync working on the 120hz panel I recently added to my GT62VR 6RE

I only ask because the GT63 8RF uses the same display as the one I recently added my to GT62, except the GT63 has working G-sync.

Is this controlled through the BIOS? In which case, would it be possible to flash the GT63 8RF BIOS onto the GT62VR 6RE?

Your display must support G-sync. And Windows should also be installed in UEFI mode.

Rip my 2 years old gt62vr...

Black screen, no light indicators (hdd, caps lock, etc). Power led still works, can control turbo boost with button next to power. Screen is just black, no backlight, no bios beeps etc.

What happened to your laptop? damage? disassembly? update bios?
There may be a problem in the BIOS, you need to hold down the power button for 60 seconds with the laptop turned off, or remove the BIOS battery. It is also possible the multicontroller has failed (ec controller) Then you need to replace it or re-solder in a specialized service center. I had a similar problem. The controller was poorly sealed and the laptop turned off.
Also, this problem may be if the video card does not work. Since the output image is only through it.

What do you mean by this?
The 120hz N156HHE-GA1 panel I've used does support G-sync - however only on the GT63 Titan. But seeing as the GT62 and GT63 are essentially the same laptop, you are able to take a N156HHE-GA1 and fit it inside a GT62 to replace the LP156WF6 (the 1080p 60hz G-sync panel it comes with).

You should also have a G-Sync VBIOS version. Because for versions gt62 with 4k installed version of the Vbios For non G-Sync

Hi everyone, i'd like to replace the HDD on this laptop with a 2"5 SSD (The Samsung 860 EVO), i have a few questions which i hope you guys can help me with.
First, if i'm planning on cloning the HDD data on the SSD, what do i need? I want to get an enclosure to place the HDD in to rest and use it as backup, is that enough?
Second, what else should i do after cloning? I've read some people say their SSD wasn't recognized, is that a thing when you using an enclosure to clone?

    Thanks in advance!

As the clone is a perfect copy of the original I'd suppose it works identically. I have a clone of the boot drive on my both laptops. The older has eSATA external drive and can boot from it, the newer has boot NVMe SSD and internal SATA HDD, the clone is on the HDD and can be booted from it. 7 seconds SSD and 1.5 mins from HDD - that's the difference! But everything works from the clone similarly.

I apologize if this has been asked but I didn't see it in any searches.
Is it possible to replace the keyboard on the GT62VR with one that is lit per key and not just the zones that it comes with? I know that's a little more common in the newer laptops, and it would be a nice upgrade to this one. It's starting to show it's age but still going well for how I use it.

    Thanks,
    -Jeff
