Everyone is telling this guy it's an EC issue and running every test under the sun, when I'm saying it's improper power deliver through the AC units.
I literally had this issue. Someone else in the thread and people on Reddit also had the same problem.
The part that the two AC adapters plug into, that plugs into the laptop, was faulty.
-
@HyperStryker you still around? Chime in here you had the same problem and sent your laptop in to get fixed.
-
Sorry for the late reply, things got busy in college. Yes, I did have an issue where the laptop would massively stutter when gaming (worse the more demanding the title was). It would continually drop from 144 to 10-30 FPS, making the game unplayable. I sent it back to HIDevolution to take a look at, and although the guy supposedly could not replicate the issue, they sent it to the MSI repair center in the City of Industry. A few weeks later, MSI let HID, and subsequently me, know that they had replaced the combo box that was "from a bad batch." Now, I have no stuttering issues. Before all this, I did notice that the connector (the side that connects to the laptop) would get quite warm and that there was this small impression starting to push up on the topside of it. I'm assuming that me lugging the laptop around campus and having the connector at odd angles on desks caused it to go up in resistance due to a bad connection, thus slightly melting the connector and creating a power delivery issue. I hope it doesn't happen again, and if it does, I probably will consider getting the Eurocom 780W power supply (though it is pricey) or the OEM adapter.
EDIT: To add, when the laptop was stuttering, the battery icon would flash from "Plugged In" to "On Battery" every second or so. I even took a video of it happening so HID support could see.Last edited: Sep 15, 2020 -
Thank you for all of this helpful information. In my situation, around the time when the stuttering started, the battery seemed to completely stop charging and stay locked at like 52%. Then a BIOS update allowed it to recharge, but only to 98%.

That's normal. Modern laptops prevent charging to 100% in order to not kill the battery life health quickly. It's actually a feature not a bug.Semmy likes this. -
I was watching a movie and the screen on my laptop screen just went black. Can't figure it out.
Tried a BIOS reset with the power button to no effect.
Hooked it up to my TV via HDMI and get a picture there. When I go to manage multiple displays in the Nvidia CP, only the TV shows up as an option. I also tried reinstalling the Intel IGP driver, to no success.
Any ideas before I RMA? -
Ugh I’m getting this issue now. Seems like a normal thing for these laptops. Not even a year into ownership.
I can say though I elevate the connector block to the same level so there is no off-angle stress on the laptop connector side. That piece does get noticeably hot when the laptop is under load. Makes me wish they went with a typical round swivel connector at a 90 degree angle.Semmy likes this. -

Your screen's fried. -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Try reseating the monitor connector to the laptop and clean the tip with Deoxit D5, then reassemble, before RMA'ing. And if that works, make sure there isn't a short, so it doesn't happen again -
Did this occur with the Stock MSI Power Adapter or the aftermarket Eurocom one?
If the latter, could that have caused it? -
What g sync is function on gt76 ?
Or no need on gt76 monitor?

Ar u have problem with cpu temp in gt76?

Only in some use cases.

At least on the GT76 9SG DT (my model w/ 144Hz), it does not have it. I don't think other GT76s have it either since they all have Optimus. However, you can connect an external monitor with G-Sync and disable the laptop display so you can have that functionality.
No real problems, just that the fans get kinda loud since the 9900K runs hot. OCing it to 5GHz though is a different story...
Also, I just realized that several green LEDs on my keyboard died, evidenced by the faulty keys' different color. I believe my warranty just ended as well, so that kinda sucks. Everything else has been working fine though!
-
Wow that sucks, surprising to see another issue pop up! My 144Hz screen has been going alright, though I mostly keep it off now since I have two external monitors and have the laptop sitting on a desk. Hopefully your issue gets fixed without much delay!
-
I never got an answer back on if his screen died when using the aftermarket Eurocom Power adapter, but I would be hesitant to use after market components not made by MSI for that reason.
As far as the Power Notification repeatedly bouncing from battery to AC power, I can definitely see this occurring if the Power bricks aren't sitting at the same height as the power hole (i.e. sitting on a table instead of on the floor, thus causing strain on it due to the 90-degree angle).
Speaking of power supplies, has anyone noticed their square power plug (the part that gets plugged into the laptop) get really hot ? -
It's an LCD cable issue. Has nothing to do with the power adapter.
-
Does anyone know what wire connects the internal camera to the motherboard and where it is? I think I disconnected it while I was (successfully) trying to get 15mm thick HDD inside. Now the device manager says the camera is disconnected but I'm not sure where to look for it.
Edit: I was dumb, the camera was somehow disabled by Fn + F6 combo. I set Fn to the right Win key and set F1-12 to work as function keys as their primary function instead of multimedia keys. No idea how could I press that combo by accident.Last edited: Oct 23, 2020 -
It probably gets hot because it sits next to one of the CPU vents.jpjones69 likes this.

