Like Meaker says
771MHz is stock clock.
797MHz turbo clock.
Both of these clocks are guaranteed to run no matter how hot it is inside the notebook
849MHz is GPU Boost clock. The GPU will only go this high if the GPU temperature is within a certain limit. Think of it as an extra bonus. MSI have great cooling system so its kinda guaranteed the GPU will run this high on GT70 anyways.
That 829MHz listed is probably a general rule made by Nvidia for all laptop OEMs to follow. However they can increase it if they think the notebook is capable of cooling it down if clocked even higher. MSI did that, they raised it to 849MHz. -
In the first pic I have my Logitech wireless plugged in and another USB extension wire plugged in right next to it without issue.
In addition, as you can see in the second pic, there are three total USB 3.0 ports. There are two on the left side of the card reader and one on the right so you have plenty of clearance for two wide USB 3.0 devices plugged in simultaneously.
It ships with Intel Rapid Storage Technology 12.5.0.1066. -

Hi Guys,
Ken recently posted his GT70 2OD video review:

It has DisplayPort now, yay!

Just found a MSI GT70 with 780m & 4930MX overview. Video is over 1 hour MSI GT70

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Not wired to the igp either
-
Awesome! There are reviews of desktop 4770k Haswell CPU hitting the web, and the guy is even much more gotter than IVB CPU, hitting around 90C with very decent coolers and 4.5Ghz overclock. While GT70 manages to run 4930XM (well, not OC) at only 63C, OMG. MSI simply rocks with this new improved cooling system)

Very nice video from gentech
Also nice find with the one hour video!
I cant wait to get my machine
even if it is the smaller brother
-
So, does this mean I can run it with 120Hz monitor without any conflicts? Or?
-

Is there any performance difference that matters between the Dragon edition and one that isn't with the 780M. It seems like from a gaming standpoint it wouldn't matter much.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
From a gaming standpoint no, the dragon edition has the looks and then 32GB of ram and the triple SSDs.
-
Only DP or HDMI also?

WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
Intel says it's supported in ProSet so I guess we'll get a driver update when the Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 is officially announced.
Can you put two USB 3.0 flash drives in the two USB .3.0 ports that are next to each other?
The wireless mouse USB adapter is small compared to flash drives.
I wanted to know the Raid Utility version not the iRST version. -

Hi Guys!
The Dragon 2 has officially LANDED! It's HERE!
I have posted unboxing photos HERE, and other info will follow. Please be patient with your request, as I have a ton of updating to do with the lead post, and right now, IT's PARTY TIME! I will be involved with setting up my new notebook, updates, security, benchmarks, etc., and DANG, just looking at this beautiful BEAST..... so don't bug me..... because it's time to PLAY!
ENJOY!
-
Looks stunning!
Congrats man, go enjoy your new laptop and then tell us all the glorious details
-
Congrats on the new system man. Enjoy it. Now get to work on OC tips haha! We need to get an unlocked Vbios as well. Also I wasn't able to get into the hidden bios like I was on my GX660. Has that been removed?
-
so if i choose even a single msata ssd i can t used additional 2hdds with this one ?
-
Hey owners---I heard the trackpad doesn't work at the same time as the keyboard???? That would be a dealbreaker for me.
-
Synaptics touchpad settings have it defaulted as medium sensitivity iirc. This will block accidental movement of the cursor when typing. You can adjust it by going to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse. Go to the last tab that's labeled "Device Settings" with the Synaptics Logo and click the "Settings" box.
This will let you edit your touchpad properties and adjust sensitivity so you can use the keyboard and touchpad simultaneously. . -
CrystalDiskMark please
The red aliminium is great!! Quite a view! It blends well with the surroundings too
Looks like the rubber nubs are a little bit lower than previous models. The notebook seems to be in a more "lay-low" position on the desk surface. This gives it a more aggresive look
The Dragon 2 edition is a bit pricey for me unfortunately
-
It also can display 3 external monitors at the same time with VGA/HDMI and mini Displayport.
-
Hey Ken
Do the newer models have a "warranty void if removed" sticker?
I haven't seen one yet
-
-
Very nice unboxing shots, -=$tR|k3r=-
Since we have already seen some benches around here, would you show us how the NOS works? Thanks
-
Could anyone be so kind and use GPU-Z or Nvidia inspector to find out what voltage the GTX 780M runs at when gaming and not gaming? That be great
Here is GTX 680M voltages
0.8370V
0.862V
0.962V
0.9870V -
Stock voltages
Idle 837mV
Game 981mV -
Still not being able to buy this thing in the Netherlands. Seeing everybody with this amazing machine makes me jelly as hell

Here is a really in-depth review from a reputable site Laptop Magazine on the MSI GT70 2OD 039US posted on May 31st.
Appears their benchmarks are relatively close to what I posted over the course of the last few days.
Interesting to note along with the benchmarks is the boot time. Not only are the game and 3D Mark related benchies virtually identical, it also appears the boot time is the same with my 001 as the significantly pricier 039.
I figured two 128 gig mSSDs in RAID 0 would have made at least a dent in the boot time when compared to a single 128 gig mSSD. Appears articles I have read in the past about SSDs and overall operating system and application load times were correct. It stated the speed benefit really lies in the 4k read/write performance for all intensive purposes with regard to boot time and application load times. Multiple SSDs in RAID 0 does not really increase performance in that area but does for video/graphic processing and such.

