Casual gaming with the GT80?
In any case no ram has little impact on gaming performance, better to get a larger SSD or other parts.
You can always easily upgrade the ram in future if you need it but 16GB is a good amount to have.

Yeah, "casual" might not have been the best word, but more in the sense that I have three small children and can't game as much as I used to! Thanks for the reply!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That makes more sense. No need just now, and as I said you can just pop more in later or faster sticks and not impact your warranty.
-
I will use on table , I wont bear it and I think under 26inch screen is not enough for me. I do not have a change for getting desktop just now, so I will buy a monitor later. Do you think is that worth it for this mechanical keyboard and 1.1 inch large screen, less performance same price?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If it's just a table why not a desktop? Or an MSI all in one screen + system with 980M?
-
So I just got my Titan GT80 001 and I'm wondering if it is important to unplug it and run the battery down occasionally? Or is it okay to just leave it plugged in and game away? I see the message in the battery indicator saying it is plugged in and not charging, but I just wonder if it is harmful for the battery itself to never get use of it's range?
-
It's doing what it should so game away. You do not need to recalibrate or run down purposely unless you notice the calibration is off.
-
Is because I need to use it in college sometimes and I can not carry desktop to another country, when I finish my masters degree. Better performance vs larger screen and mechanic keyboard.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
For college you will want the GT72 for quieter keyboard and for it being easier to carry.
-
I have a car and I am not studying at quite places. So, Meaker do you have any other suggestions?
-
GT80 and place the rubber O-rings under the keys. Problem solved.

Proud owner of a newly minted 009. I searched the thread for expansion and plate and got no hits. I want to remove the expansion plate on top and I don't want to scratch anything. Any tips?

To remove the top pannel there are two screws on the bottom pannel that are labeled that must be removed. It will then slide to the right hand side a bit and lift off.

Excellent! Thanks very much.

Np congrats on you titian, post up some numbers in the 3dmark test and tune thread.

MSI GT80 3dMark Scores, test and tune -
Will do. With your panel removal advice, I installed 2x Transcend MTS800 512GB and added them as a 2nd raid 0. I love how straightforward this machine is. So far it's rock solid.
-
I did the exact same thing to store games!
-
Hey guys I have a question does this notebook support 2133mhz ram and can it run at 2133mhz?
-
Look @ my signature.
-
Wow! How did you manage to overclock stock modules this high? I wonder if 32Gb can reach 2000Mhz levels on this beast)
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It depends on the timings and silicon lottery.
-
And to do this I am pretty sure you must unlock the bios on the GT80 right?
-
That is correct, Meaker! But MSI is probably using regular sodimms like the rest vendors, CL11, 1.35v, 1600Mhz, and not some rare overclockable modules) Was it done through Intel XTU or Thaiphoon Burner?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Some let you change it via xtu, I have not personally looked at the unlocked options.
-
Will the BIOS overwrite the changes made in Thaiphoon?
-
Thanks for the reply guys, so if I buy the 16gb 2133 rated ddr3l kit will it work at rated speed without any moded bios, can you change xmp like on desktop in bios or do I need to unlock bios and how do I unlock bios on the gt80 titan
-
Hey all, I just purchased the GT80 009 from newegg and am glad to join your ranks. It should be here in 3 days.
As a new owner, what are some tips that I should know about these machines?
Before I start installing my games and turning it on max settings, are there things I should optimize before hand? Software to add or remove?
I've been going through this thread and saw people posting up their system scores and benchmarks. Then there was talk about heat issues and voltage throttling. Should I do anything about that?
Thanks! -
Memory overclocking is available in unlocked BIOS , voltage settings, timings etc.
-
How do you unlock bios on gt80???
-
Congrats on your titian purchase, post up some numbers in the 3dmark test and tune thread when you can to add another data point. The 4980 does run warmer but at stock clocks there are no reports of thermal throttling. One thing that several of us have done with all models is run a negative core voltage offset of around -50 to -100.