Hi
I am looking for a user of GT76 with RTX2080Super
and kindly ask for a vbios dump for this gpu as I have ge75 with rtx2080super with 150W vbios and I am looking for 200W one.
Thankspaulatoohey likes this. -
Well my GT76 Was short lived, something died in it yesterday, Either the GPU or the GPU/IGPU Bridge or processor. here is some screen shots. Laptop wont turn on anymore, when i hit the power button the light goes from white to amber, and then after 15 to 45 sec it reboots itself and follow the same process. was trying to find a way to get to the bios on it, but since I cant see, not sure how much I can troubleshoot it.
Anybody had any of these issues ? -
Hmmm Xotic PC. Did you have them do a repaste of any sort? Liquid metal?
Semmy likes this. -
yes I paid for then to do the following upgrade
THERMAL GRIZZLY THERMAL COMPOUND CPU/GPU -
I’d have them warranty it if you can. No telling what they’d blame you for if they found you opened the case.
-
yeah I took the bottom cover out just to unplug the batteries to see if I could reset the EC controller. But Didn't do anything else. XoticPC did a couple other upgrades as well, I didn't do any.
-
That sucks, I'm sorry.
The pixilation looks like it points to a GPU or LCD mobo connection failure issue. -
yeah my gut felling is that the thermal paste failed on the GPU and it got burned out. but I really never push the GPU that hard, the only game I play is WoW classic and that is not very graphic demanding. Got the RMA so sending it 2 day shipping to MSI, hopefully they will have a diagnosis it fast.
-
MSI gave you a shipping label? Lucky you. I had to pay for shipping to them. Cost me $80-ish.
My last RMA the guy gave me 2 day shipping labels but the dude this time wouldn't.
They've had my laptop for a week now. I'm dying to get it back. -
How many times did you RMA your GT76 ? they still haven't touch my laptop today yet, I will call then next week and see if they can give me a update. Not sure if my next laptop will be MSI.... let see how they handle this, really disappointed, this is my 3rd GT laptop and the first one to die on me.
-
I feel your pain.
The GT76 is my very first MSI brand laptop (and product, for that matter), and after several RMAs as well, it will be my last. -
2nd RMA, last time was just an AC adapter issue but they wanted to see the laptop too just to be sure. Turn around was a week.
This is my 5th MSI laptop (GT70, GT72, GT73, GL62, GT76), and the only one with which I've had an issue.
After such a good history spanning nearly a decade, it's annoying but not enough for me to doubt the brand. -
Still waiting for more details from MSI, but i was told it was being repair. I will call then back next week and see if they will give me better updates. It's a really ****ty time to get a new gaming laptop right now, prices for the RTX 2070's and RTX2080 should start dropping, but nothing yet.
-
It'll only start dropping when rtx 3000 series laptops drop.
But it'll still be only on par with RTX 3000 value wise at best , cheaper but slower. -
You guys kidding? There are laptops with 2070s as low as 1400$, paired with 6-8 core CPUs, and high refresh rate displays..
-
Technically true but most of those are lower end models with compromises some people don't want to make.
I'm also not buying a 6-core Intel CPU when it's already obsoleted by the next-gen consoles. -
yeah that is too many variable 2070's too, there is the Q-Max, The Regular, the Super versions. Also MSI GT76 Is more of a desktop than a laptop, i rather have something like that. Been looking at the Alienware Area51M R2, but what i was looking at is around 3k, so not sure i want to do that right now.seanwee likes this.

This late in the game, with the amount of money the GT76/51M require be invested, I'd wait for mobile Ampere. I mean we'll see the new laptops announced at CES in January, with releases in the following months.
If you are dying for a new laptop now I understand, but if you have any kind of discrete GPU at the moment I'd wait. -
Just called MSI today, man their support for the last 3 times I called to get a update hates talking to customers it seems like, the first person wasn't too bad, but the last 2 were terrible.... I felt like I was a inconvenience to then... any who, the repairs on my laptop is done, i guess they are shipping it back in 2-3 days. guy couldn't even tell me what the repairs were, he told me the laptop will come with a repair sheet telling me everything they did on the repair. will keep you guys posted once laptop arrives. Regardless, I think I'm going to sell it once I get it back, I will be getting another laptop, I can't have this happen to me again, it really screw up my work for the last 2 weeks.
-
You caught them in between dealing with GL/GF/GS dumspster fires. Seeing as service has proved worse being in an out-of-location service area, this will be my last MSI as well (mine didn’t even make it one year before exhibiting problems). I’m looking forward to seeing the new offerings raise the bar, and choosing next year will be exciting.

Finally got a text a few minutes ago from FedEx that my laptop is scheduled to be delivered on Monday. I'm slightly annoyed because the RMA site has been saying it's been ready to ship since 11/6 but oh well.
I thought that clock fluctuation problem was your first issue. You'd returned the laptop multiple times prior? -
Found out from MSI that the RAM Failed on the laptop.... Getting new RAM install and send back to me. hope to have laptop back by friday...
-
Got my laptop back on Monday. The technician only wrote "repaired" on the details slip that came with it, what a dunce. All is well though.
Man I really missed this 240Hz display, the 60Hz on my GL62 was really rough in comparison. I realized a long time ago that a good monitor is just as important as the gaming hardware, at least to me.4W4K3 likes this. -
Yeah going back to 60hz is unthinkable for me. It just feels so laggy and looks stuttery.Kevin likes this.

Does anyone have the issue where Nahimic app says that no devices are connected and nahimic effects can't be applied? The sound itself works fine. I'm not sure when this happened, I noticed it just now (I do remember that I've changed some effect properties there a few days ago). I've updated to Win10 20H2 in hope it'll fix it, but the error is still there.

Got my laptop back, Running good again, but decided to sell it, at the end of the day I was not to happy with the Service from MSI/Xotic PC. I went ahead and got a Alienware Area 51m R2, hope to have a better experience with it. Happy Thanksgiving everyone !
-
I didn't have a issue with mine, have you try to reinstall the drivers/software ?
-
I wouldn't want to touch them. There are chances it'll break completely. So... no, I haven't tried reinstalling drivers. Reinstalling the Nahimic app doesn't change anything. I assume if I find the original driver package I can fix this but I'm not sure if I want to deal with this.
-
You probably need to update to the latest Realtek driver.
-
Huh, didn't think about this. Might worth a try.
-
I say that because I just reinstalled Windows a few days ago, and after updates, Nahimic was giving me a a notification on launch that it wouldn't work as my current Realtek driver was outdated.KerberX likes this.
