If you have deleted the recovery partition, then unless you previous made a backup image on DVD for recovery purposes, then you are a bit stuck. One option could be to send it off to MSI for them to re-image the drive for you.

You can ask them for a factory restore image too.

Hey guys,
i'm currently wondering if i can get a better sound quality with THX audio.
I installed both latest drivers (realtek and THX), but the sound doesnt "feels" that good as expected.
My settings on THX:
Surround on and the bar is where arrow is (default)
Crystalizer on and bar on default (at the arrow)
Realtek settings:

Ok, had to get some work done so I've just been using VGA. But back to the problem. Below are the files that come up in troubleshooting after the restart.

C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-3357203-0.sysdata.xml

Black Friday is coming soon and I have noticed a few of these systems on sale...I am cautious to buy one as they are matte screens and I have only ever had glossy screens...I have done a little research and both have good and bad qualities...Am I over worried about getting a matte screen, are any of you disappointed in it?
Also I can't find the answer regarding raid 2, are all GT70 models equipped to use raid 2 or are only a couple models...I was about to buy one with raid 2 from gentech about a month ago but the guy I talked to via email would give me a fair price so I declined... -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Right let's just be clear.
Super raid = 2x Msata board from the 3rd generation intel CPU machines
Super raid 2 = 3x Msata board from the 4th generation intel CPU machines
These are separate from the terms raid 0 and raid 1 for instance which describe the method which two drives are combined. All the new machines support running raid.
In machines that come without mSATA drives as standard will ship with 2x2.5" bays (and optical bay), any machine that has one or more mSATA drives will ship with 3xmSATA slots and 1x 2.5" bay (+ optical bay). -
Regarding matte screens, I would advise you to look at one running before you decide. The matte screen on the GT70 has a slightly textured effect on it (difficult to explain), which you can see when a plain colour is on the screen (e.g white). Personally this does not bother me at all, and I much prefer it compared to dealing with reflections - but its not for everyone.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It does come down to what environment you are in as to what the best screen is.
-
For what it's worth this is my first matte screen, and I'm coming off of the vaunted 90% gamut glossy, and I don't think I'll ever go back to glossy.
I don't even notice the 'grain' people fault matte displays for having. Overall, this is a good screen. -
Something similar happened to me, the internet connection was laggy after updating and at some point I was even unable to browse the web, to top it off, my Bluetooth connection does not work at all, I have tried to get it working with the latest drivers which work flawlessly in windows 8.0, but they are a mess in 8.1.
I have repeated the process of updating to windows 8.1 several times, trying different combinations of drivers with no luck, i have decided to keep windows 8.0 and i will think twice about updating again. -
Which program is cheating ?
MSI Afterburner or Intel Extreme Tuning UTL ?
MSI shows my idle GPU temp are 42*c when IETUTL shows 52*c :-/ -
This is one powerful computer!

GPU-Z? HWMonitor?
Indeed it is. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It depends what kind of offset they use and which sensor they are looking at, I use GPU-Z for my readings.

I ran into issues with my Intel Wireless-AC card, as well, but I figured out how to make it run properly. Here's what I did:
The stock installation came with the Killer drivers (needed to control the hardwire LAN), the radio switch driver, the SCM, the KLM, and a non-functioning wireless-ac driver. Sometimes I could get WiFi, sometimes not. Both WiFi and BT would switch on and off sporadically. All of the listed drivers are affected in this repair/upgrade scenario. The Bluestacks application is also affected, so you may need to download the update for that after you upgrade the OS.
1. Download the newest Intel ProSet Utility & Drivers pack from Intel. (This fix may work for the Killer WiFi card, too, so download the newest version of those drivers instead if you have that card.) Also download the proper drivers for your OS (or whatever OS you plan to upgrade to) for the SCM, KLM, and radio switch.
You can get most of these drivers from HERE. The Intel drivers are HERE.
2. Uninstall the WiFi driver. Be sure to check the delete driver box, and uninstall all BT drivers, too.
3. Uninstall the SCM, KLM, and radio switch drivers from the Programs and Features list in the Control Panel.
4. Restart the computer.
If you are upgrading to Windows 8.1, then these next installations will be for Windows 8.1 drivers while you are still running Windows 8. If upgrading from 7 to 8, the same situation applies... install Win 8 drivers while you are still running Windows 7.
5. Install the Intel ProSet Drivers (or Killer drivers if you have that WiFi card).
6. Restart.
7. Install the KLM utility/driver.
8. Restart.
9. Install the radio switch driver.
10. You guessed it... restart.
11. Finally, install the SCM utility/driver.
12. Restart.
Most items should be functional at this point. Hopefully the network drivers are working so you can download your upgrade if you have to.
13. Upgrade the OS.
That's it. I know this works for Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro. The other situations need experimenters, so please volunteer if your drivers aren't working properly now or after an upgrade. You will need to downgrade again prior to this fix if you have already upgraded.
Oh, and if you're like me and you think the KLM should run prior to login (so you can see the keyboard to type in your overly complicated Windows password), then do this:
Run the following command: control.exe userpasswords2
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password..." box, and click Apply or OK
Next, download this zip file: View attachment Autologoff.zip , and extract it directly onto your C: drive.
Import the xml file (after unzipping) into your Task Manager.
Make sure the NetLogon folder is shared with your username with Read-Only permission.
*Optional: If you want to disable the lock screen for this, use the Disable regedit in this file: View attachment DisableLockScreen.zip . If you need to re-enable it again for some reason, use the Enable file included in that zip.
Restart.
What this does is automatically logs you in, then immediately locks the screen again, whereupon you will need to enter your password, just as you normally would to log into Windows. This little loop allows all of your startup applications to load, including the KLM. Pretty soon the keyboard will light up so you can see the keyboard to enter your password.
Best of luck!