The motherboard will only read the values. It can of course change which speed the system actually runs. Think of the ram timings being a lookup table. -
Hi Owners,
I've purchased the Gt80 Titan sli 009 and it stopped suddenly after using it for four days. Now I replaced it with new one after paying the restock fees (15%) WTF. Anyway I just want to check with you guys what is the default brand of the SSD M.2? And is there anyway to find the vibrate motor for the numpad haptic feedback? -
Wow who made you pay a restock on a failure? The stock ssd are kingston and the part numbers a specific to MSI so you can't personally claim warranty or at least they wouldn't allow me too. The kingston ssd's do seem to have reported a few failures on the GT80 though.
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I believe they decided not to include the haptic feedback on the release models. It was just in there for development models before they mass produced them. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
If it's DOA, then you shouldn't be charged for restocking because you deserved a replacement.
Also, haptic was only available in the engineering sample but not in production, MSI did not include "haptic feedback" in the specification list. -
UPDATE: I'm NOT ONLY experiencing lag while playing TF2 but also while playing other online games such as CS - GO and I've tried many things people have mentioned on other forums but nothing has worked for me yet.
I've been breaking my head to figure reasons behind my network card problem. At my apartment I use the 802.11g as opposed to the 802.11n that is used by my school's wifi - which is a more recent protocol. This makes me wonder - and to an extent worry - why the Killer card would have issues with the 802.11n. I would imagine most wifi networks use this protocol.
I checked other forums and there are a TON of posts reporting issues with lag when using the Killer card for online gaming.
I've now uninstalled the Killer suite and have manually installed drivers for the Killer card (Atheros driver) - based on suggestions from many people as well as MSI itself. This hasn't fixed my problem though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What router do you use? Are other devices on it ok? Have you tried stepping it down to 54g to test?
-
Actually, my apartment wifi connection works just right - I use netgear and use 802.11g (older protocol). I just gave this example to have something to compare with. However, the wifi at school has the lag and it uses 802.11n (newer protocol). I am not sure if something that the school network does behind the scenes is causing this kind of a stuttering.
FYI - just so that you are up-to-date from my previous posts - under SAME conditions, while using a Sager NP8651 that uses an Intel® Dual Band AC 7265, there is no lag/stutter when using either the school wifi network or the one at my apartment.
Someone has reported the exact same issue while playing LoL: http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=2846899&page=106
Another example: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20140605023625AAPavWl
PS: The in-game ping times are significantly higher while using the school network compared to those while using the wifi at my apartment. The university wifi connection is far superior to the one I have at my apartment though.Last edited: Mar 24, 2015 -
Looks like you are having a regular Internet connection problem.
Use WinMTR[1] or something similar to detect what's going on between your computer and the game server.
It works like a regular "tracert" but it will keep doing it until you command to stop. Let it run for 10min at least. Better if you run it during your gaming session. When the lag starts switch to WinMTR window and check in which part of the route the problem is happening. You are looking for points of failure (hops where the lost packet counts are high or increasing).
The network card is only good between your computer and the router you are connecting to. From there up you won't have any control or way to solve lag issues by yourself. You may send the WinMTR report to the network administrator and ask for a solution.
Good luck!
NOTE: Better use version v0.92 (latest)

Network lag: Do you have the wireless card set to automatically switch between n and g? If so, the lag may be occurring while it searches for another signal to switch to.
-
Thanks Cormogram - will try and get back. How can I set the wireless card to automatically switch between g and n?

Has anyone tried Far Cry 4 and experienced issues? There is a lot of in-game flickering. Based on comments online, I found that this occurs when using NVidea GPUs in SLI. If the game is played in windowed mode, the flickering goes away. It's weird that the game hasn't fixed this.

It's related to SLI.
Are you using the latest version of Nvidia driver 347.88?Midou likes this. -
Yes, I am using 347.88. Haven't Nvidia or the game developers tried to address this? Do you know if this problem can show up in other games?

This symptom also occurs on other certain titles.Midou likes this. -
It's different with each cards software, but windows controls should suffice. Not sure what you mean. It sounds like it is already automatically switching. What you should try is manually switching it based on where you are.
-
Well, I have uninstalled the Killer software suite as it is suggested that the software can interfere with the wifi connection in the background - possibly like you say by performing certain checks intermittently etc. I would imagine that any overhead that the software brought with it should be gone now.
I did check two places for the 'manually switching' - network card properties in device manager and the wifi connection properties itself - but I could not find the option you are referring to. Can you please let me know where I can find it? Thanks! -
Anyone have an reports of using Gelid thermal maternal on the GPU's or CPU?
I play games online all the time and don't experience pausing like you described but I usually connect to a 5ghz signal 99% of the time. Anyhow maybe what you are looking for would be the "Roaming Aggressiveness" in the adapter properties?