Owners's Manual
MSI finally posted the owners manual for the GT70 2OD here:

Thanks Ken!
I have been up all night, and still at it, so slug'in down RedBulls works for me!
Ahhhh, the elusive NOS! Don't you just love these trademark labels? Last time it was TDE (Turbo Drive Engine)..... and now we have NOS. What does that stand for, anyhow? The best I can figure is Nitrous Oxide System? Anyhow, on the touch bar, we now have the 'G-Panel' button, which when pressed, brings up the SCM (System Control Manager) screen.
So how does NOS work? Well, at the moment this is still a bit of a mystery to me. Seems MSI has handed us a new widget, and we are left scratching our heads asking, 'What the heck is this thing, and how does it work'? The system owner's manual only states, " G-Panel: Touch this button to activate the gaming gadget utility providing users an astonished and efficient solution in game playing". WOW, now that was informative, and not a mention of NOS..... least not that I have read!
As to 'NOS', web info is spotty at best, and only provide little clues like:
So now that I have you thoroughly confused, this is what I have discovered thus far. My best guess is NOS is tied to power management, control of the CPU clocks, and a mild OC of the GPU..... similar to the previous TDE. Pressing the G-Panel button and entering the SCM screen, you will notice a selection of choices for the 'ECO' panel. By default, the system boots in the 'ECO Off' mode. I then launched CPU-Z and noticed the following:
................ 1.) In an idle state, SCM ECO Mode = ECO Off.............................................. 2.) Idle state, SCM ECO Mode = GAME
I then launched 3DMark Vantage, and observed the following:
Score with SCM ECO Mode = ECO Off
Score with SCM ECO Mode = GAME
Notice between the last two screenshots, the CPU scores are nearly identical, yet the GPU score increase by over 6K!
Anyhow, I realize this isn't much, but we'll figure it out. Hopefully MSI will provide more info soon!
Seems MSI has erroneously posted the previous MS-1762 manual...... new owner's need the new MS-1763 manual, which should be on your desktop.

Congrats Striker! Welcome to the club!
How much did your 039 set you back? Assume yours shipped for Saturday delivery? -
Thanks. Really helpful

I'd like to buy the MSI GT70 20D but I want to know how are the temps when gaming.
Im not sure I'll go for a gaming desktop or gaming laptop. Do games run really smooth on maxed out settings? -
Thanks, but I think that there was a separate application for it. They have probably changed it.
-
Temps are very good on this laptop. And you should be able to run all current games at Max settings fluidly.
-
The new cooling system from MSI is awesome. Now its a lot more quieter than the new Clevo models. We are getting down to Asus G-series quietness. Well done MSI

Thanks for the information, Cloudfire. If I go with a 17 inch, I've now started considering the GT70-2OD along with the Clevo 17xSM, unless I go 3xxSM for SLI. I must say that the new quieter cooling system and the Samsung bus on the MSI GT70-2OD is definitely persuasive; however, my biggest concern is still heat, heat and heat... Will shared pipes and a single fan be able to handle the 780m + CPU over longer lengths of time under load. If so, then I am going to have to change three months of planning towards a Clevo purchase. Though still a few more things to consider, this would really be a tough model to pass over.
-
Can you provide a link to a 3dmark11 run so I can compare it with my own in their result browser, P not E? Thanks!

Just a little over twice as fast as my rig in 3dmark11 and exactly twice in fire strike. It's nearly all gpu the physics tests are close. 3610+675M.
-
Thanks a lot for your answer!
I really love laptops, they are so easy and doesn't need wires like with desktop.
I have some hard decisions and I want to get a gaming machine: laptop or desktop.
Are the temps really very good when gaming at hard? Like when playing high-end games like BF3 and other 2012-2013 games?
One most important question, how is the underneath of the laptop? Can i just open it and clean out the dust after some months or years?
So easy to clean it and remove dust from the fan?
I have a HP HDX16 and one screw is broken so it is sort of impossible to remove the dust. -

Wow, I'm clearly doing something wrong: Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-1763
Why does yours show # of cards as 0? -
Not sure why it displays zero.
Did you make sure you are in Gaming mode and or set your Windows 8 power settings to Performance. It defaults to Balanced.
It appears your vsync is on since IceStorm barely went above 60 fps. Mine did the same when i first unboxed it and all was fine after all Windows 8 updates and performed a reboot. -