What is the build quality of the laptop like? Meaning how sturdy is it, and does it flex a lot when you pick it up? Or is it very rigid?
-
Very rigid; the screen is obviously less rigid than the main body of the laptop, but the screen is very sturdy as well.
-
I lift the laptop with one hand all of the time. It's really solid.
-
This is kind of an odd question:
When you open the lid of the laptop, do you have hold the base down to overcome the friction of the hinges? That is how my old Toshiba is, and it is pretty annoying. If I want to tilt the screen back a little I will push on the screen, but the keyboard and everything will just lift into the air, which is frustrating when my hands are full. -
I finally purchased the Dragon 2 from Best Buy,its going to be here Tuesday afternoon. Going to be a long wait for the beast. Hope everyone is happy with theirs!
Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -
The the hinges of the GT70 are very sturdy but the base of the laptop is heavy enough so that the chassis itself will not lift when opening the lid. I don't have this problem on the GT70. You'd normally see an issue like this on low weight laptops.

Question regarding MSI Afterburner:
I tried installing MSI Afterburner on my GT70-20D but I can't seem to use the video capture function. Screenshot works fine, but I couldn't figure out what is causing the issue. I installed MSI Afterburner on my Alienware M18x which is running on Windows 7 and it worked fine. I'm wondering if it's a Windows 8.1 issue. Any ideas?
-
Anyone got Far Cry 3 on their rig? I just started playing and am trying to tweak optimal settings. Just curious how everyone else has theirs set?
-
Does anybody have any idea if they plan on redesigning the GT60/GT70 series? I'm wondering what they have planed for Computex Taipe 2014. I love the current GT60 3k Edition, but with 14nm cpu and 20nm gpu technology being release June of 2014 I feel as though the GT60/GT70 could be allot slimmer.
-
Even though I bought it from Best Buy,will the processor and video card still be upgradeable in a year or so time?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Maybe, it wont make a difference where you got it, but upgrades are never guaranteed, the processor can never be upgraded to the next gen no matter the system with very few exceptions.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
They will always have projects on hand, besides 6-month period is a long time for tech industry considering there are new stuff coming out all the time.
Slimmer version has to be GS70 for now, with 765M. -
Everything to Ultra except Post FX to medium or low (to prevent or drastically decrease micro stutters).
-
Thanks Slayer. What about MSAA Anti-aliasing, Alpha to Coverage and SSAO Method? What do you have them set on and what frame rates are you getting. I'd prefer to keep close to 60 or above if possible.
-
Well i already finished it months ago and don't have it installed anymore (could help to check my .cfg file), but i chose the Ultra preset settings and reduced Post FX like i said, FPS around 55-60 all time. Sorry can't help more than that.

I got my dragon today, its sexy as hell its the one ith 4700MQ processor but its still fast. Only one problem, when I go to Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements to test what i can run, I get 3.1. GB for my video card instead of 4GB its bugging the hell out of me. If anyone has a answer, can ya let me know please?

It will just be a detection bug.

Yes, it makes some funny finds:

Hi Guys,
I am eagerly waiting for my MSI GT70 2OD-039US, 1-4 days building time with some changes made.
First buy of an MSI gaming laptop. Always been a fan of ROG, Coming from a G74SX..... high expectations (obvious).
Cant wait. -
OK, I just got a random BSOD while playing Far Cry 3. The error I got was:
DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
Anyone encountered this? My GT70 has been running absolutely flawlessly up until now. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Did it only happen once? This is a software glitch and hope it's temporary.
Try updating your Intel & nVidia drivers to the latest version, see if they resolve the issue.

Okay so question about the SCM, is there a way to change the default when it boots up or adjust some of the settings? IE I would love to set the gaming mode to turn off the screen after it's been idle for some time or adjust those settings and have them stick.
-
Yeah Kevin, just once. I re-installed my Nvidia driver using a clean install. Haven't played much since then, but it's only happenbed the one time. Thanks for that.
I would also like to know if this can be changed. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Oh no, that looks like GPU problem.
Give MSI a call and ask them to take care of it, including shipping. -
Hey all. Got a 780m barebone model here.
The retail MSI one I hear has a turbo button on it? When playing games I use the FN+eco to game mode. Is that the same thing? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, the retail models no longer have a turbo button which used to overclock the GPU.
-
Yep, let's see if this time they fix it correctly.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Interesting because the iGPU controlling 2d, so it could actually be a memory problem.
I would have hooked up an external monitor to the dedicated port (HDMI and DP) to see if I got the same issue. -
Ill try that.
It occurs with 2d and 3d app.
Here's a poor video:

I did the test that you suggested and did not get the same problem on the external monitor, I mirrored the image and artifacts continued to appear on the laptop screen, but not on the external monitor.
Any ideas?
Thanks again. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It still can be nVidia GPU issue if the power LED light shows red while having artifacts.
Do you have any BSOD issues? -
No problem whatsoever, just the artifacts.
Assuming that they replaced or repaired the gpu when i did the rma, wouldn't it be unlikely for this to be the problem? Really bad luck? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Try disabling the internal display (in the intel driver panel is fine) and just use the external and run a game on it. If you get no artifacts the dgpu is fine and replacing it would do nothing.

Hey guys!
I am about to clean my GT70 and I want to put a dual-Boot Windows and Ubuntu under UEFI on the 3x SSD raid system. I currently have dual-boot on my raid system. My question is actually regarding the UEFI setting. As anyone tried this before? Are there any problems in making this happen? If yes, does anyone recommend a good tutorial to follow? I am just trying to collect as much information as I can before I try it.
Many thanks for any help!
